Thanks for the wonderful review! I ordered this exact bike a month ago when your first initial review was posted. Took awhile, but the company will finally be shipping the bike to me this week, so it is great to see your follow up review after testing it out for a month. Looks like it will be fun - and thanks for the tips on the rear suspension tokens! Cheers!

I just bought this exact bike in an XL. I can't wait to ride it once the season is here in the Northeastern USA again. You're videos are a step above the rest with their quality.

I'm an older guy, getting back into MTB, and have been riding a Specialized Rockhopper HT for over a year now -- just to get my skills in place. I've progressed rapidly riding curvy trails, steep descents, step ups/downs, and comfortably jumping features. Now, I'm ready for a full squish. But, the Stumpjumper seems a bit stodgy for me now (and pricey). What do you think about a bike like this (probably Carbon 1) for someone like me ready for greater fun and to take it to the next MTB skills level (i.e., faster trails, longer rides, bigger/technical features, etc.)? Thanks.

Hi there! Pretty nice review! Thanks for sharing. Have you tried the Stereo 120 HPC TM from Cube? Im considering it.. and really in paradox weather I take it over the rift zone c1

Thanks Waleed. I haven't ridden the latest version of the Cube, but I did review it in 2017 and was highly impressed. Not sure it helps but here's that review www.pinkbike.com/news/cube-stereo-140-c68-slt-29-review.html

Really enjoyed this review! Love all the detail. I have the Hawk Hill 3 and I noticed the same thing with the Float DPS on it - it simply bottoms out too easily. I've ordered a spacer set, though, so I'm excited to try them out once I get them. I'm surprised Marin didn't seem to find it an issue when they designed it, but it's an easily fixable problem at least.

Thanks great to hear you enjoyed it! I enjoyed make it! I think you'll find a bike improvement with the spacer in the shock

I have this bike and experienced a few issues.
1 - paint chipping near the rear left upper pivot on the swing arm. Marin has agreed to warranty the swing arm.
    2 - dry derailleur clutch
3 - cables came too short.
4 - multiple bolts came loose.
With that said, I love the way the bike rides I just think I was subject to early production issues and being an early adopter. I would love to see Marin continue down this road with this bike and produce more like it

Really interesting feedback thanks for sharing. Hoping, like you say, it was an early production issue. I didn’t get those problems with mine, but you’ve probably ridden yours a lot more than I did. Agree with you on loving the way it rides, it’s a platform I think Marin could definitely expand and build on

    • @davidarthur
      @davidarthur  Před 4 lety +1

Good question, but sadly I haven't ridden the 120 yet. From what I've read, I think they'll be quite similar when it comes to handling and performance

Definitely experienced the weird bite thing myself. Took a demo trance 29 2020 bike to BPW otger day, was fitted with slx groupset incl the 4pot brakes. They were basically rubbish, very inconsistent, like the pistons were sticking and the internal valving wasnt opening and closing correctly. I also had the drivetrain go completely out of adjustment after about 5 runs.

Interesting feedback thanks for sharing. It is an odd one and I'm not sure what is causing it. Mine seemed to get better after a while, or maybe I just got used to it?
