Audie Murphy served and fought in many different locations of the Second World War, which resulted in him being the most decorated soldier in the US army during WW2. Audie Murphy: "So, you have chosen death."
Captain America was already one year in circulation by Timely Comics by the time Audie enlisted in the army, but damn he should've been.
Audie was also incredibly humble in the To Hell and Back movie, and would constantly ask the director to tone down the action scenes that would make him look superhuman.
And there was stuff left out because Audie thought no one would believe that it actually happened
Answering the question from the intro: first Captain America comics were out before Audie Murphy joined the army so he wasn't inspiration
On the other hand he did inspire the creation of another fictional character. David Morrell based his fames character partly on Audie Murphy, Rambo. Unlike the movies the book First Blood is more about a veteran struggling with the horrors of war and PTSD, Rambo's struggle to adapt back to a civilian life put him on a collision course with a small town sheriff.
He locked himself in a hotel room until he conquered his PTSD and opioid addiction, which made him an even bigger badass.
Never pick on a short guy, he could be a bad ass soldier.😜

"To Hell and Back" was actually the highest grossing film by the studio until Jaws.
Watch To Hell and Back its great story of an American Hero Another great film to watch is Hacksaw Ridge true story of Desmond Doss the first conscientious objector to win the Medal Of Honor and man did he deserve it
The movie to Hell and back starring Audie Murphy is a must-see If you can't find it on your TV the movies are on DVD is pretty cheap buy it watch it multiple times.
Also look for some of his westerns they're all pretty good some are better than others
I remember watching To Hell and Back when i was little kid back in the 70's, it left a big impression on me and i watch it every time i see it listed on the channel guides.
