    This is the fault of the boat towing the skier, as an avid water skier myself, the idea of towing two people and one falling then continuing on leaving the fallen skier alone in the water is unthinkable. A " Skier In The Water" Flag should have gone up immediately and the boat should have returned to pick her up. To blame the boat that struck her solely, is crazy. There is heavy boat traffic in that area and the tow-boat should have taken steps to protect their skiers.

      One, we haven't been notified as to how experienced the yacht captain was and how familiar he/she was how dangerous the area is.
      Two, I haven't read/heard anything on whether a "Skier in the Water" was or was not deployed. The yacht seems to have been privately owned instead of a charter and wasn't designed with waterskiing in mind so its debatable as to what equipment (such as flags) it had onboard. As far as I can tell the yacht was simply chosen because of how large a group was going to be onboard.
      Three, it appears that the yacht DID immediately turn around (well as fast as a yacht its size could turn around) to pick up the girls and was in the process of picking up the other girl when Ella was hit.

      Yep, as a boat owner and my responsibility is on my skiers If you go down , put a ski in the air and it’s my job to protest them and pick them up! Who was the spotter….that’s their job too! I agree but at some point, the parents should have asked questions of the tow boat company about their place of operations, time of day, etc. I boated out in Biscayne Bay 40 years, some traffic, but I can't imagine what is like now. Sometimes you have to be responsible for your own actions. Even as a ten-year-old I wouldn't think about playing on the highway .......... But it is sad.

    I did a lot of water skiing in my teens and 20s and was always concerned about being run over by other boaters if I fell. As soon as I fell I would take off a ski and hold it up out of the water like a pillar. On several occasions, I had to wave it to make sure nearby boaters would see me.

  • @brianabston275
    @brianabston275 Před 27 dny +88

    This whole event is tragic but the captain on the boat pulling the kids is to blame. You don’t pull people with a boat near a busy channel let alone dual and with the wrong type of boat, shocking the captain didn’t simply go to a less traveled and more safe to ski place on the bay. This old man with four outboards in a 44’ boat hauling azzz wouldn’t know he hit someone. With two kids down in the water it’s possible he only saw on and was focused on that one and had zero idea he hit the second one. Again they shouldn’t have been there in the water in the first place.

    The man who owns the home where investigators found a boat that they suspect struck and killed a 15-year-old Ransom Everglades student was behind the wheel at the time of the crash, according to a report released Wednesday by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Carlos Guillermo Alonso, 78, owns the Coral Gables home where the boat was docked behind when FWC agents seized the boat Tuesday afternoon. He was the only occupant in the boat at the time of the hit-and-run crash, the report said. (Miami Herald) The report, released Wednesday, identified the operator as Carlos Guillermo Alonso, 78, of Coral Gables. The report states that Adler had been wakeboarding with someone else who was further away and both “fell off at different times/locations and both were in the water simultaneously.” Officials said they continue to investigate and have not announced whether Alonso will be charged; it’s not clear whether authorities have determined if he was even aware of the fatal crash.(Channel 10 News)

    The boat towing the two teens has the sole responsibility of their safety. Needed a flag person that is right next to the captain to alert them. Second the two teens have to have a plan for when one falls, such as the second person drops off as quick as possible to the first so the boat can quickly spin around and get back around the first that fell to black them from any other traffic. Also the captain towing the people needs to be aware of where traffic is around them and the direction of travel of that traffic and to keep their wakeboarders in a safe lane in case of a fall. As far as the people that fall in a busy place like that girl did, quickly look around for other boats and if any seem to be closing on you, get that board off your feet and into the air as high as possible and wave it back and forth. The ocean in windy choppy conditions with sun glare can make it nearly impossible to see anyone bobbing in the swell.

      @hellomiamii no, I said the person driving the boat with the teenagers has some responsibility in this. Was it an adult and parent driving that boat? Are far as her parents; how often do parents not know exactly what is transpiring where their teenagers are at? We have to also think about whether the boat driver that hit her? Did he know? Was he drinking? Was he going too fast in that area of water? We do not have the proper certifications/license requirements here. We desperately need them. As a boating capital? There should be required licenses, courses, fees, classes, etc. And definitely more L.E. on the water to monitor this. Common sense and knowledge is unfortunately limited today.

    1:58 as a minnesotan and been aqua sporting of all kinds since i was old enough to hold a fishing pole and wear a life jacket and been tubing behind a 1970 200HP tri hull glastron that holds 8 people easily......who ever is being consulted on the phone doesn't have a clue. wake boarding and knee boarding are not water skiing. water skiis are 1/8th the size of a wake board and knee board where speed is the key to staying on top of the water. twin engines or 200hp minimum single engine for slalom water skiing for persons over 180#'s
    15 year old girl at about 105# at most? 125HP would easily work for single skii waterskiing....WHICH SHE WAS NOT DOING!@#&^*
    WAKE BOARDING IS JUST THAT RIDING THE BOATS WAKE, YOU KNOW THE WAVES THE BOAT MAKES AS IT PASSES THRU THE WATER, THAT IS THE FUNNEST PART CROSSING AND RIDING ON TOP AND GOING OVER OR JUMPING THE WAVE WAKE! the bigger the wave the greater the adrenaline fun! just like a roller coaster people, the higher, the more and greater curves and twists and spins/corkscrew... the better it is! ;)

      @@Failure_Is_An_Option I have to agree with you on that being that she was down in the water.
      When I first heard the news I wrongly assumed that a standing skier was struck and someone wasn't paying attention to where they were heading.
      After hearing more of the facts it's very possible that this is just a tragic accident.
      I also understand more about why the towwer of Ella wasn't using his boat to protect them in the water. That size boat isn't easy to maneuver around quickly enough and shouldn't have been pulling anyone in that busy of an area and especially in choppy water with children.
      Her only hope would have been to dove down in the water deep enough to maximize any serious damage to her and her life jacket hindered her from being able to do that. This is tragic and I can't help for feeling what she must have been going through in her last moments.
