- SEATTLE - The Seattle Police Department (SPD) officer responsible for hitting and killing a pedestrian with his patrol car missed a major deadline to pay an infraction related to the accident, court records show.
In March, the Seattle City Attorney issued a $5,000 traffic fine against Kevin Dave, whose patrol vehicle struck and killed 23-year-old Jaahnavi Kandula.

Here life had "limited value anyways" according to the officers body camera evidence, why would he?
For the guy complaining that Officer Dave had no siren, one of the videos clearly showed that he was chirping his siren. The last chirp was just as he hit the intersection. But he was going so fast that no one could have responded in time to avoid him. Jaahnavi had an obstructed view because of some kind of construction barrier. I walked the intersection the next night looking for a vigil I never found. But I definitely saw the barrier and I decided not to cross Dexter there because of the line-of-sight issues and the speed of traffic. The barrier also shows in the same video where it looks like Jaahnavi is running out in front of the car.
I think since the crash construction has been finished and now there is a traffic signal at that intersection, but the night I visited in January 2023 I walked all the way to Mercer to cross with the light there.
As for chirping the siren, the idea is not to waken the whole neighborhood. When police do it in my neighborhood even in daylight I find it EXTREMELY annoying because I don't see well and the chirps are too short to tell where the car is.
Officer Dave needs to be considering a different line of work, whether or not he loses his driver's license for not paying his fine.
I half expect that OPA will rule that Officer Dave was operating according to departmental standards. I think would be GROSS but if that happens, I hope Jaahnavi's family finds a good lawyer to sue the city both for the money, the example / deterrence AND to make the city rethink their practices.
No, you can see she started to run when she realized she was going to get hit.
@@ElehcimNoskcaj she couldn't see or hear until too late because of the construction barrier, other traffic noise and officer Dave driving almost 3x the legal limit.
I exactly see why it looks to some loud ke she jumped out of nowhere. My issues are excessive driver speed, inadequate chirp.
@dorenecornwell6213 I agree with that. There is also no law against running across a crosswalk that I am aware of.
@@dorenecornwell6213that’s not the same thing! Chirping a siren confuses the people around you, whether it’s late or not you shouldn’t be speeding like that without giving the public ample time to react with a siren.
@@Jprager no argument from me. There is no way Jaanavi could have heard the one chirp almost at the intersection in time to stop
I have been downtown for 30 years and you have to be vigilant on foot and take cars as a threat to many people are comfortable walking out in the street which is a common practice in Seattle as we know and assuming you’re never gonna get hit this person ran out without paying attention and the officer was grossly speeding, but I see people racing through downtown doing 75 to 100 through Belltown on a regular basis so be aware people head on a swivel
Don’t drive thru a green light without checking for someone running it but most people are on auto pilot
I have never seen someone runout into traffic so agressively before. I don't know how someone could see police lights at night when they are that covered, from head to toe in black.
she was at fault too. running across the street while wearing all black.
@@MarkZimmermanI didn't realize that was punishable by death.
lmfao, y’all have some severe mental health issues. She had jeans and white shoes. She was wearing a dark coat, which is common attire. The dude was traveling at excessive speed within heavy pedestrian city area. It’s completely reckless and irresponsible. Anywho, this officer is toast….
and he’s digging himself deeper because instead of just getting this stuff out the way, he’s being selfish and defiant. 😂
She only started running when she realized she was about to get hit.
How does wearing black make you blind? Also, how do black boots taste?
Corruption corruption and more corruption at all levels 😂😂😂😂

Um... why is a hysterical reactionary activist weighing in on this ?
How is he hysterical?
Explain how he's hysterical please. It's disgusting that an innocent person died by behavior that could have been avoided, should have been avoided by someone who took an oath to bear more responsibility to society. SHAME!
@@ElehcimNoskcaj TLDR
@@oceania2385 Yes, I'm not surprised that reading a paragraph would present a challenge for someone of your ilk.
@@ElehcimNoskcaj Satire, I get it. Lulz
“Cop” is derogatory, their pronoun is “Police Officer”.
