      Absolutely not. The 1st record was the timeless art and the rest were certainly good, no filler really happening till the record after Angel Dust. Not saying Angel Dust wasn't edit way more influential. But the whole thing with Chuch Mosley was more human.

    Angel Dust left an indelible imprint on my mind. It struck a profound chord in my teen soul and really shaped my younger years.
    The dark and sometimes really menacing atmospheres on some tracks absolutely blew me away.
    Mike Patton's vocals/lyrics on Caffeine and Jizzlobber were so disturbing, intense and unique, sounding like no other singer I had ever heard, with a range so vast it seemed unreal.
    And after all the crazy array of emotion the album puts you through non-stop, Midnight Cowboy will eventually play and soothe you out of the madness in the most delicate way.
    30 years later the power held by Angel Dust is still effective. This record has been one of the most faithful musical companion so far.

    Back in the heyday of Epic, the song became ultra popular here in Perú. So much that some company managed to book the band to give a concert in 1993 (it was very difficult to book bands to play in Perú back then). Fans were thrilled by the announcement, but all of a sudden, the concert was cancelled. I had to wait until 2008 to see them live in Perú. And it was one the most energetic, crazy, frenetic concerts I've ever attended, both from the audience and the band.

      @@HabAnagarek i'm meant that i have sampled them, not FNM. i cut the snare and kick samples out of the master track. of course they didn't use drum samples, although there was once a comment made by roddy in interview that one of the FNM producers used drum samples without their knowledge and that only could have been matt or andy so.. 🤷🤷🤷

    • @Pedroleum100
      @Pedroleum100 Před rokem +1

      @@HabAnagarek - AFAIK, there was a lot of layering used on this album which also concerned the drums. So what you hear is not just "acoustic drums mic'ed". And they even used samples containing drum parts, e.g. the drum intro in Midlife Crisis contains a sample from Simon & Garfunkel's "Cecilia" (along with Mike's drumming).
      What you describe can be found on "King for a Day, Fool for a Lifetime", where the recording process was much more straight forward.

    • @HabAnagarek
      @HabAnagarek Před rokem

      @@Pedroleum100 Sure, but the Simon and Garfunkel wasn't sampled on Bordin's drum hits. To my ears, I hear him playing his part, and there's the sample track(s) over him or under or whatever.

    • @Pedroleum100
      @Pedroleum100 Před rokem

      @@HabAnagarek - Okay, but if you don't count the samples (which were used intensely on this album) this still leaves all those layers. I recall that Bordins once complained that Angel Dust “had layers of stuff heaped on it and you had to go looking for it” and that is why the band approached the recording of "King for a Day ..." differently, i.e. more sparsely.

    A singular album. Literally nothing sounds like it. There was so much amazing and creative heavy music in the early 90s, (RATM, Jesus Lizard, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Kyuss, tons of others), but Angel Dust is a record that sounds like nothing before or after it, including anything in FNM's catalog. I think most of that has to do with Roddy's use of the sampler and Mike's insane vocal acrobatics (and the very liberal use of overdubs to make it sound like there are ten of him at once). Timeless. Love it. Top 10 all-time, any era.

    My friend gave me the album two weeks before it released. I loved it instantly.

    Great album, such a thrill when it came out. Sol Invictus was great too. A really good comeback

    My first concert without an adult with me was the FNM at the Roaeland Theater in Portland Oregon on their Angel Dust tour. Opening up for them was Babes in Toyland. And Kyuss. That show literally shaped the person I was to become. I’ll never forget the wild intensity and beauty mixed together with their performance. I’ll also never for the how much of an impression the band Kyuss had on me that lasts to this day and stench of bass player for Babes in Toyland .
    Anyway…Angel Dust is an absolute triumph on an album. Long live Faith No More

    Such a good album, I was 14 when FNM dropped Midlife Crisis..absolutely flipped over that..the good old days of 1992 ..

    Love this band and many thanks to FNM for the music. It started with Real Thing for me as a teen, buying the cassette without any expectation of what it would contain.
    I played it constantly and went deep into those songs, pressing my orange colored foam headphones as hard against my ears as I could, trying to just get further into that mix. I was floored. Still am today. I'm a hifi junkie now and just ran through angel dust and king for a day last week. I can't stop. One of my top favorite bands for life.

    Around 2014, I read somewhere that the lyrics to "Land Of Sunshine" were made up of fortune cookie fortunes and questions from the Scientology personality test. A few months later, I got one of the lyrics in a fortune cookie, the line "life to you is a dashing bold adventure." I still have it. It's funny that fortune cookie makers recycle fortunes like that lol.

    The 2 greatest Mike’s at their craft in one band IMHO!! I love all FNM’s work and MikeP renditions of their older classics. Masterpieces and Legendary the whole lot!! Great guys as well although when I saw and met the band MikeP did not interact with fans post shows. Frustrating but I always respected him as a human and artist. Roddy and Billy can never be replaced nor truly replicated to boot. JimM’s grit and grinding are the pinnacle of their sound me thinks- choppy and melodic glory.

    Angel Dust and Album of the Year are FNM's peaks for me, with Angel Dust being a delightful mess of insanity and Album of the Year being a mature, focused record with really good songs. That said, King for a Day is a great album, as well. Either way, Faith No More is great. ☺

      My friends all LOVED The Real Thing, but when King for a Day came out, all of those friends were making fun of me for still listening to Faith No More and said that Patton's singing was infantile and stupid. Within a week of constant playing, though, the album won most of them over. Even my stuck-up elitist friend had to admit that Coralho Voador was an amazing song.

      @@derkeheath5172 man, of all statements to age like milk left in the sun, calling Patton's singing infantile and stupid is kinda out there.

    I'm just old enough to have known who Faith No More was pre-Angel Dust, I love everything FNM did post-Angel Dust but that album really is something special. 30 years later I still play it start to finish and it still blows my mind. Really cool to see you three talk about it a little. :))
