- Rural Montana towns provide a sense of community worth nurturing. As a wheelwright, blacksmith, machinist, welder, woodworker, farmer, and sometimes an electrician, neighbors helping neighbors is worth hanging on to. The little rural town of Joliet, MT is still a place where even a wheelwright can survive and thrive.

Unfortunately , U Tube only allows one thumbs up. You are not only a neighbor , you are the neighbor everyone wishes for .
I live in a small town called Hagerman, New Mexico. I grew up here and moved back after being away for a number of years. People are willing to do things for others. I have been on the receiving end of great kindnesses. I have had many blessings.
Dave, speaking for myself, your willingness to help out your neighbors is just another bonus view that you give us into your world. And right now, it is a welcome affirmation that we still are a land of neighbors willing and able to help one another. Thanks for taking us along.
I second that.
Quality time with neighbors.
Priceless.
We don't have much time on this earth. Be nice to people and cherish the moments.
More of this can not harm CZcams. It teaches some of us to share more and be more open to do things like this. Thank you
What you are describing, Dave, is the life in 'small-town' America! If you have the tools, skills, whether or not you have the time, to help your neighbor. This, too, is what I love about 'small town America'.
The journey continues and we are made better by the fact that you allow us to tag along. Stay safe, sir! We'll be here next week, God willing.
Gamble Rogers said about small town life that everybody knew what everyone else was up to but they still read the local paper to see who got caught at it.
LOL, I like that. Sounds like the "old timers" I grew up to miss as life moves on. ❤
I've told my kids - "your neighbors are like you inlaws. Maybe you can live without them but they sure can make your life better."
Biggest question I have, did you enjoy the change for the week? My guess is, YES. I have been a handyman all my life, my dad raised me that way, it is rewarding and oh so much fun to do for others. Great video, do it again in a while.
This video is so great, it shows that there are still people out there that value community and helping others! It also shows that a "Jack of all trades" is very important to a small community!
Knowing people that you can help or people that are willing to help you are invaluable! Enjoy that small town feel, I miss it so much!
God Bless the United States of America, the greatest Country in the History of Earth. May she survive the afflictions and maladies that are now upon her. Amen !!!
It's nice to see more of what you do in Joliet. Glad you brought us along. Thanks!
Good friends...good neighbors...helping each other...generating great memories. Well done sir. The Golden Rule in action.
While watching this video it brought me to the realization that this is just another piece of Good Old American way of Life that makes me proud to be American.
Even so I do not live in America it still warms my heart to know this is what America was built on and I grew up being a part of it... "God Bless small town America" Amen
Small towns are the backbone of what makes the USA so great thanks Dave for sharing and taking us along with you blessings to you and yours 🙏 stay safe out there ☺️ have a great day 😊
Thanks Dave for sharing your town. It’s always good seeing Small Town America. 👍👍👍👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Hi Dave, after having living most of my life in the city of Lyon (France), I now enjoy living in the countryside in a very small town (3500 inhabitants) probably bigger than Joliet ! But I can now exist as a human being. Help my neighbors farmers to catch up escaped cows, help old neighbors for some crafts in exchange for a drink, share a mushroom harvest with friends. What happiness. In the other hand, in this rural country there are old carts and old wheels in each barn but here there is no one to repair them . It's a place where your knowledge is lost.
I love it, well said. I am a small county boat shop. I have welded countless snowplows, sharpened mowers, fixed hay rakes, even the occasional combine fits through my doors...neighbors are what its all about.
Sir, your out reach to your neighbors is what Life is all about. Thank you for sharing your time with us too. Best wishes to you and your community.
This is what i imagine of true freedom of enterprise in a free country / every one is connected enough to apricate the love of a community / God Bless the USA😊🙏
Don't assume that it only happens in the USA. It's exactly the same here (UK), and all over Europe, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa. Small rural communities the world over only thrive because of this sort of community spirit.
In any country even China;)
Thank you, very much, for caring about native grasses.
There's nothing like small town life. So many values in a small town.
