- My favorite mezzo soprano Marilyn Horne is singing Rossini's "Giusto Ciel! In Tal Periglio" from L'assedio di Corinto.
Quite possibly the most beautiful woman voice that ever graced human ear..
About the score: As you can tell I am using pdf files for my videos and there is no way to transpose the pdf scores.. So, some of my videos may not be a match.
I hope you can figure out all those scribbles over the score.. Some do match the way M. Horne is singing and some don't. But there is such variation in interpretation of this aria that I doubt there can be a perfect-match edition of this score. Specially if it is Horne who is singing:)) Also, I do not have the choir partition, but one cannot get everything one wants, right? :))
Gioachino Rossini : L'assedio di Corinto "Giusto Ciel! In Tal Periglio"
Libretto: Luigi Balocchi & Alexandre Soumet
Giusto Ciel! in tal periglio
Più consiglio,
più speranza Non ci avanza,
Che piangendo, che gemendo
Implorar la tua pietà, etc
Merciful Lord! In such peril
the only course,
the only hope which remains to us,
is weeping, lamenting
to beg Thy mercy, etc..
The sadness, the sorrow. The depth. And the soul she puts in it.
One of the most touching arias in opera this is.
My soul can almost not bare the beauty ....
Straordinaria, come sempre!
Bellissimo commento Stefano
WOW. THE CHORUS !!!
She is something to be studied for centuries to come.. No other voice moves me as her voice does.. She is matchless regardless of fach..
very beautiful
SPLENDIDA
Grande Marilyn!
Tambien es una de mis mezzo sopranos favoritas. He descubierto gracias a ti civileso este hermoso Giusto Ciel.Gracias.
Another reminder of why Ms Horne was considered one of the greatest singers of all time.
IMO, she was THE greatest.
What a voice. Ethereal.
Thanks so much for posting this. I wish I had one of these early recordings of Marilyn Horne in my music library.
Thanks! Absolutely magical, wow.
Splendida. :-)
è così che si canta rossini.!!
I was lucky enough to be with Jackie at La Scala when this opera debuted Beverly Sills as Pamina. The score was put together with parts from several extant attempts. I don't recall the names of the guys who worked on it, but it was slanted toward Jackie rather than Beverly. I have a Pirate recording done at the 1968 performances, and I attended rehearsals, the premiere, and other performances.
post it!!!!
The Opera Triple Axel alas I no longer have an LP player.
O,МУ GOD!!!
Yes. she did. At La Scala, with Beverly Sills, Justino Diaz and Thomas Schippers on the podium (April 1969).
Sublime
Is this from the 1972 recording with the Amborsian Opera Chorus, John McCarthy as the chorus master, Royal Philarmonic Orchestra with Henry Lewis conducting? The technique here is impeccable. Thanks for sharing!
Meravigliosa
to continue from the previous post,... Horne was the first choice for her role while the role of Pamira was first offered to Caballe, she declined, then to Scotto who accepted but had to bow out due to her falling pregnant and then it was offered to Sills. Mickelson had prepared cadenzas and other variations for each three sopranos according to their capabilities and what they considered showed their talents off best. The way it used to be done and fascinating too see.
Incredible control here. Sounds as if it is earlier in her career...very beautifully sung.
Çemberimde Gül Oya Hancıların Sultan sahnesinden geldim iyiki de geldim...
Hmm.. After a long search, I could only find the score for the aria alone, not the recitative..
Wow
Tienes razón Olga...la voz de Marilyn es mas que hermosa.
Oh 0:33 Wow I thought that was Mary Costa.
Dear Civileso, I was searching for the score everywhere and could not find it in the internet. Where did you find it? It would be wonderful to have it it is one of my favorite songs!
Thank you your help:)
Tanya
Quick correction- it was 1969, and Pamira!
anyway thank you very much :(
HI. I
HAVE THE SCORE AND THERE IS THE RECITATIVO AND ARIA
Did you can send me in my email please???
why? there are 3 different singers..
Wish they wouldn't add lib so much! *lol* Hard for those of us trying to sightread!
Isi vorbesc una celeilalte.
the conductor is Henry Lewis??
The person that did the revision and nearly all of the cadenzas and embellishments was Randolph Mickelson who at that time had been working with Joan Sutherland and had shepherded Caballe's Rossini rarities album. The documentation that I have seen regarding L'Assedio di Corinto at La Scala is vast and too long to go into here.
is there somebody who have the scores of this aria with the recitativo
Get them from IMSLP library.
