    The interesting thing is a lot of us are coming from the classic 15.4" MacBook and naturally the 16" seems like a 1:1 relationship. The way I wish someone would've explained it to me is that the 16" is the 17" in a smaller package. And the 14" is the 15.4" in a smaller package. If you look the screens are physically smaller but the resolutions are slightly larger. So only get the 16" if you were the type of person to get the 17" MacBook of yesteryear. I have both a i9 2019 16" which to me is a portable desktop- when I go to a client site, or spend half the week at my gf's house where I don't have an external monitor. My employer provided me with a 14" M1 and that thing is a true laptop: biking with it in your bag, on a small table in a coffee shop or airplane tray, on your lap, in bed watching a movie. And when you're doing 'primary work' you just plug it into your external monitor. IMO most people would be better suited with the 14".

    @arvinsim Před 2 lety +52

    I also got the 14" because even though I love the size of the 16", I find that for any work that I need to do for more than an hour, a desktop with a monitor is much more ergonomic and comfortable with me.

    Without having a monitor, I’m afraid I would end up regretting the smaller screen. Productivity requires screen real estate, as evidenced by that massive desk monitor. Ultimately it boils down to personal preference and use case. Good video. Gives me something to consider.

      @JonnyRoams  Před 2 lety +10

      Yeah I’d definitely agree with your statement. I was thinking about it today and I feel I’m using it at my desk 80% of the time. The times I do use it standalone however I’m not bothered by the screen size. But I guess that’s because it’s not as often as others would! Good luck with your search

      @@JonnyRoams Desk space is another factor that needs to be considered for each person. My desk is so minimalist that I can’t even fit a monitor. It’s basically just enough room for a laptop. If I had a bigger monitor, I definitely wouldn’t want a huge 16” taking up half the desk, especially with a keyboard, mouse, etc. Thanks for the information and personal experience.

      Well if you have an ipad with you, you can always use Universal Control, or extend your display, and you are taking a display on the go with you. If your buying a 16 inch for home use, your buying a monitor anyways.. You could also buy a cheap traveling monitor on amazon. (hahaah ok maybe I went a little overboard with that one) But I love my 14 inch, and whenever I have traveled and I know I need another monitor for productivity I just take the ipad with me and voala 2 monitors on the go.

  • @pressrepeat2000
    @pressrepeat2000 Před rokem +6

    I think the 16” is better for most if they can afford the premium. Most will spend more time looking at it, than carrying it. Unless you have to carry it every day (such as to and from work), the extra screen real estate is great for productivity. And 4K screens are not as sharp as the Retina screen, I prefer working on the laptop screen directly. Buying a smaller laptop because you have to travel once in a while seems weird. You have to optimise for the time you use it most, not for occasional other use.

    • @joe-lee

Since I spend more time looking at it instead of carrying it, I finally decided to opt for 16" macbook.

    I used to think the 13 inch MacBook Pro was so amazing, it never made me want the 16inch MacBook Pro until I actually bought it and then I realized when I was at home it's such a Supurior experience because the screen is way bigger which I really enjoyed and the speakers are incredible, however it is big, so if I was going to watch movies on a plane or take a MacBook on vacation I think the 13inch MacBook Pro is a better option because its so much lighter and portable with alot of power still. So if you're mainly going to be at home using it, I would say get the big one because it's a better experience but if you're going to be traveling I would say get a 13inch or 14inch.

    The 14 inch option was actually the reason decided to go for the new MacBook Pros in the first place (rather than going with a 15-inch Windows alternative as I have in the past). I've got a desktop computer as well as several monitors so I don't need this to be a desktop replacement. I want my laptop to have a balance of portability and power. My previous laptop really started to wear me down (15 inch with larger bezels); I hated how big/bulky it was in my bag and how cumbersome it was to pull out on a flight. I'm really thrilled that the 14 inch can have the same internals as the 16 inch (and doesn't really start to throttle unless you get the full 32 core GPU in the M1 Max). It's why I chose this over the Razer Blade 14 which unfortunately limits your RAM to 16 Gigs unless you bump up to a larger size AND throttles a bunch when you're using the battery (not great for working in the field). The MB 16" costs a couple hundred bucks more anyway. Unless you really need the extra large GPU, I think that money is better spent on an external monitor so you can let your laptop be as portable as possible and doc it to a larger display when you're at home.

Motels I can use my 11" Ipad as 2nd monitor on the rare occasion it's worth the effort so screen size is not enough of an issue to win over portability. It seems like the 14" can do everything the 16" can do, so if you're taking it from docking station to docking station, like I do, the 14" is actually more convenient in many ways. Whereas during the Intel days, the 15/16" was significantly more power than the 13", we don't really have that issue with the M1, unless you get to the 32-core M1 Max, which performs noticeably better in 16" than in 14". I'm getting a 24-core M1 Max 14" to replace my 16". I know that I'll miss having slightly more screen, but then again, I also have a couple of iPads, and I can always use one of those to get a bit more viewing area.

Nice contrast, 120hz.. but when I used it at the store, I noticed pretty distraction color and contrast shift on the edges, since my eyes are in the middle, which makes the left and right sides just a little too much off-axis apparently. I went with the 14in. Still waiting for it to come in but my current laptop is a hulking 17in beast that is still pretty powerful for being a few yrs old now. But I almost never take off my desk and it essentially like a desktop with my external monitor because it's too heavy, doesn't fit in my travel bag, the charger is massive and it' has like 3 hrs of battery on light usage. I'm ready for something smaller and more nimble.

I have one question- as this Macbook doesn’t have Ethernet cable, what would be the way to use cable internet with this laptop? Also could you recommend a portable router, in which you can put a sim card internet and then connect with a cable to the macbook (kind of to use a cable internet connection on the go, while travelling)?

I hate seeing CZcamsrs buying 2-5 laptops just to review them and send them all back so that Apple suffers a loss and has to resell them as refurbished.
