    Gimme, Gimme, A man after midnight or SOS are two songs you need to check out; Abba were a Swedish band who won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974, thereafter they had a huge number of hits until 1982 when, the two couples having divorced, they decided to put a pause on their career; the pause has lasted for nearly 40 years. Wonderful pop band with incredible singing from the two ladies, Agnetha (blonde) and Anni Frid (brunette); fantastic music and production.

    I agree with Niels , they were very big and had most no.1 hits and charted songs in South Africa. on some of those songs one of the girls sings lead and you can get an idea of each of their voices

  • @markymarc7833
    @markymarc7833 Před 3 lety +11

    "SOS", for as good as any pop music writing you'll ever hear. Various rock legends have apparently conceded that the music is fantastically written, for example Pete Townshend of the Who. It is said to have also inspired the writing of a Sex Pistols song, too.

    Thanks for this beautiful reaction. Two married couples made up the band and this was the girls flirting with their husbands .. later they broke up and made the greatest break-up song ever "knowing me, knowing you"
    They actually knew each other way before they formed the band and got married. They have actually reformed this year as I suspect you have heard.
    ABBA are one of the truly great pop bands of all time.
    Love them. And this reaction does them justice.

    I have heard that in Abbas beginning they made a lot of music in the studio that was released that became popular quickly before they had the knowledge of their fame. They were already famous in Australia before they went there and didn’t know it. They went there to do a concert when they got there by plane they were mobbed at the airport by thousands of people they had no security and event ready for their fame. Also each girl married in one of each of the guys. One couple broke up and the other stayed married. The guy of the couple that broke up wrote the winner takes it all that Agnetha sang and she was one of the ones that broke up and the one guy who broke up wrote the breakup song. It is kinda sad but they had to make the best of their situation, fame coming so fast. Abba was greatly loved by the public and still are.

    This would be my favourite ABBA song and whilst, yes, it is funky & groovy, I've always found it actually very sad. Look at what's she's saying - 'When the pretty birds have flown' take a chance on me; 'If you change your mind' take a chance on me; 'If you let me try'; etc, etc. As someone who's been called ugly all my life, I know what she means. Watching all the 'pretty girls' get all the attention while standing alone and lonely on the sidelines. Hoping someone might see that you're actually a great person with a great personality, rather than just seeing the 'outer shell' and being dismissed as unworthy. Hoping one day you might get a shot at happiness with another person. Very upbeat musically, but very sad lyrically.

    ABBA was the BIGGEST group during their day. The 2nd largest export from Sweden. (Oh, their Swedish.) To this day, their sales are one of the top groups in the world. The first song they wrote (don't remember which) they didn't speak English. They sang strictly phonetically. They learned English fairly quickly and became fluent.
