Dual Shock Was Steve Carrell on the Office by that point? I know Jim Carrey was the guy from the Fingerlakes. But if I remember correct, he was interviewing for Michael’s old job and it ended up going to Robert California.
"We decided to cut this scene because it deviates from Bruce's character. Bruce is not meant to be vengeful, therefore he shouldn't portray his violent hate onto Evan. We redid the scene but with much more subtlety in Bruce's character. Hence the incoherent gibberish. Instead of blood and flames."
Yep. That's why they took it out. It didn't really fit the tone of the rest of the movie anyway, being I think the only gore in it. And yes technically that counts as gore.
No wonder the last part was cut out from the movie , that was some morbid sinister shit . Just look at Jim Carry's face at 3:45 you'd think you were watching a horror movie not a comedy .
+28jander I thought it was funny too. I mean nothing actually happened to Evan Baxter, it literally was just his HAIR that caught fire and when they put it out there was nothing wrong with him. Plus the delayed reaction he had was funny...when she said his hair was on fire and then he's just sitting there and a few seconds later..."Aaagh!" I think the only thing that made it too creepy was just the sinister psycho look Jim Carrey had.
+Fahad Alazraqi Weird thing is, as i remember it, in the french version the last part was actually included. Now i'd have to watch it again to make sure, but i do remember having seen that scene.
This is the only movie scene, from all the movies I've seen through my entire life, that have made me laugh to the point of tears in a movie theater. And after this one I doubt there is another movie in which I can do that again.
3:56 Wow... I have never seen that scene before. Man, it's no wonder they cut that from the movie. That's like a funny scene that took a straight nose dive into hardcore horror - that face Jim gives right before it happens. That's some twisted stuff.
3:36 "Dallas, help me!" Upon seeing Dallas' reaction, I wouldn't want him in my platoon. 3:52 I totally lost it when he started screaming and opened his eyes wide.
It wasn't the blood, it wasn't the fire. It was that audiences likely couldn't look at Bruce as a sympathetic character anymore after he did that to Evan--no matter that Evan didn't really get hurt from it. I'll bet during test-marketing, people wrote on their comment cards, "Jeez, why? Why would he do that to him? I didn't like that."
It made Bruce come off as a malicious asshole when he had never been built up as that. Sure he was down on his luck, but not malicious enough to kill a man. If this had made it in, it would be considered one of the most poorly written scenes in cinema.
I'm sensitive, the nose bleed part freaked me out. However, the fire didn't bother me as much. It feels like a horror film during the nose bleed scene though. Even Jim's face at 3:47 freaked me out.
Jim carry and Steve carell in one movie is a pure blessing
They were both in Burt Wonderstone too
