    The problem with gun lines vs hordes in this game is that the pile of bodies eventually acts as cover for the attacking force. The dead zombies, in this instance, provided plenty of cover for their advancing forces. The pile of bodies does not allow the gun lines to attack at long range. This results in inevitable close quarters fighting where the gun line loses against overwhelming numbers.

      Conversely, it also allows the gun lines to focus its attention rather than shoot everything that moves. Because the pile obstructs their vision, they’ll only shoot what comes over the line

    I find it comical at this point how you are seemingly surprised every single time you get flanked even though it happens nearly every single time! And even more so that you always seem to forget that if you shoot enough zombies they'll form a bridge themselves and be able to use that or they'll just go through the water and die until they have enough bodies that they can cross it their own way.

    Bridge defences like this usually work better if you widen the defenders formation (a 2 or even 1.5) and have them set back a little. It allows the centre to focus the top of the body piles while the sides can still hit units across the bridge.
    Also I'd love to see some ridiculously fast and powerful units, more in line with miniguns than MG42s. Great video as always.

    I know this is for balance reasons, but I know that to create these MG42’s damage was reduced as well as accuracy. I’m just here to say that along with the 1500 rpm that the MG42 was spec’d to, the terrifying thing about them was that they were quite accurate and fired 7.98 rounds, making them slightly more powerful than a standard rifle round.
    The MG42 was such a masterpiece of a weapons system that I believe modern German forces still use it to this day, as it was reproduced with modern materials and rereleased as the MG3 in 2003. If you actually made the unit to spec they would be like the flamethrower units.

      It was accurate because the weight gave it enough inertia to stay put, and the extra high fire rate took advantage of the inertia to send bullets before the gun moved due to recoil. This gave it tight groupings as long as the shooter had good trigger discipline

      Yes and no, it's raw fire rate made it impressive but it had several serious flaws that made it only equal to its contemporaries:
      1500 RPM means it fires 1500 rounds in a minute... That sounds good until you realise that every bullet costs money and materials and needs to be produced and supplied, making it a logistical nightmare for the already overstretched German forces
      Overheating is the next issue, firing for more than a few seconds would melt the barrell. Combined with the lack of a quick change barrell meant that they had to constantly change barrells resulting in further stretched logistics by having to supply insane amounts of spares and massively reduced firerates to prevent overheating or to change the barrell
      Mag fed MG42s often used 50 round magazines. 50 rounds at 1500RPM or 25 Rounds Per Second will empty the magazine in literally 2 seconds. Belt fed magazines mostly solved this issue but come back to the previous issue of barrell heating and ammo consumption.
      When you combine the insane use of ammunition, frequency of barrel change and limited magazine capacity, you quickly realise the MG42's 1500RPM is only theoretical, and it's practical RPM reduces down to that of a standard MG of the time.
      Yes it was a great bit of engineering, but it's the classic WW2 Wehrmacht mistake of making something look great on paper but often ignoring practicality and logistics.
      Take for example the WW1 Vickers/Maxim guns. They fire only 600RPM, yet some people tested recently a 100+ year old Vickers gun by firing 2 million rounds continuously, only stopping occassionally to change the barrel. The gun fired all millions of rounds without a single stoppage and a near unending stream of accurate gunfire. Logistically, Maxim/Vickers guns were superior MMGs despite being half a century older, although the MG42 had the utility of being more mobile allowing it to fill the LMG function giving it points for versatility.

      I'd also add that the MG3 redesigned the platform to reduce its fire rate to 800-950RPM or 1000-1200 RPM, because of the issues having an insane RPM brings.
      Anyway that's my tangent no one asked for. In short, MG42 was a fine weapon, but it's far from a masterpiece and I wouldn't even consider it superior to the other MGs of its day

    I wanna see them add in realistic reloading and ammo reserves to balance things out. Guns and ranged weapons are just comical in UEBS because they never stop to reload or run out of ammunition. It would open up so many opportunities to play around with army composition.

      How about add realistic zombie movement speed and bot some crazy WWZ zombie movement. Guarantee if the zombies moved as lumbering as they did in the original Night of the Living Dead, a real MG-42 would have no issues.

