Woman Loses Everything in Los Angeles Homeless Sweep

- While driving around the west side of Los Angeles, we came across a homeless woman moving all of her belongings to the sidewalk. We thought that maybe they were cleaning the area, but to our shock, LA Sanitation pulled up and started to load everything that this woman owned into a garbage truck. In the last three months, Holly has had all of her belongings taken eight times.
Holly once had a great job, but after going through a divorce, her life snowballed into homelessness. Holly keeps applying for jobs, but no one wants to hire a homeless person.
We all want clean streets. We all want homeless encampments gone. But homeless sweeps and the ongoing criminalization of homelessness only make homelessness worse. With homeless numbers growing, we need to get people off the streets into housing with the help they need. We cannot arrest our way out of homelessness. In each area, a homeless sweep displaces homeless people without providing them a place to go; in a day or two, tents and shacks return to that spot.
Taxpayers pay over $70 million each year for the Los Angeles Police Department and LA Sanitation to displace homeless people under the guise of street cleaning. We all want clean streets, yet homeless sweeps only make homelessness worse! The only way to keep streets clean is to solve homelessness; however, LA's politicians continue to invest more in pushing homeless people out of sight than helping them. Homeless sweeps do nothing to help people, and they make homelessness worse.

About Invisible People
There is a direct correlation between what the general public perceives about homelessness and how it affects policy change. Most people blame homelessness on the person experiencing it instead of the increasing shortage of affordable housing, lack of employment, childhood trauma, lack of a living wage, or the countless reasons that put a person at risk. This lack of understanding creates a dangerous cycle of misperception that leads to the inability to effectively address the root causes of homelessness.
We imagine a world where everyone has a place to call home. Each day, we work to fight homelessness by giving it a face while educating individuals about the systemic issues that contribute to its existence. Through storytelling, education, news, and activism, we are changing the narrative on homelessness.
If they want to relocate people, that's one thing. But throwing their stuff out like it doesn't matter is so heartless and cruel. These people need help, not persecution. Why are we putting unimaginative sociopaths in charge of everything? Isn't there anybody with any ounce of decency and humanity in our government?

I've been homeless for about five years now and have found the only way to keep anything is to live in the nastiest and most dangerous place I could find were even the cops are afraid to go. I built me a little fort in the middle of a nasty retention swamp filled with cottonmouths and the occasional alligator. Also covered in poison ivy and Brazilian pepper trees with foilage so thick you can't see more than a few feet while traveling through it. It beats being rolled by thugs or kicked around by cops though.
I'm so sorry you had to deal with that. it's no wonder so many homeless people become addicted, what a painful life that is

My friend has lived in her car for 3 years at 69 yrs old. I have offered her to stay with me, but since she resides in L.A and I'm in Pomona she did not accept. Just recently she recieved a voucher after unmercifully calling her case worker, attending homeless court, moral support and a lot of prayer. The system sucks.

The other day, some homeless man walked towards me to my table inside this burger place and asked me if I could buy him some food. I'm here trying to enjoy peacetime alone, then his smelly breathe and clothes all went towards me, I felt disgusted 🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢 and his stench landed on my food and my clothes, I was gonna take my leftovers home because I got full. He wanted it because he seen me not eating it and guess what? I got up and walked towards the garbage can and tossed it all in there. Then he tried to reach for my food In there but couldn't because of the garbage mess in there, yuck! 🤮🤮🤮🤮
I can hear him talking crap on me and how disrespectful I was. So some dude there ended up buying that thing some food to eat, he ate it like an animal and it was pure disgusting that I felt uncomfortable around him and his buddies right outside the burger joint! I left in a hurry so he won't do anything to me or else...yeah, pretty much just messy and dirty looking. I didn't want to look at him or see him ever again in my life! That's how bad it got. Getting up in my business trying to snatch the leftovers I had. Imagine how it would of been if I just left it on the table. So I threw it away just to be an ass. Even his boy was spitting on people's cars right outside the building. Yuck as heck!! Toss em both out and the dude who helped them buy food 🗑🗑🗑🗑

