  • Learn how to upgrade the exterior of your 1981-87 Chevrolet or GMC truck by replacing your old, worn out body trim, or installing new trim. First, Kevin Tetz will show you how to install rear corner molding and side molding on the body of your truck. Then, he will show you how to replace and install a new drip rail frame and molding above your front door windows. He finishes up the project by showing you how to install a new cab molding. All of the kits used in this video are available from LMC Truck.
    This body trim replacement project is not complicated, but allow an 8 hour day to focus and think through the process.

    Normally the tv mechanics really are not that good mechanically but are good "actors" (for a lack of a better word). Kevin I r3eally believe is good at both and better mechanically than "actor" as he can be annoying as hell sometimes, but the content is always awesome and makes perfect sense.

      Did you ever end up doing this to your ‘77? I have a ‘77 and I want to do this too but those corner moldings are only for the ‘81-‘87. I have ordered the complete trim kit from LMC but the girl I spoke with on the phone tells me that the trim kit for the bedside does not wrap around the corner AND they don’t sell a corner molding. Now I don’t know how I will connect the bedside moldings to the tailgate moldings. I have not received the product yet and I am hoping that when I do, I will find out that she is wrong and that in fact the bedside molding does in fact bend the corner. I’m hoping you will tell me the same. LOL

    My 86 Silverado has the moldings that you put on your truck but mines all weathered especially the side moldings around the truck, this video is helpful how to install brand new moldings. Keep up the great work and I'm pretty sure I'll be an LMC Truck customer too. Do a video where you put the factory pin stripes back on or better yet, start selling factory stripes stickers in a variety of colors. I don't think the dealership even sell the stripes stickers anymore.

    Isn't there supposed to be 2 clips for each corner piece? Or is it different for a little bit older truck? (76 C20)I see where a hole was drilled on the side but not on the back of the cab for it. LMC shows 2 clips each for the corner pieces as well as 8 clips for the straight piece. (76 C20) Video is great BTW.

    • @jedwebster8976
      @jedwebster8976 Před 5 lety +1

      Yes the double sided tape used to on the the stick on portions is much better than the original. Just make sure the paint is clean. Use alcohol cleaner like Tetz did or wax and grease remover. It's also a good idea to have the metal and stick on moldings warm so the adhesive can get a good bond. Good luck

    What happened to the paint on the fuel tank door? I have been following this build since I am restoring an 82 and to see all the time, money, and effort that you have put into it, I think you should fire who ever painted the bed. That is a horrible tape line and it just ruins the entire truck. :(

    • @turboflush
      @turboflush Před 5 lety

      It's just a rough paint line, since trim is going over it.
      A paint line without trim requires more steps. No need for those if trim is going over it.

    Bought the 32 foot roll from LMC. Installation went fine on my K5. Few months later the molding chrome finish is starting to look bad and the adhesive tape is separating from the molding causing it to lift. The tape is still well adhered to the body so this was not installer error. Poor quality product and will need to redo the whole job.