      @@jeffburnham6611 1-what is ‘realistic’ zombie movement, they are, as we know, fake (in the way shown in media) and how they move is based on the media they’re in (but most do show them being stumbling things and depending on how the zombie works/is made then stumbling would be more realistic though this would depend heavily on the type of zombie)
      2-That would, however, be a really cool toggle setting for zombies so you can customize them more

      @@Haiesta i think by realistic they mean how a corpse would react if somehow animated. They have body farms where they leave bodies in all sorts of conditions to help investigators figure out how long bodies have been in certain environments based on what point of decay they are in. We know how bodies react after death so if a corpse was walking and a certain environment after x amount of time we would know how rotted and locked up the joints would be so we would know they would move slow but we would know almost exactly how slow.

    I wish they could add a distance behavior to the AI, one where once an enemy starts to get too close moves back to try and keep distance between their enemies and them

    The conclusion that I’ve come to form this is that the ai is incredibly smart when it comes to finding ways around chokepoints to the point that bridge battles don’t really seem to work to well

      I think it's more that there are no tools to block off areas, meaning that the HUGE maps give plenty of avenues for units to flank.
      If it were possible to prevent units from entering certain areas of the map, it would actually be possible to funnel them into a chokepoint like a bridge.

    You need troops on the roof tops behind the bridges and troops and possibly over on the other side scattered around to thin out the zombies. Otherwise they'll constantly lose.

    Hey Daley ! I managed to create a ridiculous unit: the Landslide. Basically it's a chicken with 2000 rate of fire, about 50% accuracy, and projectile rock. Even if you set them to 900 range, they just shoot around them , and it creates sort of a landslide, engulfing melee units.

    a solution for this kind of problem might be to custom create a unit which can body block he flanks. I'm thinking a sherman with infinte health and no damage set to hold position. make a wall of them aroud the flanks of a defending unit so they don't contribute to the fight except as an environmental barrier. assuming thats possible to do with the editor which i dont know.

    You should 2x or 3x the troopers here. The body wall will create protection that will give them an advantage in the mid-late game. You might need 4 or 5x to actually make it even. Would be cool to see a redo.

    The MG 42 came with 3 Barrels and Oven Mitts , so they could change em every few minutes or they would melt.

    the only way to stop the flanking is for lack of a better term, a triangle map. extremely high walls with whatever group you are testing backed into the corner. their enemies will have only 1 choice but to come at them head-on.

    Already at 05:41 You can see the problem with defending bridges with open areas behind as to compare to the first bridge... Is that the soldiers will start fire at inconsequential targets on the sides rather than firing on the zombies approaching at the bridge. That is evident a setup for failure. Not only due to the fact bodies in this game actually are physical and pile up rendering a obstacle and cover.

    EDIT: Also, use the Tsunami power to pre-flood some of the areas the zombies traversing to flank the defenders.

      Yes, that's what I was thinking. Use tsunami to alter terrain and condition the battle flow. Not only for this bridge defense, but also other scenarios, like ambushes and the like.

    Hate to say it Daily... but the mg42's aren't that great of a unit against mass hordes. Once the body pile builds up, the entire back part of the horde are mostly safe and can keep pushing up into melee. (Which is basically true for every range unit).
    Should do a bit more of a 'tweak' to their stats to make them really powerful units overall.

    I'm curious what fire rate you set them to cause if you didn't know the MG42 had an adjustable fire rate that would go from 600 RPM (rounds per minute) to 1200 RPM. 600 was for anti-infantry 1200 was for anti-air purposes.

    Can you use those buildings as defense? If so, you could spread a number of soldiers on roof tops say 5-10 guys on each roof top to shoot down on those zombies and that would help them stay safe for a little while.

    Fire rate of MG 42 is about 1,200-1,500 rounds (high velocity) per minute. With the single German Soldier simulating 1,200-1,500 rounds per minute, should have lasted longer

    What would be cool if the Corporate Marines from Aliens with the; plasma Pulse Rifles pump action Grenade launchers.
    And Robot Centres that was in the corridors destroying the Xenomorphs. We could have a simulation battle? With them Vs the Zombies.
