Optimization Question - Corner Cut to form a Box

  • We have a piece of cardboard that is 14 inches by 10 inches and we are going to cut out the corners and fold up the sides to form a box. Determine the height of the box and calculate the box’s maximum volume.

    why do we expect that x is between 0 and 5? how do we get it?

      Fold it by half so since the width of the rectangle is 10, half of 10 is 5. X can't go over 5 as it wouldn't make any sense yk?

      Basically x is the length of the corner, so x can't be greater than 10. Since we are folding the box, it can't be like a folded up like a folder so the max is 5