I work with, an around homeless every single day. I use to feel so bad for them. We have vouchers for them, we give clothes, food, gas, furniture and yes sometimes rent for hotels or electric bills. Thanksgiving baskets, Christmas toys and dinners. So all that being said, most are addicts, most will not go for employment because of drug test for the most part. Parents that are homeless will stand an ask for food, clothes for their children, which my heart hurts for the children, but the parents have tattoos all over, that does cost some money. One of the Churches, let the homeless stay at night inside to stay out of the weather. Guess what? Only lasted for around six months. Needles, trash, and the floors were used for toilets. So that was over with. Tent encampments, are full of drugs, felons, and most of a anything else. We can build homes for the homeless, but someone has to pay the electric bills, food, taxes, and who wants to keep supporting people who will not help themselves? My mom worked three jobs in the 70s, when there was NO child's support when my dad left. My mom and three kids stood in a cheese line, but my mom wanted more for us. She worked to get back on her feet. I do believe in a helping hand, but not continue to hand out for the ones who refuse to do better. Another thing, at our place of business, we had to close the bathrooms, and dressing rooms. Floors were used for bathrooms, and cleaning the rest rooms scary, we would find needles behind the toilets and trash cans. Even our sidewalks are scary. So NO I don't feel sorry for the majority of the homeless, I do for the ones who want to get up and do something.
I live in El Cajon, a city in San Diego County. The homeless leave trash and filth everywhere. Evernight they wander through my complex and check for unlocked car doors looking for opportunities to steal. I cant get gas in El Cajon without someone begging and often demanding money. Whenever I used to offer to buy food or something non alcoholic to drink for them they would almost always refuse.
Im sad to see such suffering in your videos by people just down on their luck (but for the Grace of God) but that hasnt been what Ive encountered or witnessed in my town.

31, living in my vehicle in Ohio.
After having spent 2018-2022 in Mexico spending $200.00 on all inclusive rent, I cannot rationalize spending $1200+ for rent. Plus, if I do that, I won’t be able to save any money to eventually get back to traveling again.
For me it comes down to 1) getting a comfortable apartment and being stuck without an ability to save, or 2) living in my vehicle knowing that within a year or two I’ll have enough money to return to Latin America. Tough decision, but I’m thinking long term.
The extra thousand dollars here insures you won't be kidnapped or tortured by the cartel tho... And yes I know Mexico very well been all around there
This is why I say I wish I had the money to build a place for several homeless people to live in and so there able to try to get back on there feet but I don’t have near that kind of money and most people won’t even donate to get the money to put toured building a place like that

The fact that this happens in 2022 *_IN THIS COUNTRY_* is shameful, sad and indicative of how "unity", "togetherness", compassion, empathy and sympathy for one's fellow countrymen and women is nothing but a pipe dream and an illusion that people in govt. like to spread to make *_THEIR_* ends meet.

This is beyond infuriating and as someone who has had to experience homelessness at different times in my life and see this happen to other people, it never stops hurting. I feel like the workers are so removed from any humanity within themselves because as they may claim they're just 'doing their jobs' but what they forget is that they can be on the streets tomorrow and that's one of the things about people who support capitalism and support ant i-poverty and anti-homeless people is no matter what you do whether it is engaging in the sweeps to throw out a homeless person's valuables or you engage in the physical brutality of murdering homeless people your masters will come for you next. You think you're doing a good job you think you're "doing as you're told' until it's your turn and those workers will see how it feels. 😡
Perhaps we need to consider arming the homeless so that as they continue to be threatened in this manner or by the police or by the city they need to protect themselves don't they ? I mean other people continue to say oh well they just need to follow the rules they just need to stop being lazy and get a place to live and everything will be fine. The city governments create the problem of homelessness because the U.S. doesn't have affordable housing anywhere! The U.S. government considers a monthly income of $12,880 a year. My social security disability income is well below the poverty level. How is this possible?

De-industrilization weakens the working class, which further accellerates the de-industrilization. What I am saying is that the political elites from both US parties view the invisible people as burden instead of valuable people.
Technically, there are still over 40% of people who don't vote. A hope for the third party. Or we can have a civi war that re-structure the dis-functioning two party system. In reality, we are heading towards Cyberpunk 2077.

The current system in America cannot contain itself though so it is obvious a collapse of epic proportions is in the making in America. Ive come to actually see this as a good thing. How the f are people able to justify treating other people like this?! It's so f.ed.. It's insane. It's inane. No one. Absolutely no one is better for (things like) this. On homelessness and poverty in general: So what if she hasn't got a job? Absolutely no one should live like this unless they actively choose to decline unconditional help and income (which one should then be able to opt into again later). That and/or similar system additions/updates would make the world better. Nothing less.

I feel bad for homeless, but Cali homeless are better off than those in Texas. There is no such thing as general relief welfare in TX, no custody of minor children then no welfare in Tx, maybe only food stamps. This up until Social Security age.
Have her file an administrative claim against the city. Give her your footage as evidence. Wait 45 days for them to reject claim. File small claims suit and use fee waiver. Likely with the footage they'll settle out of court just before the trial. She can get up to $10k. Here in San Francisco they take stuff that has value and re--sell it at a flea market or take it home. The former DPW director was arrested by the FBI.

The US Supreme Court said that they can not dispose and destroy property of the homeless on public property.
