- Workaround fix solution for the 2019-2020 Honda Pilot and Passport speaker crackling and popping. Warranty extension: MOST bus network connectors. #crackling #honda #popping #stone #pilot As of 7/19/2021 Honda does not have the part to fix the issue. They are asking me to call back every 2 weeks.
Thank you very much, Michael, for this extremely helpful post. We are having the same issue on a 2020 EX - L Pilot. This workaround, at least prevents it from being a safety issue, since the static can be quite distracting when it gets loud. We have been an all-Honda family since the 90s, but will never buy another one because of the way they have “handled” this issue. Ridiculous.
I agree; the Honda’s are a value for the buc, but this is ridiculous. I’m trying to convince my wife to sell it & purchase another brand.

SOLUTION: I had very loud popping/crackling sounds coming from the speakers whether they were on or off. It sounded like someone throwing gravel at the windshield. After doing some research I discovered the likely cause was broken electrical connectors in the wire harness that would intermittently come loose causing voltage spikes. My 2020 Pilot Black Edition has two wire harnesses (the latter for the back seat Blu-Ray player). Replacing both wire harnesses under warranty at a Honda dealership completely solved the problem for over a year now. My Honda dealer said he has seen hundreds of cases of this problem all fixed by replacing the wire harnesses. Also kinked fiber optic cables in the "MOST bus network" can create similar issues and is related. Honda extended their warranties and it should cover 2018~2020 Pilots, Passports, and Odysseys. Good luck!
Thank you
Sadly Conicelli Honda replaced it once for my sister after numerous times into the dealership. I assume it was not done correctly as the issue persists. Honda will not repair it again despite reporting this issue under warranty at 1500 miles. I've owned Hondas for over 20 years and will not buy another one unless they right this wrong. I will not chance my next Honda having this issue for over 2 years now. It is absurd how they are handing it.
Can we not sueing the Honda corporation and the dealership? Am lost, not getting anything done
Thank you; I agree that it’s a work around & doesn’t solve the problem. HOWEVER, we paid almost $50,000 for a product that has a problem that Honda can’t seem to fix.
This exactly how I feel, I’m paying for a horrible experience and yes almost dished out 45,000 for mine. I’m so disappointed and thinking about never purchasing another one and trading this thing in.
4/2/22 -Update: Honda kept my car for about 2 weeks in March 2022, & replaced a control device for the infotainment system & checked all the wires & wire connectors
@@markafletcher2042 did it resolve the issue? Mind sharing what they stated n the repair receipt?
My issue is just starting, light crackling just with the radio, your tip eliminated the problem, Im worry know reading the comments it may get worse. But for know it worked thanks!!
Between my family and friend we are 6 Honda pilots, we all have this crackling sounds and Honda does not have a fix, I think Honda just followed this video and just lowers the system sounds LOL, very sad to spend this much on a suv and having this issue, sometimes it gets so bad I feel like just jumping out of the window .
I just purchased a Honda Pilot from a family member and drove it home for four hrs and this Static sound is really pissing me off!!!
I have a 2021 pilot with this issue for a few months, waiting for the dealership to “test” it and hopefully get it fixed. I read online that the noise would come back after a year even after replacing the wirings. Its a design flaw, will sell mine before warranty expires.
I’m doing the same.
Even more fun that a version of this is happening on my 2022 Passport. Since '22 isn't mentioned on any of the service bulletins it's difficult to get the dealer to do much since unfortunately mine isn't consistent enough to get it to happen for them. But after reading a forum post, I smacked on the dash above the infotainment system and instantly the static stopped. It stayed gone for 2 full days whereas before I couldn't even drive 3 minutes before it would start happening.. Even when coming back it's a significantly software quieter static and less annoying.. almost like the hit dispersed the static into little bits though that makes no logical sense.
The downside is that it's even more impossible now to get the problem fixed since it's so much less prevalent. But I can happily get by with a whack on the dash every couple of days if that keeps doing the trick since it's a lease. I assume given the location and behavior from hitting it, my problem is likely with the dash wiring harness or the related connections.
