How to Become a Fashion Designer with Alexa Chung | S1, E2 | Future of Fashion | British Vogue - Zábava
ever since i was 8, i've always wanted to become fashion designer and now I'm 15, have no idea where to start and willing to get any tips
playlists i make same!
Just practice! Learn to sketch, sew and write!
how simple, thank you!
Move to a country where you can produce quality clothing for cheap.
The most basic thing is to start sewing with basic patterns and clothing after that you could move on to a much higher difficulty such as shirts with modifications, types of sleeves, playing with colors, fabrics, etc
To be honest, studying fashion isn't a obligation. There are so many designer's that did not sutdy fashion and are doing awesome in the fashion industry. Plus big companies care much more about working experience than sutdying. But I think it's still not wrong to study fashion. It's just not necessary :D
american designers are different its harder without experience to gain some these ppl cone from Russia and other countries knowing how to sew and everything already starting they're line with money they have to be a fashion designer u must know ppl and have money or not be from america I know because I'm one with no experience
Cake is Yummy Yes, But studying will get the best result of achieving something. Read books, Search for your answers and STUDY. Ive been studying fashion since 2 years and now im designing clothes.
Thanks for your words....I make stuff and sell it on Etsy but I want to do big things. Sell it on big companies.
So true, and I have worked as a professional fashion designer for 15 years and every week I post a new video sharing all of my fashion secrets with you 💖
Thanks for saying this
I want to become a fashion designer but I'm scared that I'm not good enough :(
IYOMODA same ;(
Well for starters that type of attitude is NOT gonna get you anywhere. :/ even if one person tells you that you aren't good enough, someone else will tell you that you are. Just practice drawing skills and originality.
And that’s your downfall
Same same same
No one is good enough when they start! It doesn’t matter where you start but where you want to end up. If you love it do it anyway even if no one thinks you’re good
Pheobe Philo, 1996. Stella McCartney, 1995. John Galliano, 1984. Alexander McQueen, 1992. Talking about how to become a fashion designer today, yet these notable people from CSM all attended from 20 to 30 years ago.
CSM is known as being the best school of fashion, but it's coasting on a reputation. Thats not to say very talented people aren't still coming out of it; you don't see them on its list, because theres just too many of them. Almost entirely they are international students paying huge fees, then getting unpaid work for years afterward.
Alexa talks to the MA students, which makes sense because the BA students are in hoards and masses, and the foundation students have no access to machines or equipment.
In 1980, there were about 80 students in the foundation program; in 2013, there were 400. 70% of the foundation students are international, paying international fees.
To go through the whole schooling that CSM recommends (foundation, BA and MA) costs $90,000 (international students).
Shouldn't we investigate ways to become a fashion designer that are effective for the future? Ones that don't cost $18,000 a year (international students) just in tuition? We're in a time where there is no pre-determined place for young designers; we need to carve our own path, because this one isn't nearly as real or legitimate as it seems.
There are too many fashion designers that are not needed. The need for the more technical jobs are not being advertised and pushed enough. Universities are a big business and will not admit this.
100% agreed. Same thing is happening in India. It's a bigger worldwide scam.
This needs to be more than 6 episodes 😭
Soooo blessed to be a fashion designer!! Everyone please follow your passions!
That's amazing! Do you have a steady income from your work?
Yesss!! I love being a fashion designer, it’s the best job ever 💖

I get so much inspiration from this series especially because being a fashion fond and not being able to share my interest with someone around me, makes me feel hopefull to see that there's a huge group of people out there that have the same perception of fashion as me. That's my dream. Belonging in an environment where I feel like I actually fit.
Such an interesting series, and so insightful to the industry. Thank you British Vogue!
this series is great and I can't wait for more, I just wish the episodes were longer !
Love this series. So informative and insightful. Plus, Alexa is queen. X
I LOVE you for doing this series! So interesting and exactly what I needed right now. THANK YOU!

