    My simple Dark Continent theory:
Ancient humanity was indeed part of the DC ecosystem back in the day. Human nature based around suffering led humanity to seek what would be a more peaceful life than what is found on the continent. This leads humans to going to the known world, but this also kind of explains the sort of “contract” humans have with the gatekeepers: Humanity gave up a harsh life on the DC to live a relatively peaceful life elsewhere, but as with anything Nen related, this comes at a cost - not being able to make use of the good things that existed on the continent (like nitro rice, unmanned rock, etc.).
The gatekeeper serves as a check for humanity trying to go back and get more out of their new living situation while enjoying relative peace in the known world. This is why you hear the terms “lesson” when the gatekeeper forces humans to bring back a threat and not anything good to the known world. I believe this is because the gatekeepers made a pact with ancient humanity when they first left for the known world to safeguard against human nature - nen user humans in the DC probably severely affected the DC ecosystem in some way, probably even being the most dangerous threat of all.

I'm always reminded that the Chimera Ants lead by Meruem were considered class B threat level... Making anything class A or S from the dark continent soooooo terrifying

    • @pillowmaster4818
      @pillowmaster4818 Před 3 lety +60

Going by scaling, the average chimera ant was about building to large building level. Moving to the squadron leaders who scale around city block to multi city block level, Which is pretty impressive considering not a lot of humans get that far in terms of raw power. The royal guard is high city block level to small town level. And then we have meruem who I would put at town level before the nuke and after put him at city level to debatably city level+ but it's safe to say he was atleast city level. So this means that the continent should have creatures that could possibly be continent or even higher, considering that the hunter hunter world is way way bigger than ours. What also makes them a threat is the natural abilities they possess.

I think people always misinterpret this ranking. Chimera ants as a whole are B rank. And had the chimera ants landed literally anywhere else, they would have been found and killed immediately. It was the simple fact that they landed in an extremely remote place that doesn't document anything and was really just a huge drug operation of a government is the ONLY reason they survived long enough to be a threat.
The ants are not B because they lack strength. The ants are B because it takes them far too long to reach that strength.

One thing that you left out is that when a Kurta activates their red eyes, they do gain a boost in power overall. And to normal humans this becomes supernatural. Also racisms doesn't have to be world wide. Not every town has magic beast that can shapeshift but maybe the town that Kurapika grew up near had some bad experience where some red eye guy killed a guy in one hit.

Maybe the ship Don Freecss sailed". then 300 years later, it is overgrown with vegetation and inhabited as an island now. Somewhat of an insane random thought but the visual image of that massive whale shaped island sized ship (I mean it carries 200,000 people) with really only 1 other whale shaped island sized thing in HxH (Whale Island) just stuck with me. And Gon's house is the ONLY house on the top of the "head" of Whale Island. That is roughly where the command center of the Black Whale is located too. yes yes. crazy thoughts. but I cannot get it out of my brain :)

*INFO:* Uvogin pretty much confirms the abnormality of the Kurta Clan, claiming to Kurapika that the Boss wanted those eyes and they were really strong. Considering Uvogin almost lost himself in ectasy from his remembrance, the battle must have been really good.
For Killua and Illumi's hand transformation, there are two possibilities:
*1.* They are using the most minute amount of Aura to reshape their hand, with Killua not even realizing it is Aura.
*2.* Their Great Grandfather who visited the Dark Continent with Netero had his genetics altered in some way.
I personally think #1 is the most probable, as Killua had Illumi's needle in his head and had been exposed to his brother's Nen before. As we know from Wing-san, attacking someone with Nen can open up their aura nodes, implying that Killua could have already had it partially opened, enough to be effective as an assassin, but not enough to stunt his growth, as it is best to slowly open all of them, to maximize control, as Zushi is doing.

Plus there are other manga/literary precedents of similar storylines. In Claymore, it's revealed that the entire world as they know it is a small part of a larger whole (very similar to HxH). In Dragon Ball, they start as normal martial artists and the scope gradually expands to other planets then the universe then the multiverse. In wuxia/xianxia novels, it's common for the protagonist to be born in a weak and small area of the world/universe. Then their talent brings them to the wider arena. Plus Yu Yu Hakusho. This is a good theory I am shocked I never thought of it. How crazy would it be if in the manga(god willing it continues) Kurapika finds some of his ancient ancestors from the aboriginal Kurta clan on the DC. I don't think the original Kurta will help fight the phantom troupe but I do think this theory holds some weight and Kurapika will meet/train with them. This also ties back into the normal world. When the expedition returns, they'll bring back a 'disaster' and Gyro, a foreshadowed villain, will probably make use of the Dark continent disasters that humanity knows about to set up the next arc or two. That would be a great setup for several more arcs but who knows how long it'll take!

My problem with the theory that the Phantom Troupe killed the Kurta off some kind of grudge is that Uvogin didn't recall the Kurta when Kurapika brought them up to him. When he did remember them, he just remembered enjoying the slaughter, but no grudge or anything. I always thought the point was that the very personal tragedy of the Kurta massacre to Kurapika was just another random act of slaughter, just business, to the Phantom Troupe. That was part of humanising them in the Yorknew arc. It's also why Kurapika doesn't hate the Troupe as much as he did, because even though Kurapika wants revenge, the Troupe has no innate grudge against him, other than for the death of Uvogin and Pakunoda.

So take nothing from us!" that sounds less like what a culprit would say and more like what a victim/Kurta clan member would say. They were outcasts and yet were kind to strangers regardless if I am getting them right. So, I feel a kid must have written that note in order to maybe sway the Spiders to not kill them, but they killed everyone and then left that note as an insult?

A potential idea for another theory video is since we don’t have Togashi writing weekly (or quite frankly, yearly) chapters, could you make a video of what you think would happen if the manga were to continue forward? Such as, would they inevitably reach the dark continent, would another member of the phantom troope die, or even how you personally would like a sequence of events to play out or even rewrite the story to better fit your liking?

I remember seeing this same theory on reddit. Personally, I think Togashi plans things out (not everything). It's one of the reasons why the hiatuses have increased during the Succession War (and his health problems of course). There's a reason why he put The Phantom Troupe, Leorio, Kurapika, Hisoka, and Illumi and Kalluto on the black whale. I think he plans to have OP Kurtas thriving in the Dark Continent and Chrollo is going to tell Kurapika that the Kurtas demolished Meteor City and eat Chimera Ants for breakfast. This will lead to Kurapika having a major internal crisis. The OP Kurtas will mock Kurapika for making the Emperor Time condition, and tell him he could've been as OP as they are if he had simply taken the time to train.

Imagine after committing his entire life, down to his Nen abilities, including doing some pretty horrible things, and takes out the Troupe on the journey to the Dark Continent. Only to discover upon arrival that the Kurta clan continues on, possibly even thrives in the DC and his entire mission of revenge based on him being the last of his clan was all in vein. To be honest I kinda like the hereditary Nen thing more because it would make kurapika's clan a traditional "we have spent centuries breeding the best possible specimen" type of clan that are often quite interesting to watch in manga.
As for how it would work I'd say it could very well be that they were a hidden clan to begin with then their ancestor discovered nen and decided to make his ability to "hav a pair of hereditary scarlet eyes with special ability" and only that, you know sacrificing his nen potential for his clan. That could also explain how only a fraction of the clan had them, as it would only manifest in those who can use aura (that would also tie in how they were specially bred cause 30% of the clan being nen users is much more than the rest of the world), also it would explain the shortened lifespan thing that seem to be tied to the eyes more so than other things.
Bonus point if he did that to give his clan a chance to fight the persecutors.