2019 oddy elite here and the fakra was replaced. I got the cracking sound again last week, brought into honda. They said I needed the complete unit replaced. They didn't have the part so I had to bring in a week later. Later that night I left my lights on and the battery died. I jumped it and the cracking noise went away and my rear entertainment started working again. I still plan to bring it into honda to get the unit replace since I had extended warranty. But it's been 3 days and no cracking noise.
Ours is horrible. Honda doesn’t seem to have any parts to fix the issue.
still no issues after the repair?
same issue 2019 Odyssey. Been into shop 4 times, still happens intermittently.
Thank you! I just purchase a 2020 pilot and as a music lover this shit is driving me crazy
Am on the same boat and they have not yet found cause of the problem
We must sue them
Anyone have a solution for it? Can't use Bluetooth, infotainment system, DVD system, also the door locking/opening switch also activates popping cracking STATIC noise
Having the same problem again in a 2020 EXL. Fixed last year, but happening again.
So how u fix this problem?
Ours does it after hitting a bump. All ok, stress the frame and pop( like light hail is hitting the car). Taken it in twice, still happens 😠
The crackling not only sounds in the radio, but it also affects the hands-free phone. Calls cannot be understood at all because of interference. Then today, the radio popped off by itself and the screen said, "No audio connection." I had to stop the car, turn it off, and start the car again just to hear the radio. One Honda "specialist," told me that Honda thinks it has something with Android Audio...but of course, they don't know how to fix it.
Press and hold the home / day night and power buttons the self diag screen comes up select unit at the bottom then shutdown reasons , it will display the error codes for which unit is dropping out causing the noise , go to that unit and straight up the red and green fakra connectors back wires should be nice a relaxed no kinks clear the shutdown errors and exit out , if it comes back do over next unit
Where are the fraka connector? Thank you
I get static in my speaker then the music rather on my Bluetooth or CarPlay it will cut off
I love the Pilot but this issue is ridiculous and quite out-of-character for Honda. What’s more annoying is that Honda seems to know about it but are quite coy about the cause (and the fix). Mine has been getting worse and worse… hopefully the dealer is fixing it next week.
Jeff, it really is out of character for Honda. Honda always had a reputation of being a long lasting reliable car and this is really disappointing. When I ask the dealer about the fix, they are coy and say we don’t have the parts, we don’t know when the parts are coming in, and we stopped adding people to the list of a fix for when the parts actually come in. They told me to call every month and ask. Super frustrating.
Apparently, this is not limited to Pilot. It also affects Odyssey (mine is 2019) in almost exactly the same way. After visiting the dealership twice without a fix, I lost much of my confidence in the quality excellence with Honda. I love your choice of words "out-of-character". It's very disappointing and also unbelievable. They couldn't figure out what's going on. How do I know the car is safe to drive?
@@YYOOUUJHF77 have 2020 Odessy Touring, am sick of this noise, it's happening way too often every time I driving. It's stressing us out. Kids can't even enjoy a movie, all of the entertainment, infotainment system, now cracks when open/close using the door button
@@MichaelMonahanDesigner can we sue them?
Did it get repaired and is the problem gone?
2022 Pilot Limited Edition is doing it now... It is back at the dealer for the second time. Honda Tech said it is a "bluetooth issue" (BS).. So they said dont use the bluetooth OR carplay and see if it does it. After 1 day it started up again. They did a reset of the radio and said they can not duplicate the issue... I keep getting the runaround... It will start up again once driven for 20+ miles. I sent them videos of the issue to give to Honda Tech (as requested).. Tech said there is no problem. Just a bluetooth issue.. It has NOTHING to do with Bluetooth. I am about to just buy a nice aftermarket touchscreen. Whats another $2000? especially after spending $47000... Come on Honda. This is silly getting the runaround and refusing to figure it out
Taylor, same here. Dealership told me it's a bluetooth issue but it is NOT. So frustrating.
Same thing happening here!
@@britneeliberty after complaining for 2 months and them trying to "find" the issue, I got Corporate to agree on an entire new wiring system. It has been fixed and working fine for about a year now.
Have 2020 Odessy van, having the same issue and do they have a fix? I took the car to dealership four times, in total they had our van almost a month, keep saying they are going to try this that connect with Honda Canada technologist and fix...and ***kers have no fix
My 2023 Odyssey has this issue already with only 4k mile SMH
Has Honda provided a fix for this issue? I’m having the same problem.
