  • This California Zephyr arrived in Fort Morgan at 0520 MDT (19 min. off). P42s #19 & #82 (in Phase VII livery) brought the 8-car train to its first stop of two with cars 3 & 4 (sleepers) having passengers board (2 to both cars). Then Mandy turned control over to Joe who had the train moved ahead bringing car 7 (coach class) to the station platform for passenger service to 5 departing passengers and then boarded 9 new fares.
    With the station work safely completed, Joe gave the high ball and on a clear signal, the Zephyr departed for Union Station in Denver.
    Thanks to the operating crew for the greetings today.
    Everyone please stay safe!

      Good afternoon, Ken; Thanks for stopping by as well as the comments. It was a busy time on the platform this morning. The snow and such will be west and south of Fort Morgan by many miles. We may get a spit and a skiff but not much else. The front range and south as well as the high country will get the bulk of the snow. Oh well. With only 6 more days of winter it is time for a good snowstorm thru here.
      Have a great afternoon and evening back there.
      Please take care and stay safe!

      Good afternoon, Carolyn; Thank you for dialing in as well as the comments. That sounds like a neat video from out there. I'll have to look for it. We do have the 75th anniversary for the California Zephyr coming up quickly. That may be a reason they have been sending different painted engines this way. That is a supposition.
      Have a great afternoon and evening down there.
      Please take care and stay safe! 🤓👋👌👍☘🍀☘

      Good afternoon, Ken; Thank you for dropping by as well as the comments. I appreciate it. It was a busy time on the platform today. I rather like that. Watching the AMTRAK main web sight to see if they release a #5 Zephyr this afternoon or not. The weather event going on out here has them concerned about the mountains and Denver right now.
      Have a great afternoon and evening.
      Take care and stay safe!

      Good afternoon, Joseph; Thanks for looking in and the comment today. That livery is the same as being used on the ACL42 engines. It is applied to a couple of P42 Genisis engines after they went thru overhaul. The other engine is here in Colorado and powering the Winter Park Express from Denver to Winter Park.
      Anyway, have a great afternoon and evening. Please take care and stay safe!

      Good morning, Curtis; Thank you for tuning in along with the comments. That was a different passenger stop this morning. First, there were two senior conductors working the train. Then after the fact, I found out that train was sold out. That is a good thing for AMTRAK. I did watch it go thru the "Big 10 curves" west of Denver heading for Coal Creek Canyon and the Moffat Tunnel. Tomorrow's #5 may not depart Chicago today as per the main AMTRAK web site. I will be watching that.
      I hope that you have a great afternoon and evening out there. My next-door neighbor and family are in your neck of the woods for the spring break. The pics I saw this morning were interesting.
      Anyway, please take care and stay safe!

    Morning Mike. Love it when the Zephyr comes flying in like that. It's like it just wants to get to all those passengers. Been drizzling and a little rainy here since about midnight, hoping it continues all day. Have a great day out there and stay safe.

      Good morning, David; I thank you for dropping by as well as the comments. The raindrops visible in the video have been it so far. We have been left out of most of the weather event other than the wind. As I heard it last night, we will get a splash and a skiff if that much. It was nice to see they had doom for the passengers today. That train was at passenger capacity as it left town. Always nice to see.
      Have a great Wednesday up there. Hope that you get some moisture of the rain type.
      Please take care and stay safe!

    Good morning, Mike. Looks like spring break is in full swing in Ft Morgan, today. Or maybe folks are planning on escaping the coming snow! (Snicker). We have a winter advisory for the high country for today and tomorrow. This mornings news showed flurries in Flag already. We're supposed to get light showers here in the valley. Stay inside and warm. Take care and I'll check in tomorrow.

    • @MikeJensen-jt9yr
      @MikeJensen-jt9yr  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Good morning, Phil; Thanks for dropping by as well as the comments. Spring break is underway here and will end next week. My brother is headed toward the valley of the sun as I write this. He left here this morning in hopes of getting well west into New Mexico before stopping foe the night. He did leave a day earlier than original plans. We were all watching the Weather Channel and what the prognosticators there were putting out about this event. Even AMTRAK has put a hold on info for the #5 due to depart Chicago this afternoon.
      I did watch today's #5 make the climb past the "Big 10" cameras west of Denver.
      I am expecting a spit and a skiff here. If anything at all. With just 6 more days of official winter left it is time for a major snowstorm.
      Have a great afternoon and evening down there.
      Please take care and stay safe!

    Good morning, Mike. That was a lot of passenger activity today. I think I'm gonna need snowshoes more than you will, if the forecasters are correct. But really, I'll be happily hunkered down indoors tomorrow and hope to stay off the streets for all that snowfall fun we're expecting. So, we're approaching Springtime in Colorado, the season when you may travel to the station on the e-bike one day, and trek over there on the snowshoes a couple of days later. 🤣 Take care out there, whatever means of transportation you're using!

      Good morning, suz; I thank you for dropping by along with the comments. Yep. Seems like you will get most of this event up your way. I'll get out the boots just in case. LOL! With 6 days of official winter left, it's time for a major dump of the white stuff. Sadly, I think we have been left out of the mix again.
      I haven't removed the trike from its winter haven yet. I would have liked to, but I know better. The pickup will still be employed for the runs to the depot.
      Have a great hunker down day(s) up there.
      Take care and stay safe!

