I'm 73 an certainly love the soulful Van the best. Thank God for the Spirit that dwells within him.
He's singing with the harmonica still in this mouth sometimes when he get deep in the zone.

Agreed. As much as I enjoy those early hits, it’s his more introspective and spiritual works, that draw me back, time and again. He has so much more to offer, than the same handful of hits that I see over and over, on the reaction channels.
Yes most of those were when he was under contract and had to record what they wanted . the industry owned all rights to them and some still do like Warner Brothers..He brings that up a lot in live concerts when he sings "Saint Domonic's Preview" ..most recently Vegas and Hollywood bowl 2019 and 2021 in his 1st live streaming concert couple months ago

You would really love some of his earlier stream of consciousness stuff, Independence Day, Listen to the Lion, In the Garden...And that noise you hear (that thing in his mouth) is him singing through a harmonica.

I’ve always felt that Van embodies blue eyed soul more so than any of his contemporaries. It’s really cool to witness someone who appreciates African American music like yourself listen to him.

His music is meant to only listen to. Never try to interpret or dissect it. Just grow quiet inside and feel it wash over you. Then you will understand.
van will sing or hum the notes he is playing on whatever instrument usually harmonica or guitar! so if it sounds like he is mumbling he is singing with a harmonica in his mouth.