Some people are getting fixed here and there. One thing I can say, make sure they have the parts before going in. The scheduler will just make an appointment without checking. You have to get an advisor on the call and you also have to get them to check with the parts department.
No there is no permanent fix. Ask me how I know
@@stephenloague9140 - I assume you got the fix and the problem happened again?
@@SAPDesigner yep....they apparelty work loose over time. Ours has been worked on 3 times so far. The "permanent" fix was done around April. The shop that did it does about 20 a week. It came back.3 weeks ago worse than ever. Took it back Thursday and waited over 4 hrs. Come back tell me they didn't see anything wrong. And honda said do a hard reset.....very next day it was back. But it only does it on bumps, potholes, teain tracks, rough roads, ect. I'm going to remove the center speaker.and stick a borescope down in there while my wife drives to see if I can see anything moving.
Well, I’m on my third attempt at a fix. They put in some kind of new connectors at the dealer and that worked for about a year. Now it’s back. 2021 Pilot. Dealer said they will call Honda Corporate and see what to do next. If the 2022’s don’t do it, I assume they have a fix?
Did it get repaired again? I'm so frustrated with my 2020 Pilot!
@@susanpowell9919 They replaced the entertainment module and that seemed to fix everything. It was a 3-month wait for the part though. I can get the part number from the invoice when I get back home tomorrow.

@@donfumar4572 hi, Don. I’m out of town on business right now. I’ll get back this weekend though.
The 2022s do it. Mine does it sometimes.
I have that same issue on my 2021 Honda Pilot Ex-L.
I have the same issue with my Honda Passport 2021
Take to Honda dealer it’s the fakra connectors covered under warranty
I had the fakra connectors replaced and it's doing it again. So frustrating!
Has anyone had any luck trying to get a new one?
Yes, Honda will replace the main infotainment wire harness under warranty.
The part Number is Honda Part # 32107-TG8-Af0
I fought with the Dealer on this and I have been waiting for the part on back order from Honda since Nov 21. Call Honda Corp and set up a case number with them 800-999-1009
Now that Honda Corp are monitoring the process, the Dealer is complying.
What's worse is that I drive around with this issue which seems worse when it is hot outside. I cannot seem to get the car to do it at the dealship and they will not fix it unless it will do it in front of them!! Seriously! Two years of popping.
Must sue them all
Am on the same boat as well, no fix
We have also been struggling with this mysterious infotainment issue with our Odyssey 2019. Another youtuber's video best describes the similar problem with Odyssey: czcams.com/video/yQ2f5ZX2W68/video.html. This Honda Pilot interface looks almost the same as Odyssey's. I guess they probably just use the same components.
We've been to the dealership twice and the problem is still not fixed. In fact, we are seeing additional related issues lately (like entertainment system not loading and speaker sound suddenly disappearing). It just felt like the whole thing inside the car is falling apart, but Honda just cannot figure out what it is. Quite unbelievable.
Anybody successfully have a buy back under the lemon law on this issue?
I'm wondering to just signed papers on a 2019 yesterday didn't noticed the sound at test drive now im supposed to just be fine with it? I don't think so
@@jpenadelaify i am not 100% sure but I think the 2020-2022 are the ones that have the issue. You should be ok
@@npolite22 we just bought a 2019 and I heard the static noise as soon as I got it home off the lot. Also the radio wouldn't do anything when you tried to change stations. Wife drove it to work and when I got in it there it was working just fine no noises etc
@@jpenadelaify oh man im sorry to her that. The issue is related to the wires going into the head unit being a bit short. There is a tsb about how to fix it but even then it doesn't always resolve it. I would suggest just scrapping the unit and dropping in an aftermarket unit. My sister went through hell to the point that Honda refused to work on it any longer. They made some BS saying it works normally even though she had video after every repair. Finally she broke even with the lemon law.
Terrible so expensive car to have those noise 😫
Honda has just issued a recall to fix this.
Hi. Is this true?. I got to this video since I am just starting with this issue today, that cracking sound in the speakers, mine is a Pilot black edition 2022.
