    The Twilight Zone had some of the best writing and stories for a TV show of its era that many have tried to replicate with few finding success. This show was great.

    Happy to see someone else is a fan of the 80s series. Doesn’t get a lot of love but I think it was fun with a wide variety of stories.

      Agreed. It doesn't reach the level of the original Twilight Zone (that bar is set so high, I don't think anything on television has since!) but in its own right, it was a fantastic and imaginative show. Episodes that played on the cold war era and fear of nuclear war, such as "A Little Peace and Quiet" or "Shelter Skelter" still haunt me decades after seeing them. Or episodes like "To See the Invisible Man" had a lot to say. Even fun episodes like "Convict's Piano" were great fantasy pieces.

    My take on the 4 iteration of the Twilight Zone:
    The original (1959) series was a literal masterpiece of television. Everything about it is just incredibly masterful, from the writing, the imaginative ideas, the music, narration, acting, the vibe of Rod Serling, nothing to this day has been quite as ground breaking. A literal classic.
    The first reboot (1985) series while not reaching the same level as the original (though that's a very high bar to reach!), in its own right was a fantastic, creative and fun series. While a bit of a mixed bag in terms of writing/story quality, it produced some very haunting, eerie and thoughtful pieces with interesting commentary. Vastly underrated, there are several gems in here. Worth a watch.
    The second reboot (2002) unfortunately is a mediocre show, and just pales in comparison to the two prior series that came before it. Admittedly I haven't seen every episode, but saw enough to see it was poor and lackluster. At best an episode might be watchable, and maybe there's a few good ones in there somewhere that I've missed, but most are forgettable. And it had the audacity to do a sequel to "It's a Good Life" that undid the creepy and haunting ending to that original classic! Enough said.
    The third reboot (2019) is complete and utter *garbage*. No, I'm not talking weak writing or unimaginative writing, it was a abysmal joke and should never have been green lit. It is infected with woke nonsense, trying to use its stories as a platform to push "the message", and lacks even the slightest ounce of creativity. Don't even bother watching it. Shame on CBS for allowing these so-called writers to soil Rod Serling's name and classic television show.

    To all the would-be writers out there, if you want to be a TV/Movie writer watch the original Twilight Zone, but most important listen to and watch the interviews stuff with Rod Serling, and learn.

    • @Apple2gs
      @Apple2gs Před 7 měsíci +1

      The CBS repackaged verison is awful. Not only are many discs stacked (requiring you to remove several to get to a specific disc/episode), but they easily fall out in shipping and get scratched up. There's also NO episode booklet, or even a guide printed on the inside cover, like what was done for Star Trek TOS and TNG. Had to print my own custom episode guide.

    Didn't you feel that the quality on the 90's Twilight Zone dvd was lacking? It looks like it was transferred from an 80's broadcast. It certainly looks no better than VHS quality. I just got it and I was a bit shocked.

    • @justinturley7071
      @justinturley7071 Před rokem +1

      It was filmed on 35mm film, but it was converted to Tape and all the special effects and narration were recorded on the Tape. But the film stock was destroyed years ago, so the tapes were the only thing available for the set. A crew member talked about that set, the show was lucky to get a dvd release or the tapes would’ve eroded. So, while it’s sad that the film stock of the series was destroyed, at least it’s got a dvd release. Be happy for that.

    • @thatwasprettyneat
      @thatwasprettyneat Před rokem

      @@justinturley7071 Thanks for the explanation. I didn't know that

    • @Apple2gs
      @Apple2gs Před 7 měsíci

      @@justinturley7071 - Were the 35mm film negatives just lost, or actually destroyed? That's sad to hear, but at least the show has survived in a watchable form (as good as when we saw them on broadcast TV). The problem is even if the film negatives existed, they'd have to redo all the special effects from scratch, much like what was done for Star Trek: The Next Generation Blu-ray. It's a time consuming and extremely expensive process, so much so that even Deep Space Nine that was widely popular back in the day, is still stuck on DVD.
      I can't imagine Twilight Zone (1985), as much as I love it to death, is still considered an obscure and mostly forgotten television show. Not likely they'd invest in it, so with the lack of film prints or a recoup of costs for redoing the special effects, I think the DVD is the best we'll ever get.

    Okay, hopefully not a stupid question but how do I get the discs out? I just received this in the mail and I am scared of snapping the discs.
    Regardless though, awesome series! :D

    • @zaranyzerak
      @zaranyzerak  Před 23 dny

      Very, very carefully! But seriously, I've found with those super tight hubs, it helps to just gently work the disc out by pressing down on the hub and gently working the disc back and forth until it come off the hub. Put it back on and take it off a couple times and that should loosen the hub enough so oy can get the discs out easily going forward. I remember the Shout Factory G.I. Joe set was like that. I spent a few minutes gently working each disc out, then popping it back in, and repeating until it was still snug, but not STUCK in them lol.

  • @SFMarine0311
    @SFMarine0311 Před 11 měsíci +2

    I have this same set. Is there a secret to removing them from their hub? I feel like I’m going to snap the disc(s) while trying to remove them. Some do eventually come out but this is a poor design.

    • @zaranyzerak
      @zaranyzerak  Před 11 měsíci

      I find with those kinds of stubborn hubs, the only real "trick" to them is to take the discs out carefully, then put them back and take them out a few times and that seems to loosen the hub enough that it isn't such a chore from then on. No idea why they made them so dang tight.

    • @SFMarine0311
      @SFMarine0311 Před 11 měsíci

      @@zaranyzerak I’m going to try using pliers to squeeze the hubs which will hopefully allow me to remove the disc.

    • @Apple2gs
      @Apple2gs Před 7 měsíci

      I've have a method. First off, NEVER force a disc, if there's resistance, don't try bending it or you risk damage. Do this: Use two fingers, with your thumb on the spindle and first finger (pointing finger) on the edge of the disc--preferably where there's open space for your finger, no plastic edge. Now, slowly and gently pull the edge of the disc upwards with your finger, it SHOULD pop off the edge of the spindal *just* as you feel the tiniest bit of resistance, then you can lift it out. If you feel too much resistance, you're doing it wrong. It may take some practice, don't rush. Once you get the hang of it, it's easy.
      That said though, I hate these cases! CBS used them for Star Trek (TOS and TNG) and Twilight Zone (original and 80's) and they just suck. The Twilight Zone Blu-ray seems to be the worst, and for the DVD version, I hate how you have to remove several discs to get to specific discs/episodes.

  • @AlSumait

    Easily my favorite show of all time! I actually have the 60th anniversary limited edition UK Blu Ray set that includes a bonus DVD disc exclusive to that particular set. Along with two twilight zone comics, an episode guide, a companion guide, two post cards and a trivia booklet. I know, it’s a loaded set and well worth owning! 🤣 The packaging is better in my opinion compared to this one, which holds the discs in a foldout tray with disc holders. I own the Star Trek original series on Blu Ray that came with the 50th anniversary set, and it had the same packaging as this set. It’s not the worst packaging in my opinion, but I do get worried when I pull the discs out since they’re stuck in there really tight.

    Great vid as usual - thorough and informative. I have the original series re-release as you do but I gotta say that case is probably the WORST case I've ever owned. I went through THREE (yes, THREE) copies of this set as I kept cracking the discs trying to get them out of the case tray! I ended up buying a separate CD/DVD case for the set. Horrible packaging.
