There's no right or wrong way to be Asian, and 2nd gen Asians also worry about whether they're Asian enough. We can't minimize our experiences or identities. Internalised racism will tell you you aren't Asian enough or that side of you doesn't count. You ARE Asian period, we carry the trauma and resilience of our ancestors and your pain is justified and valid.
^Yes!! Also need to add on that I realized I've been gaslighting myself my entire life and downplaying microagressions and even recently when I'd heard about increases in asian hate i caught myself downplaying my reaction to it. I'm realizing that it's such a big part of many asian cultures + WHITE SUPREMACY - telling us to keep our heads down - 'at least we have it pretty okay'. feel what you feel, your experiences and reactions are valid and you do NOT need to fit into someone else's idea of Asian or White or Mixed to be who you are

i've celebrated st. paddy's day here in southern california with my irish relatives but my goal is to one day celebrate it in ireland! i'm irish mexican but also grew up in the USA on beach towns and usually we'd go to parades, pubs, or go to irish dancing festivals. in Mexico we also have this batallion group of soldiers who helped the Mexican Army fight off the Americans, we honor them each st. paddy's and they're referred to as the San Patricios :)

I know this is a bit late but as a fellow mixed-race/Irish-Asian person I totally relate to what you said in this video. It sucks to feel like we aren’t accepted for being either race. It personally really hurt to see all the Asian hate crimes even though I know that I haven’t been as badly affected as some people. Luckily my parents made sure I appreciated both of my cultures and I can speak both Irish and Japanese yet it isn’t enough for some people and unfortunately I have just learned to accept this even though it isn’t right

As an Irish Asian teenager who was adopted into a white family it really resonated with me when you talked about not feeling ‘Asian enough’ and being really affected by the stories in the media recently and past experiences. This was the first time I’ve actually heard a similar experience verbalised and was really helpful and therapeutic almost. Thank you so much 🥰