Great job! Keep'em coming.
I've been wanting to get into the fashion industry from such a young age so this series is great thank you xx

This series is great! Exactly what we need. British vogue your dedication to supporting British designers and showing things of actual interest is wonderful :)
Fashion designing indeed makes life more exciting and inspires another level of creativity that further adds to life and productivity! Thanks.
I didn't realize my talent for anything with fashion until i picked up crotchet in 3 days and made beautiful doggie sweaters. I'm 22 and never been to college. I would love to go to school for fashion design. this gave my novice eyes a turn. Great insight on what could be to come.
Shyla Pollard we all know that life is hard but, you should to worked at H&M/other clothing brands first. #StepByStep
absolutely love everything about this
I was sketching and designing gowns and clothes since very very young,I wanted to be a fashion designer, but growing in a small town with limited funds and people judging too much,I decided i shouldn't try it,but I still do,and I wish I could go to university of fashion even though I fear, they would force me to design ridiculous garments like we usually see in runways plus the money requiered, wish at least work as a fashion designer with the skills I already have.
Hope you've started something. You will do exceptionally well just believe in your craft
Relax CreatorM same
Honey, maybe I can help you. I have worked as a professional fashion designer for 15 years and every week I post a new video sharing all of my fashion secrets with you 💖
@@designbyeide6905 where do designers get the fabric from ? Im perfect in ideas, sketching im 18 and never understood where do they get the fabric from ? Do they need to make it by ur own ? If yes then how? And about printing the designs where do yiu get that done ? From a company ?
@@depr3ssedsoul158 there are big huge fabric markets if u go around and travel. And If u want your own print there are companies who do that. Printing machines, hand prints etc. U can give your designs and they will be able to do whatever u want. And as for fabrics u have to travel every corner because u can find lots and lots
Oh gosh finally, something real!. Im so stuffed about the fashion scene where everyone is wanting to look the best while talking nastily about the person next to them. I don't want to be with such people. I only want to infinitely learn ^_^
Great series! It's really good to see the industry be taken serious. Congratulations Vogue and Alexa!
I love how everyone is literly loving fashion here and talking about tips! ( someone had to say it)
Alexa is such an inspiration, and this series are the bomb

Lovely, I wish there was more than just six episodes!
I'm currently doing a bachelor in filmmaking (i'm 2nd year) and I've always sort of in the back of my mind wished I'd done the costume degree after working with the costume students on set and seeing what they get to do. Molly Goddard just confirmed that for me! 🙈👏
Greer Lindsay did you graduate? I’m a costume student graduating this spring❤️
yeah I'm watching this from nz and alexa chung is my favourite person in this earth
Very interesting episode! Thank you
Great series! Enjoyed watching them.

I’m a 22 cis male. Straight white and a 6. Fashion has always been a huge deal to me but I didn’t have the self awareness to know what was a deal to me at all. Now that I’m here I’m excited and ready to become one of the best.
Best Chanel ever!
I love this serie and interesting
love this!!
This is actually really good
Great series! Alexa, you are a marvelous inspiration and role model for young gals out there. To just BE themselves. Be bold, don't be slaves to fashion, but rather helping women discover their own "style" . I think you will come into your own even more as you age gracefully,. You remind me of Jacqueline Bisset! Bon Chance!
Love this job
Give us a Series 3! 💁🏼💁🏽💁🏿💁🏾💁🏻
Do you wanna come over to mine and take it back to the Dawson’s Creek days?
'..there's an episode 3, subscribe to British Vogue youtube channel and you can see it. Or you can make it up in your head, but i wouldn't be as factually correct.'
lmao
Thanks for the share 👌🏻
This series = triple thumbs up emoji. Also, Alexa is bringing the lolz like Anna Wintour brings sunglasses (often). So thank you, thank you, thank you very much.
- Elvis™

Amazing!
It's really helpful for people who want to be in a fashion industry, i think. I want to study sth like fashion journalism or marketing in UAL but yeah, income, money.. way too much for students (especially if you are not a British)
Dream big, get up and get it done, I tell myself everyday 😍
Fantastic video 👍
i love her skirt (it's from carven new collection)
When I was in school I wanted to become Fashion Designer but my parents forced me to pursue engineering I was dead inside in my first year but I fall in love with computers so its not that bad at the end .. Today you can take your business(be it anything) at the top with the help of technology!!
Great content