Dave, you never have a reason to apologise for not working on wheels or buggies. the enjoyment I get from watching you videos is more about artisans live and work. I love the diversity of tasks this one covers, mowing to roofing to planing just simple beautiful honest activity that we would be a pleasure to have to do.
as usual thanks, fulfilled my weekly need for continued story of your life Dave may it ever be so
Thank you for all your help Dave I do truly appreciate you! We are really blessed to live in our small town ❤️
You inspire me Christie. Keep it up 😊
Dave, Never apologize for being a friend. Somethings are more important than CZcams. You continue to be you, that's the part we like best.
small town life is the best, I went to get my haircut and was asked to assemble a cabinet for a free cut, I can't see myself living any other place, thanks for the videos
We're honoured that you would share your time with us. Anything you want to video is a gift. Thanks.
I thought I lived in a small town, but you have shown me what a "Small Town" is and I would like to live where your are. The neighborliness is what I like and the willingness to help one and other. Thank you for inviting and taking me [us] along this week with you. Hope you get that land done.
I really like this peek into ordinary life in Joliet, thank as always, from Sweden.
Crazy to think someone from so far away has an interest in a little town that o frequently visit.
Nice to see a slice of rural America, and friends helping each other instead of the negative news.
Thanks for taking us along, Dave.
small towns are the backbone of AMERICA!
Love seeing small town America where people treat one another with kindness and respect. Seems as though you are a well liked and trusted among neighbors and that’s worth a lot.
Love it, I'm a cooper, a barrel builder, tomorrow I am on the roof, and helping a friend. Small town is the best.
That's the penalty for being "handy" and known for the ability to do stuff. I know. Last spring I got to drywall my nephew's full basement (walls and ceilings) as well as put in a new bathroom (walls, ceiling, floor, door as well as fixtures). Here I am the family "handyman". Life is what happens when you are making other plans.
I have one word for all of this neighborly help: grace.
Dave, i have the same little projects are asked of me....pleasure doing them for good folks....my hat is in my hands thanking you for this bit of home town lore... :)
Nothing wrong with watching a good neighbor doin his thing.
David that for me was the best video you have done it just shows that there is still a community of friends and friendships that make a small town thrive and are still will to help one another you all take care keep warm now winter is approaching 😀😀👍
If the whole country would remember the golden rule, well I think it would be a wonderful coming together..
As I know ALL lives matter, it doesn't matter how much you have, it matters how much you give ,helpand care about the neighbors.
God bless you and your loved ones
Another great video Dave. I don't need buggy videos all the time. It is great to see neighbors being neighbors. Nothing beats small town living. Thanks for a wonderful video as always.
I ordered a saddle from a saddle maker whose shop was on main street in a small Montana town. Waiting list was several years out, and when I picked my saddle up, he was in a new shop, outside of town. He said it was nice being able to get things done, with nobody to interrupt when they stopped in to visit and have coffee. But he sure missed folks stopping in to visit and have coffee!
And on the 7th day he rested...Great to see the sense of Community and neighbourliness 👍
Exactly.
The week in the life of a man in a small town willing to help his neighbor, I can’t see anything wrong with that, great video. I know the feeling, been there done that it makes you feel good.
Dave, There is nothing better than to know and help family and neighbors.
Since you are a “Jack of all Trades”, you will never lack of work!
Greatly enjoyed seeing your side projects. Let us know if you finally got the leaks stopped.
Something new thanks for your helpfulness to the community Love thy neighbor have a day love from TEXAS
Its not like you spend 24hrs a day in the shop doing nothing but shop work. You have a life that requires some time for your self and others. That's GREAT. Thanks for sharing.
Dave, I can't speak for everyone, but it is very nice to see a little bit more of everything going on. I'll still watch! Thanks for doing what you do and keep it up, it's very much welcome.
Dave...You are one beautiful human being...God must surely love you as He gave you a mountain of talent and laid back grace...your show is the best ....thank you for the privilege of knowing you...even if only by the miracle of electronics!
But why are there no trees in your landscape. Neighbors, friendship, time to give, and to share, your village a popular place to live, and magnificent hands who know how to do so much. A place out of time, thank you Dave for sharing with me so far in France. A big big big absolute thank you Pierre de Vierzon France.
All that happens when you are planning something else is called life. Glad to see that after 40+ years in business you are still able to participate in life.
Thank you for sharing your day helping neighbors and working on your property.
What a lovely life you lead, Dave, so long as you remain well and able. Makes me feel quite a townee! Good job you have ready access to supplies. Bernard.
I drove my old 1953 NAA Jubilee Ford tractor for years. Spent a lot of time working on it too, and finally restored it and sold it. That sure was a good old tractor. It did a lot of work for me.
