This week on Downstream, Ash Sarkar meets FA's director Eyal Weizman, to discuss Israel's settler colonial project, the police killing of Mark Duggan, and how the testimony of blindfolded torture victims helped construct a model of Bashar al-Assad's most notorious torture prison.

Israel will never be forgiven & nor should it be.
That's a matter of God and not of men.
@@andreaWBW Worldwide condemnation will do it.
@@michellenorris8471 Please read Jeremiah 30, 7 and 11. Israel will be restored but be punished of the Lord for their iniquities, therefore it has to go through the 7 year tribulation and after that, in the millenium it will be a blessing for the world again. And not everybody living in Israel now is a Jew according to the bible and cannot possess the promised land, which is for the millenium, not for now.
@@andreaWBWI’d like to inform you that there is no such thing as a god.
@@andreaWBWplease stop your nonsense. This whole video deals in science and truth and we’ve got you posting some rubbish from that bible thing.
Brilliant, compassionate human beings are the salvation of our wilfully ignorant World.
Priceless insight coming from this man, thank you!
FA is incredible. FA needs to be spread into more than just one research lab and continue to develop
Excellent interview with Eyal Weizman. "Hollow Land. Israel's Architecture of Occupation" (2007) is groundbreaking and a classic. So is the work of Forensic Architecture. Thank you, Ash Sarkar.
What a fantastic interview with great questions. Your interviewee's sensitivity to trauma in his vital work is moving. Thank you. Peace and dignity for Palestine.
"The establishment of Israel is based on the erasure of historical Palestine". .3:52. One of the best interviews this year. Well done.
'Erasure' of Palestinians and Palestinian landscapes and history also is one of the themes in Nurit Peled-Elhanan's 'Palestine in Israeli School Books: Ideology and Propaganda in Education' (2012).
Decades later we still see the architecture of apartheid in our cities in South Africa. It’s a visual reminder of the past and even though there are no huge apartheid walls, the spatial planning of the environment shows how the prejudice was so entrenched in every aspect of life.
Brilliant video, such a sparkling conversation. ❤
I've watched a lot of Forensic Architecture reports. These guys are the best, they're showing to the world what states don't want us to see.
Do they do much work outside of Israel?
“much work” is subjective, depended on how you define it - Mr "@@michaelw2288".
@@michaelw2288Hi Michael, based on the wiki entry 'Forensic Architecture', their work has been on (rather than 'inside' or 'outside' a particular location) the Mediterranean (migration), Gaza (e.g. use of phosphorus) , Germany (NSU killings), Venezuela, Syria (torture prison), Pakistan (US drones), Guatemala (1980s genocide).
You clearly haven't watched the interview, Mr "@@michaelw2288".
What an astounding, rewarding and informative video. However, it makes listening to the lies and fabrications of people like Tzipi Hotevely and Hen Mazzig even more unbearable.
I so enjoyed and appreciated this insightful conversation. Mr Weizman is a beautiful human being ❤
Wauw, amazing you guys had this man from Forensic Architecture on! Followed FA since that first bomb on a hospital that Israel tried to blame on Islamic jihad. I was very impressed with how FA demonstrated this was a lie. Great insights!
The claim was that the hospital was levelled and hundreds were killed, but when morning came the hospital was still standing and there was a small crater in the parking lot. Forensic Architecture disputed the evidence of the video that showed a misfire/interception, but didn't address the core of the story, which was completely different to what both sides claimed in the immediate aftermath of the explosion. If the extent of their OSINT expertise is to simply muddy the waters, I don't see what the point is of this organisation
@TheAlbinoskunk Talk about muddying the waters, the things you say aren't true and make no sense. Bad Hasbara.
@TheAlbinoskunk, you do realize that this is one is one of the many well-known pathetic attempts of isnotreal to escape persecution ?
Yeah new york city built on indigenous land
Give Mexico city back to the aztecs!
Ash this was absolutely fascinating. Thank you so much for bringing us this interview.
We're all fed up with government propaganda.
It is actually business media propaganda. Facing the wrong way.
@@JohnAllenRoyceit's both
Yes, we are all fed up, but not fed up enough to do something about.
Mind Begs the Question:
- If Politicians/Govts narrative
- Must not be Challenged
- Must conform to without Question
- Democratic or Fascist?
What a brilliant and humane discussion. Kudos for this.
I had never heard of Forensic Architecture before this, and am now looking at things on their website; fascinating stuff, and a wonderful use of modern technology to disprove the lies of authorities.
I was dreading watching this, but he is so gentle and delicate discussing these topics. Absolutely fascinating.
That was absolutely fascinating. An outstanding interview of a gentle, compassionate man.
Not just hugely informative, but very moving and inspiring
A great way of unfolding the case of occupation ❤️❤️
Hi Ash. Great conversation
Thank you.
Fantastic interview. Thank you
This is one of the most fascinating interviews I've seen in a while. I hadn't heard of FA before but will definitely be looking into their work.
