First time I faced the Object 279, I was playing the Maus. Was first to shoot, hit the side of his turret with the highest penning shell the Maus has, only to see it not doing anything at all, then getting killed in one shot through the thickest part of my armor, before he drove away at ludicrous speeds.
Shoot the barrel or the drivers port, and angle your turret
The side of the hull where the turret ring is found it’s round to accodate the turret as it’s wider than the hull shoot right there with a 120mm minimum and you will kill it next time.
I was in my Object 279 and hit a Maus on the front armour just a little while ago, it bounced, I was unable to kill it until he turned his side armour to me. As for speed, it is good, but you have four tracks that can be broken and need to be fixed (happens alot) also the darts will always mess you up and ATGMs will only fail on the sides, and only some times. Overall, its a fast tank with an amazing gun, but there are many things that can kill it, its just the only thing that can't is old fashioned ammo, even then there are places you can hit.

Gonna be real, the fact this is 8.7 while the M48A2 G is 8.3 is proof something is wrong.
Yea, so you get better armour, STAB, a gun with more penetration alongside consistent ability to instantly kill, and overall power ratio is negligibly lower, but has access to higher frontal and reverse speeds for only .3 of a BR increase.
Should be 9.0 absolute minimum if the M48 is where 8.3 tanks sit.
Not only did you survive being point blank bombed, you also repaired all 4 tracks, the transmission and the barrel in 11 seconds

It actually has a single prototype and it's in working conditions, and it really isn't meant to survive nukes, just to operate and assault after one
@@krinnge It might have a working prototype, but it wasn't really tested. If it was, we do not have physical and credible evidence to prove it's actual capabilities.
Even if it was meant to operate after a nuke, many documents we do have about it state that it is meant to withstand a nuclear blast. That of which is unproven as of the current moment. Unless you wanna go steal it from the place it is stored and stumble upon a thermonuclear bomb to test it.

Video 2: please play the Breda 501. It can pen anything in its br frontally and has a lot of post pen damage. It’s also fast and surprisingly survivable.

Fun fact: The RCV can kill this thing quite easily. The 25mm darts are small enough to go right through the turret ring.
Even funner fact: Gepard, ZA-35 and other spaa with the 35mm gun, can kill the object 279 pretty easily. The 35mm APHE have enough pen to prenetrate its cupola and blow up the entire turret crew.
RCV Superiority, I bet the vehicle could be at 9.7 and still does well.

As someone who plays this thing pretty much daily it’s blatantly op at 8.7 if you play carefully enough you’ll pretty much be guaranteed like 8 kills
Especially since EVERY GAME I PLAY AT 8.0 gets a full uptier. I have always seen 1 maybe 2 a match. It's insane hoe often 8.0 gets up. I love going against fully stabilized and Laser Range finders in T54,s. I just feel like I'm always at a significant disadvantage it's rough

Watching CAS suffer not doing anything even with direct bomb hits makes me want to play this thing, just for that not for any other reason. They deserve it.

The Object 279 is not a tech tree vehicle. You can't obtain it except for paying an obscene amount on the gaijin shop. The Maus can be researched once a year. Maus is infinitely easier to obtain than Object 279.

Hey Spook, you should play the Semovente 75/46 M43. It's a deeply overshadowed italian tank destroyer which can deliver an heavy punch but it's deeply ignored the potential it has. I am not gonna surrender in proposing this.

Just from watching 279 videos it looks like the most op thing about it is the aphe performing like long rod apfsdsagainst angles. Going through the t72 side like that is something I only see with darts.
I’m grinding through 8.7 USSR currently, and you’d think this thing was a tech tree vehicle with how much it’s being played right now.
This thing is absolutely nuts and a nightmare to fight.
Also (day 19 asking) You should try the Japanese STA1/2/3/Type 61 (they're all kinda the same), decent mobility, good gun and great sight magnification makes them pretty fun to play.
ST-A3 is the best though, that auto loader makes all kinds of difference, and it's .50 has the best vertical firing arc. Type 61's smoke launchers are nice too though but a lot more situational then an auto loader. I'm not a big fan of the ST-A1 and 2, they're just so slow for having an okay gun and terrible armour.

@@commandoepsilon4664 ST-A1 and 2 have much better reverse speed tho. I was so sad when I reached STA-3, STB1 and type 64 only to realize they didn't have that reverse speed.
@@DarkenedSpell I've honestly never noticed a difference. Though I main Britain and only started in Japan after finishing the British tree, so maybe it's just compared to British tanks the Type 64 and ST-A3 have good reverse so I never thought about it.

