The Calif. Zephyr in Ft. Morgan on 17DEC2023 (another long one, folks)

- Prior to the appearance of the Zephyr this morning, I overheard a communication between the dispatcher and #5 about having a police presence to meet the train upon arrival in Fort Morgan. The Zephyr did make its stop here at 0625 MST (1 hr. & 32 min. late). P42s #19 & #4 brought the 8-car consist to a stop with cars 6 & 7 to the parking area platform for passenger service and a police escort from car 6 with1 ex passenger.
I lost count of the departing passengers but there was at least 1 off and 1 new fare who boarded car 7. Both police came by the camera on their way to meet with Mandy at car 6 door.
There was a lot of standing around and info exchange which was rather boring. Feel free to skip over most of the video material to time stamp 13:00 .
Finally, the high ball was given and on a clear signal, the Zephyr departed for Denver's Union Station.
Thanks to the operating crew for the greetings this morning as well as the local law enforcement.

Good evening, Terry; Thanks for dialing in along with the comment/question. U fortunately, that type of behavior seems to be the new thing for rail passengers. It's not really new but the uptick in occurrences is catching attention. Yes. You did see a string of red lights in an upper window of car 4. There were a couple other strings that didn't get picked up in the video. Nice to see some patrons ae in the spirit of the season.

At least this time the operating crew was able to contact the BNSF dispatcher in Ft Worth, TX to get a responder to the station. Next thing you know, they will want to put up a gallows for quick justice. LOL!

I'm a curious sort, so, no skipping ahead.. to quote Melissa, in Twister, "I find this quite interesting"... one thing better, would've been them giving you a cup of coffee for the duration! 😊

Tomorrow, I start with the Santa style cap with a tan bill and a white puff ball on the top. It does wrap around my ears quite well. I think that those who are awake may appreciate the humor.
I did have plenty of that great coffee this morning. Got me through my laundry chore.

Hi Mike. As i said a few days ago, "never a dull moment in Fort Morgan"!! I guess it's, Tis the season to be disruptive and get ejected from #5 in Fort Morgan! Fortunately, as a conductor, I have never had an incident like Mandy and Antonio had to deal with. I wonder if the passenger will continue their westward trip tomorrow morning like the fist one did? Oh well!! LOL.

I'm sure the law enforcement crew liked showing up to escort another someone from the train. I think it has to do with not reading the fine print of the ticket.
This was the second time I have seen Mandy have a person escorted from the Zephyr.

Beginning to wonder what I missed out on. LOL! I was going to add Mean old Mandy" but I know her better than that. This was the second time I have seen her throw a rowdy from the train. Has a job to accomplish and doesn't need the extra headaches.
We are headed for the upper 50s today and rising there quickly. At least there is no wind for now.

The one time that I rode the Zephyr west from Denver, we had to stop for about an hour in the Middle of Nowhere, Utah, to have a loud obnoxious drunk removed from the train by law enforcement. Part of the experience, I suppose?

I have no clue what transpired. Don't think I want to know. Time will tell if he is allowed back on another train tomorrow. I witnessed one drunk removed from the Zephyr at Ottumwa, Iowa. That was enough.

Good afternoon, richblacklock; I thank you for dialing in as well as the question. Those cars are combination coach and baggage cars. Upper floor is the coach section while the lower floor has a large storage area along with the restrooms and shelving for passenger bags.
The Zephyr seems to have one on almost every train.

I was having a great time looking at the window decorations in the sleeper windows. And drooling over the cup of coffee that Mandy had.