One of the best downstreams

Always a pleasure to listen to this man and learn things I'd never considered before
Great interview NM
A brilliant topic, guest and interview. Thank you
Eyal Weizeman’s answer to Ash Sakar’s final question brought tears to my eyes.
Great talk Ash ,more like this please .
I’m looking forward to this one 👊🏿
Thank you for the interview and much respect to the courageous and compassionate people able to see the horror straight
This interview should be a require study in every high school. It is so important and compelling for humanity, especially in this most demoralising time. Thank you so much Ash and Professor Weizman.
Excellent Idea!!!! 👍👍👍
This is an amazing interview. Thank you!
It's incredible to listen to this guy
great conversation
Wow, this is a brilliant conversation. Thanks Eyal and Ash.
Sad talk. The words are distraught from the heart of your guest ! Israel have over stepped the mark of humanity !
"A lot of what we do is developing a very close attention to things...respecting the world for what it is, and respecting the fact that the art of seeing is hard, it`s not obvious, you need to work hard to see what you see and you need to work hard to make public what is already public and that is a principle of care, of attention of time and spending time with the people that actually ask you for help about it"
Truly fascinating. Thank you for presenting this information. Coming from a history, political science/justice, art & anthropology background/perspective so much of what was discussed is quite familiar. However, the added depth & contextual nature this discipline brings makes it all uniquely relevant.
Thanks. Fascinating. Useful. Best to you in your important work.
This is a beautiful interview.
Ash is such a good interviewer has such an incredible skill in being able to personally relate to Eyal using analogous situations from her own experience enhancing the audience understanding without taking away from the narrative.
thank you Novara Media
Wonderful and interesting interview as always, Ash. You ask such brilliant questions.
Great interview and highly informative... I recommend listening from start to finish
Such an eloquent guest, very nice and informative interview. I learned something new today :)
But his views represent a tiny, extreme view of the Israeli radical Left.
I need to start downloading these for when they randomly get taken down or turn privated.
excellent interview and insightful questions
The very part of his response to Ash’s question also touches on some of the gripes people have with 15 minute cities
just mind blowing - thank you for introducing me to the concept of forensic architecture. The sensitivity, compassion and integrity of Eyal is heart warming and gives me hope for a better world for all
This is brilliant interview. Thank you both. Im essentially commenting to boost.
Simply fantastic! Incredibly informative and seriously well presented by Ash. What a sensitive and brilliant man!! I am deeply grateful that people like him have the skills and strength to carry out such important work. As another commentor said, this sort of subject would be of great interest and use in highschools and help people to develop sensitivity and awareness of their environment. Many thanks!!!
Brilliant choice of topic/interviewee. Fabulous. Thank you!
Well done Ash
Excellent interview. Thank you both ❤
This is an incredibly fascinating interview!
The collateral is the target. Exactly
What an excellent guest and interview. Excellent and heartbreaking at the same time due to the details of the subject matter.
Excellent interview.
Novara will you teach me about the word Federation and why you dont like it? Thanks for the fearless coverage
They do not like it at all if you capitalize a J and then write ewish followed by Federation for sure. Any observer should think hard about how difficult it is to write comments saying this
Amazing interview, so informative and enlightening.
As a progressive leftist Chinese, I am so excited to hear from a fellow leftist Eyal!!!!
Fabulous interview. Forensic Architecture had an exhibition in Manchester's Whitworth gallery a few years back exposing Israel's use of white phosporus in Palestine. Israeli lawyers got Manchester uni to close the exhibition and fire Alistair Hudson one of the most important gallery directors in the UK
Mr Weizman is amazing.
Novara another fantastic interview, it was like being back in a lecture hall, as a student.
So good Eyal, I have his book in my shelf. Brilliant Ash that you bring great people to your program, thank you!
Enlightening discussion.
Ash is a great journalist
Superb Questions, abd Brilliant, articulate replies with indepth analysis! Kudos to both !
Thanks.
Absolutely fascinating
Kenya, Rhodesia, Zimbabwe, etc.
Intellectually stimulating discussion.
This was fascinating
What a great interview, Ash. 👏
what a masterclass.
Thank you
Fascinating interview
excellent reporting!!
Amazing, revelatory interview. Where else can one find this vital information?
smart show
Extrapolating to the despoilation of Cape Town under Apartheid and the subsequent barbarism of untrammelled Capitalism. An enlightening interview
Fascinating discussion
Super interesting! Congrats Novara Media.
TRUE PREACH
Wonderful Guy! Bless you!
So interesting. Eyal Weizman might be interested in 'Blank: Architecture, Apartheid and After', by Hilton Judin & Ivan Vladislavic if he doesn't already know the book.
Thanks!
Another educational masterpiece from Novara.
The silver lining in this on going genocide is that we are getting of aware of not length and depth of attrocities are coming to light but also that they are being documented in various ways , thank u novara media for introducing foresenic architecture and their work.
Brilliant.
Loved this