I feel like the 279 is almost back at the state where it was added (which was a ridiculous 8.3), because I had no lineup at the time for the soviet tree, but I only very rarely died. I remember tanking literally all the AS-20 Nords of a G.91, with the dude in the chat saying like "how the fuck can that shitty tank survive all my AGM, fuck off". T'was great. Nothing could really kill it at 8.3. Before the BR changes it was still great, but you had to play more carefully, now it's back at just press W and left click
279 was way more broken when it first came out. A decent APFSDS shell can pen the hull pretty easily today but still a bit trolly. Back then, they bounced basically everywhere other than the small weak spot near the driver's port. I remembered trying to kill this sht with a Rooikat 105 or MBT-70 and the only places I was able to pen was the small area around the driver's port frontally.
This is my 73rd attempt at asking spookston to play the t32e1. I dropped two 1k kg bombs on this thing directly and it somehow survived I had low ping and 0 packet loss.

The dollar store 279 the T10M did not move up in BR and is really fun, The IS2(1944) is also one of the best tanks of its BR now that it doesnt have to fight leopards, marders and M48s anymore.
Yeah the IS-2 1944 is now everything I hoped it would be when I originally got it. Too bad there isn't a medium tank at 6.3 to round out the lineup.

This is the perfect vehicle for Spookston's CAS curse because it's inmune to bombs.

I had this idea. What if they made crew replacement time shorter for tanks that are less cramped and easy to get out of. Because sometimes it doesn't make sense how long it takes for some vehicles. And for real cramped tanks it could be longer or as it is now

Funny that my experience in the 279 is running into a ton of people who know exactly where to shoot, getting penned by SPAA and about five of these 3:40 per game.
Edit: oh and TAM2 IPs that go through the armor like it's butter, so many TAM 2 IPs.

@@zimmergolem Considering I never see a single competent enemy in any of Spookston's videos, but there is usually a couple in every one of my games that always knows where to shoot. Yeah, you're probably right. Maybe I should play other servers.
Same happens with me, trying to play with It more carefully gives me better results.
TAM is one of the best Obj. 279 counters, It can lolpen your front hull and most of the time your 130mm shell fails to fuse and spall less than a 76mm apds, or the engine eats all the dmg.

The only time I don't die to a hull-shot is when they shoot head on and it kills my driver and engine, or if I'm low on ammo. 90% of the shots to my hull usually ammo rack. And I never have a problem ammo-racking then when I face them. As for shots through the engine, it also has a transmission to go through so yeah it's gonna eat rounds. If you aim high it will pass over the engine and kill though.

(Attempt #22) I am once again requesting that you play the Italian 90/53 M41. It is killer in CQC and can pen tanks most others can't with its shell (perfect for bullying KV-1s). It is surprisingly survivable if you don't get strafed and is a good TD... when you aren't reloading

You should play the Leo 1 now it got uptiered. It’s not exactly suffering because you can still rush points to break even, or you can play it pretty well as a light. But it’s constantly uptiered to fight 9.0 Russia and China, when it’s unstabilised with the unreliable HEATFS at best.
thats literally every early cold war tank though, T-54s are also like this except they dont even have any good mobility like the Leo 1

@@svx4477 I’m not sure about the other trees, but the T-54 and all is variants has APHE and is stabilized, so even if it finds a Leo or anything else sitting in a spot, it has the same chances of hitting it as the Leo does. And can do more damage. USSR also has the severely under tiered 906 which while can be 50 cal’ed, is stabilized with a very fast reload and is very fast with APHE. The BMP-1 and 2’s are also pretty good, not stabilized but can fire two shots in rapid succession. Or with the BMP-2, can fire very very fast. The ZSU-57-2 in China and USSR is never not good and can frontally pen probably any German rank 5 tank except maybe the M48 and Jagdtiger.
Germany at Rank V certainly isn’t bad, it has 1 very overpowered tank, the Rakaten. A few good tanks like the DF105 and BMP-1 and maybe 1A4. And a few passable tanks like the Leopard and Marders. The problem is that these fight the aforementioned Soviet tanks constantly, none of the German tanks with high calibers are stabilized or get Laser Rangefinders, whilst the USSR tanks are stabilized with usually better stats in everything but speed in some cases, and that’s if you’re lucky enough to get a fight that’s actually at 8.0. Usually it’s at 9.0 where the Soviet tanks have even scarier armour. HEATFS is okay at penetrating this armor but it’s damage usually does Jack shit. Whereas USSR has APHE. It’s more of an issue with the fact that decompressing 6.0 has compressed 8.0 than it is Russian bias (which yes, does exist even if it’s not intentional)
@@valentine7593I think you mean the type-59 because the t-54 and all of it's variants don't have a stabilizer and the bad gun handling that would make a battleship blush would not be a good tank especially when the m-48a2 on the ger tech tree was at 7.0 with heat (although now fixed). But still the t-54's with the exception of the type-59 aren't that great
