- A spontaneous decision was made to grab 34046 ‘Braunton’ on The Welsh Marches Express. Starting at Birmingham International the tour would be Diesel hauled to Bristol Temple Meads before the Bulleid would take over for the run over the Welsh Marches to Shrewsbury.
Starting at Abergavenny 34046 can be seen at speed passing the signal box taking a run at Llanvihangel Bank with the Diesel giving a good shove, thanks to @LiamsLocos for manning the camera for the shot off the footbridge at Abergavenny. The next shot was at the now closed foot crossing at the end of the platform. At Hereford the loco would take on water allowing us to overtake. This allowed a shot a Leominster (again thanks to Liam) and a shot at Ludlow. I met @harnettyrailways here who had a long whistle arranged. For the return journey I wanted to try a shot I saw at Craven Arms near to Stokesay Castle so I headed out with @JakeBSteam to have a look. The final two shots show ‘Braunton’ after a water stop at Craven Arms. Again thanks to Jake for manning the second camera.

Awesome footage 👍🏻.
This train is "not hanging around" steam haulage is supposed to be a relaxing journey of slow accelleration and faster bits. However add a modern train schedule and a diesel pusher and this is what you get. Lovely video and good steam effects. The driver has the time to play to the audience.

Great video mate. Sadly I couldn’t get out because of stupid school 😂. It was sad about the weather at the start of the video but the loco made up for it.
Kind Regards, James
Cheers James. The weather improved throughout the day. Typical weather for the Welsh marches
Super filming. Braunton looking and sounding great!
Thank you.
Hang on a minute, what is that train doing at the back?

Most steam tours run with a diesel locomotive attached to the rear these days. They provide power to the coaches/ heating when required. They also provide assistance when needed. Some tours do run without. But most have a diesel