    What is this Denver might get a foot of snow? Once again we get the wind & fire weather watch. No snow here. Nice to see passengers. Be safe & TY for 5. Congrats on over 2,000 subs!!!!!

      God morning Cheryl; I thank you for tuning in along with the comments. Yep. The chain laws are in effect from 0400 this morning for I-70 going west from Denver. Nothing much out here. This will be a mountains, front range, and southern Colorado event. I think that we will get a splash and a skiff if at all. Figure from I-70 south out here on the plains upwards of 18 inches in places.
      That was a lot of passenger work today and that train was full. The family that boarded the sleepers had to divide into two rooms as nothing else was open. They'll get it worked out I'm sure.
      Anyway, have a less than windy day and keep the hose handy. Just don't open your parasol outside today.
      Please take care and stay safe!

    Good Wednesday morning Mike! I must have misunderstood Amtrak’s website! I read on there that #5 was delayed indefinitely. That was earlier this morning. Nonetheless this was a good stop for today’s #5! Have a great Wednesday out your way! Do stay warm! Weather here should be around 60 degrees again today! Mark in Iowa.

      @MikeJensen-jt9yr  Před 3 měsíci +2

      Good morning, Mark; Thanks for dropping by as well as the comments. The weather west of Denver proper has gone really haywire. I-70 had chain laws in effect at 0400 with a warning from the Colo. State Patrol that closure of the I-70 may take place. AMTRAK also stated the service may be disrupted by the weather event. Last nights #6 Zephyr was caught up in the early part of this storm and is now running 6 hours late.
      Three spits of rain and clouds here with only a sniff and a skiff projected to happen here.
      That's the way it goes.
      I just returned from morning coffee, so I am not completely "up to date". Oh well.
      It was 45 F at train time and is 42 now. Tomorrow will maybe reach 35 F. followed by seasonal 50s after the event moves out.
      Anyway, take care and stay safe back there.

    Good morning Mike. I saw a post that said 82 could head through to Emeryville, but we'll know for sure later when the Zephyr passes the Big Ten Cams. Either way it'll be a great weekend with the 1 to 4 FEET in the forecast for WP. Next Wednesday will mark the 75th Anniversary of the inaugural Burlington/Rio Grande/Western Pacific California Zephyr so hopefully Amtrak has some Heritage Units lined up for next Thursday's Zephyrs through Colorado. Enjoy your day.

      Good morning, Mike. Thanks for dialing in and the comments. It will be a viewers' day on the Big 10 cam if the clouds don't get there first. I do appreciate your alert of #82 in this consist.
      My brother left a day early to get around this weather event on his annual trip to the Valley of the sun. Heard on the radio that chain laws are in effect already up I-70. Not planning on going too far today.
      Hope that you get some great ski and boarding in up there.
      Take care and stay safe!

    Morning Mike!
    Wow! Busy stop at FM this morning.. off and on!
    Lots of snow and 5 terminating in Denver, I heard! Be safe coming down tomorrow. How much are you expecting? It's warm here, so it's forecasted as severe possibilities here. Actually more south of me. Hail and tornadoes possible. Early start to the season, but, this whole winter has been unusual.
    Must not have any 60's or 40's ahead anymore, unless they mentioned it later. Track work, or something else?
    You have a great hump day while you dig out that snowblower. (bet it wasn't too far in) ☘️❄️🌨
    Jean

    • @MikeJensen-jt9yr
      @MikeJensen-jt9yr  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Good morning, Jean; Thank you for tuning in as well as the comments. That stop in Denver was expected as the front range and continental divide is getting pounded today. I-70 had chain laws in effect at 0400 this morning and there was talk of closure up to the Eisenhauer (Ike) Tunnels.
      As for out here, a spit and a skiff. Neither have happened yet. Very slim chance of it here. South of here the weather is to dump a lot of snow along I-70 and south into New Mexico and Oklahoma panhandle. Western Kansas may get some much-needed moisture as well.
      With just 6 more official days of winter left, it was time for a major snowstorm out here. Oh well.
      Anyway, have a great Wednesday back there.
      Please take care and stay safe!

    Good afternoon Mike from sunny warm 70 mid Tenn. Been wondering where is the Moffat tunnel between which stations from Denver to Grand Junction? Boy today's #5 was a busy one for sure.

    • @MikeJensen-jt9yr
      @MikeJensen-jt9yr  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Good afternoon, Ben; Thanks for stopping by as well as the comments today. We have hit the high here of 45 F. and are now on the down slope side. Won't get this warm tomorrow.
      The Moffat Tunnel is on the DRGW line from Denver across the high country toward Grand Junction. That line way back when went over Rollins pass come snow, wind and avalanche. David Moffat had the tunnel dug and put the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad thru it giving access west. Union Pacific now owns that line and AMTRAK operates across to California. Winter Park Resort, Feaser, Granby and Glenwood Springs are all on that line.
      It did get busy on the platform this morning. I hope to see more of that.
      Anyway, have a great afternoon and evening back there.
      Please take care and stay safe!