Sounds like just another week in the life of a busy man. Thanks for taking us along and see you next week.
I love this week's video. I grew up in a small town and while I didn't run a wagon shop, I did have weeks that went about like yours. That's small-town living, and there is something to be said for that - neighbors helping neighbors. Good on ya! You are a blessing to your community.
I also live in a small town and was raised in one. I much prefer knowing and helping the people I know. It has come back to me 10-fold too.
From one small town guy to another you can't find better folks than small town people. Cheers, Dave and thanks for the view of your life.
I grew up in a small farming community where most of the people were kin, if not by blood, then by marriage. Most everyone either worked on the farms or in the cotton mill. They are both gone now, mostly replaced by houses.
When you get down on your knees to say your prayers tonight, thank the Good Lord you still have a small town and for the wonderful abilities you have to help your neighbors.
Thanks for the video and good luck finding the roof leaks!
I lived in a small town long ago. We all new each other and looked out for each other. I miss it.
Watching this again, I can recall as a kid 70 years ago, my granddad (in a small town) constantly fighting leaks on the roof of his shop, built in 1925. We would lug 5 gal. buckets of tar up the ladder and apply it with a mop. Somehow, I always ended up with more on me than the roof, and you can guess what happened next. He never did get all the leaks stopped; he actually worked on that damn roof the day before he died in 1972, at 81. I still miss him .... and that shop.
Ah, but this video is important too... it's an opportunity for those who have never experienced the neighborliness of small town life (and may never get the chance, either) to understand what it's really about. This is, after all, how we built America.
Thank you for ”whatś happening report. Much appreciated. 😊
Hey Dave, you get an atta boy and a pat on the back, job well done, you're what the world needs more of!😁😁😁😁
Thanks Dave, I grew up in small town of Sheridan, NY. A lot of rural living and agriculture... I've carried the ideals I learned from that small town through out my life. I appreciate that you speak from your heart - it's so refreshing! We all should follow our hearts and God!
Right neighborly community. Good to help one another because the day comes when everyone needs someone. Good to control sagebrush when grass is needed.
The guy you help today, is the guy who helps you tomorrow.
I live on an Island on the south coast of the UK, (the Isle of Wight). The "Caulk-Heads" (those born on the island), who have gone to school locally, generally know the families of their school mates, so it becomes a very 'small' place where even if you don't know somebody, you know somebody else who does! It pays to be nice to folks :-). Even the 'Overners' who (like me), have come over to live, if they work locally, get 'known' and to know others! Contrast that with the Big City, where no body wants to know anybody else, where you see the same faces on the morning commute, but never talk. I know which I prefer.
A side note: The BlackSmith always used to be the centre of the community anyway :-).
Hi Dave and with all that said you still Found the time to make a weekly video for your CZcams community. Thank you sir.
Hello.( Здравия (in russian)) ✋A lot of people who live in big cities dream of a life like yours. Really. Thanks for showing.🤝
Nothing better than a small town in America. Thanks for the video.
This is a nice change of pace for the vids. It is nice to see there are still places in the country where neighbors still know and help each other. It is a real shame this is becoming very rare.
LIFE is always more important than CZcams. Thanks for sharing sone time of it with us all😀
Growing up in a small town myself. I get where you're coming from, Dave. There's always someone in need of a little help. You can decide whether or not you want to help. But, when you need a little help, people will remember who has helped them in the past.
Some times it's more important to step back from the daily grind to help a neighbor than it is to produce product
Personally I loved this video. Gives other people in different countries (New Zealand here), different work environments, different stresses to see what an usual week is like in the world of Dave, the wheelwright, handyman, roofer, electrician, farmer and gentleman. Thank you. I look forward to all your videos.
Thanks for taking me along, now I feel like I accomplished something today!
Nothing beats small town life.
Thanks Dave, small town America, the backbone of life!!
I do appreciate small town life as well. I was born in one. I guess it’s in my blood. Done a fair amount of travel in the world but there is no place like a small town and neighbors. I really appreciate this video. Take care down there.
