@@familydevice8398 I get your point but do you honestly believe a 7 year old is entirely capable of wholly considering these risks and making a fully informed decision? @@hannahm147 True. I think that all of them know the risks, and I should have said this in the original comment but the barrel racing world should just make anyone under 15 wear a helmet. (15, in my opinion is old enough to make those decisions)
@@familydevice8398 idk if 15 is a good cutoff point. I personally feel every discipline should just mandate helmets for everyone, period. If not, at the very least 16 but probably 18 years old before a person can make those choices. I'd say 18, that's the age we always use for these sorts of things. I can confidently say that a lot of 15 year olds are still not fully capable of grasping the actual possible dangers. Nothing against them, it's just the way our brains develop
That little girl is a real horseman. She's not just holding onto the saddle horn for dear life, she is riding that horse, only grabbing the saddle horn around the barrels as you are taught to do. @@jennyburgess3489 really? She's strapped onto the saddle because she can't stay on herself. The hosrse is doing it all. Shes not strong enough to tell the horse what to do or to use her legs to move over.

All the ppl here saying that the horse doesn't do all the work and that you don't ride are invalid. I started riding when I was 5, it's been over 12 yrs now and yes, when a girl this young is running patterns the horse surely does 90% of the work, if not more. He doesn't even feel her.
She is an ok rider but maybe take the seatbelt off. If the horse falls, she goes down with or under it. And you can tell without the seatbelt she would fall off. Also this is such an honest horse
What an awesome little tornado 😂 At her age I had a beloved Welsh pony, We'd ride for 7 miles, He would stop instantly if he sensed danger on the trail ahead, ears back, etc. I always listened to him and turned back, as we were in Bear country. Beautiful friend, I'll never forget him or his intuition. I'd make up songs to the rhythm of his gait. Horses are incredible souls, especially with kids ❤️ !
WRONG. As a former COWGIRL who barrel raced before doing 30 years in the Marines, I TAUGHT MY DAUGHTERS EVERYTHING ABOUT HORSES AND BARREL RACING. Their dad would never have the courage to do this.😂
I love how this horse is constantly flicking an ear back, clearly paying attention to what the little rider is asking. Also that even though the kid is bouncing, she isnt hauling on tthe reins like crazy, like I've seen a lot of adults do.
Sorry to burst a lot of people's bubble but this horses performance has little to nothing to do with the rider. This is a super experienced well trained barrel horse who knows what to do simply because he's done it ao many times before. If you took that little girl off he'd run the same course the same way with no rider at all. It's just facts When I first started doing hunter/jumper the horse I rode in my first couple of schooling shows knew what to do without any input from me. He has been shown for 10+ years in hunter / jumper shows where the difficulty level/ height of the fences isn't comparable in the slightest. It was no coincidence that Rio always won the schooling shows and the shows in the lower levels no matter who the rider was. The horse was just good at his job and knew what to do and had done it so many times before that he literally had the courses memorized.
Yeah, they're so connected that she's literally strapped to the saddle otherwise she wpuld have no chance of staying on. Y'all just love to make a total farce out of riding, huh?
I really don't like barrel racing (it's a leg wrecker and features some of the worst reckless riding)). But that's a super horse 🐎 carrying that *bold* itty bitty kid around the pattern. I think the kid is strapped on. Like a seatbelt? Gotta like this kid for her gutsy boldness. Now teach her to actually ride so her horses stay sound.
I’m not familiar with barrel racing but my first thought was that it would tear the hell out of joints. I don’t like/won’t watch polo for the same reason, it’s just an inherently disrespectful way to ride.
what’s the difference between this and any other sport? jumping is horrible for horses ligaments. racing is horrible for their joints since they’re started at such a young age. tennessee walking is horrible for their joints. i can go on and on about things that are also bad for a horse
Best part is watching the horse turn around in the home stretch making sure his baby was ok. I remember when I was 4 or 5 and the farm horse would ran just fine with my mom or aunts. But every time I would get a ride they would kick her trying to get her to trot or run and she would just turn around look at me and say no way no matter how hard they kicked her. 42 now thanks for the great video. She also let me crawl all over her as she slept in the pasture.

She is great for her age, but there is one thing that is bothering. Because she is wearing a seatbelt, if the horse goes down, she’s going down with ‘em. She could possibly get killed because of this.
I agree. If you watch her, she really has no control over the horse. She isn't physically capable of doing so at her age. That being the case, she has no business doing what she is doing.

The kid is strapped on for life. You can see she flops around like a rage doll. The horse is worth a lot of money and can do the pattern by it’s self which is sad that the kid can’t even ride and their giving her the credit.
or are you just mad because she can do more than u? Not saying that’s the case but hey she had the courage to even go that fast and whip around barrels at 7. I would say she’s pretty good.
And the way she flops like that is because it’s hard for her to stay on a like 16-15 hand horse and she’s holding on and i would flop too.
What a well-trained horse! Worth his weight in gold.

This is the perfect example of terrible parenting. Her parents are risking her life by not making her wear a helmet. Her brain is not even fully developed nor does she have the mental maturity to make such a life changing decision for herself. Pure ignorance from the parents.
WTF?????? 😂 Her parents probably know the risks, SHE knows the risks, and that horse is VERY well trained and KNOWS she is small. She is safer on that horse than she is in a car.
@@familydevice8398 I get your point but do you honestly believe a 7 year old is entirely capable of wholly considering these risks and making a fully informed decision? A horse is still a horse and accidents happen. That's also why we wear seatbelts in a car, because accidents still happen and it's better to be safe than sorry

Sorry to burst a lot of people's bubble but this horses performance has little to nothing to do with the rider. This is a super experienced well trained barrel horse who knows what to do simply because he's done it ao many times before. If you took that little girl off he'd run the same course the same way with no rider at all.
It's just facts
When I first started doing hunter/jumper the horse I rode in my first couple of schooling shows knew what to do without any input from me.
Will be looking for her in the future. Go girl
