  • The 5 best restaurants we found in Santo Domingo. Here's your ultimate guide on where to eat in Santo Domingo. It's no secret that I'm a big-time foodie; I love eating around the world. On this solo trip I took to Santo Domingo (the capital of the Dominican Republic,) I made sure to add a handful of restaurants to explore in La Zona Colonial and Santo Domingo in general. Exploring the culinary scene was missing from our last trip to Santo Domingo due to covid restrictions, so this time I made sure to indulge in the best fine dining Santo Domingo has to offer!

The service fee is the tip! We only tip more if we particularly like the service. Dominican servers don’t depend on tips for their livelihood. Good if you tip over it, but no need to. Source: I’m Dominican, the 18% tip charge policy is also in the Dominican code of labor.

I’m Dominican too and have family there. The restaurant stays with the service fee, it’s not passed down to the servers. I asked a handful of them at several restaurants on different trips I’ve made.

@@WheretoNau Then that should be dealt with between the restaurant and the employers, or soon the DR will be like the US, that servers don’t have a real salary and depend 100% on tips, which makes tips outrageous. Servers still get their full salary in the DR. Let’s try to keep our country the way it is; tourists can pay large tips, but not all locals can. That’s how inflation happens.

The bad part is that it doesn’t go to the waiters yet most tourists think it’s a tip to your server.

In your opinion, what is the top 3 romantic restaurants in Santo Domingo, to impress a woman?

    • @WheretoNau

Take her to Maraca for sure! It's trendy, with great cocktails and inventive cuisine. If you're looking for somewhere romantic, then I would choose El Meson de la Cava. El Meson is intimate in an underground cave setting with a candlelight-lit dinner.

@@vlogaftervlogtv7660 I’m not sure; you might have to google a florist in the area. El Meson de la Cava is not located near shops, but Maraca is right in the heart of La Zona Colonial, so it might be easier to find a street vendor there.
Good Luck!! And after you dine there, let me know how it went and if she liked the spot :)