That small town sense of community is what's missing for most of us living in the big cities, even in the suburban neighborhoods. My hometown was like that when I was a kid, and has done better than most at preserving that, at least in the "Olde Towne" part of it. Still, not quite the same, and I appreciate you sharing your week, on Main Street and out of town. My uncle had that same model tractor for his orange grove, except he had the full fenders to keep the tree brush away from the wheels. Gave us kids a place to sit and ride along with Uncle Bill. Good luck with the leaky roof. I've chased many a leaks in my time. ;-)
This is what community is about. Caring is what makes us who we are. Not bad at all
Dave, many thanks for sharing, we have lost all of our small businesses that would do that sort of thing, it's great to see what you do for your community.
It's nice to see someone just doing the normal stuff of everyday life. Being a good friend and neighbor to those around you and helping others should be what life is about. Vice versa of course. I along with many folks envy your normal stuff of everyday life. Thanks for sharing.
I love to watch you work, Dave, but I also derive great pleasure just from you being you. Thanks for sharing your skills, your life and your loves with us. 👍👌👏👏👏
Great video...community and helping others, and other reciprocating when you need help is what life in a ‘community’ is all about... All too often people don’t join in the community and that when the fabric of the community breaks down...great to see you are helping keep that small town (or as we call it, village community), alive and well...and great work on your land, trying to restore the grassland...👍🏻
We always watch you every Friday night. I think this may have been one of your best ever.
Dave life is not always about work... Nice to see America as it should be thanks for showing this side of what America is all about.
Some lyrics from a John Prine song-
"In a town this size, there's no place to hide
Everywhere you go you meet someone you know
You can't steal a kiss in a place like this
How the rumors do fly in a town this size
In a smoky bar or the backseat of your car
In your own little house someone's sure to find you out
What you do and what you think
What you eat and what you drink
If you smoke a cigarette they'll be talkin' about your breath"
But, I wouldn't have it any other way, than a small town.
RIP Prine. His songs are a national treasure.
John told it like it is.
If the whole country would remember the golden rule, well I think it would be a wonderful coming together..
As I know ALL lives matter, it doesn't matter how much you have, it matters how much you give ,helpand care about the neighbors.
God bless you and your loved ones
RIP John Prine.
Your thrice blessed - once in knowing the gift of family/friends and neighbors, once for having tools and skilled hands to use them, and once for knowing that these things are the true blessings in a life. Enjoy it while it lasts.
Thanks for the video. I'm in Texas and have a request. Please keep the freezing rain and ice up north. We have trees and power lines down all over the county. From another small townee, thanks again.
Thanks, Dave! This what life is - doing what we need to do to keep the world spinning the right direction. Thanks for sharing more of your life and more of your "little town". I hope to visit some day. Robert.
Great video on a small glimpse into your life outside the shop. Recently myself and another neighbor helped our elderly neighbors out by cutting down about a half dozen ash trees that had fallen victim to the Emerald ash borer and were in danger of falling onto their driveway. Our Neighbor very humbly said he didnt have the money to pay us, got paid by the satisfaction of helping them out , felt better than being handed cash. Youre a good man Dave. PS loved seeing the golden jubilee, I own one that I have been using to grade off my yard after I cut down and removed the stumps from about 45 ash trees.
fixing leaky roofs can be very frustrating water travels and it is sometimes hard to pinpoint but it is a good feeling when the breach is finally found
A change is as good as a rest Mr Engels. Thoroughly enjoyed this one, thx.
Lovely reminder of how life should be. You have privileged us in sharing this part of your week with all.
After years of watching your videos, this may be one of my favorites. I too am a small town guy and the grace shown to each other is amazing. Funny how as time passes so do our points of view.
Life serves us up different ways about our days. You never know from one day to the next what will change your plans. Thanks for the video.
hugs dave you are so awesome, i was sorta that way back home so many relied on me to do so so many small jobs, while i worked full time in a factory, as well as tended to repairing so many farmers equipement, making many parts with my old dinasour lathe and milling machine, though i had a sweet new welder. i miss the small town life but some days i do not. i mostly miss the hours in a tractor cultivating or pulling my ol combine for my dad's farming operation. hugs to you dave i so so so love your videos.
Dave, I love your videos but I don't often comment. That being said, this video brought down on me like a thunderclap the memory of growing up in a small farming community (approx 400) in New Zealand in the 1950's. So nice to know that those values still hold. xThank you so much for what you do and what you represent. From the other side (or end) of the world, small towns are much the same. God bless, Mark
So very true. Thanks.
