Copy and Paste Rappers

- No popular musical genre values individuality quite as much as hip-hop does. In a constant battle to have a voice, persona, or style that stands out from the rest, the occasional instance of musical doppelgangers is usually caused for scrutiny, jokes, and debate. With high-profile examples of hip-hop soundalikes including Action Bronson & Ghostface, JID & Kendrick Lamar, and Desiigner & Future, when do these extreme similarities cross the line from crazy coincidence to copy-paste music?

J.I.D is not a Kendrick copy. They're different HHM!!
@@italianstalian331 what did I do wrong for you to call me that? And you know thats a derogatory term right?
Yeah I think it’s most jid fans say he’s the next Kendrick n shit. You know Kendrick is on a different and it’s disrespectful to compare jid to him because look at his first 2 albums compared to jid. Kendrick’s first 2 are classic and 2 of the best of all time
@@kungfukennytde6065 I couldn't agree more. You can't compare the two. We just have to appreciate both artists in their own right because they're hella good
First time I heard JID on 151 Rum, I thought it was Kendrick. Not saying he's copying but there is a similarity.
@@kungfukennytde6065 Comparing JID to Kendrick is not disrespectful at all. It's an opinion.
The only reason JID reminds people of Kendrick is because of their similar delivery, they're actually nothing alike.
kendrick raps with imagery and poetry
JID raps faster and with more rhymes and completely different set of flows. The comparisons start and end at the fact that they rap with a nasally voice.

@Nathan Gold Its not just "both being nasaly". It's definitely the flow as well. When I didn't know who he was, I heard him on a verse and thought it was Kendrick. My boy who also hadn't heard him, also thought it was Kendrick on a different date.

Or are you gonna be another annoying Logic stan??
JID has never imitated or mimicked Kendrick. The only reason the comparisons exist is because they both rap fast with high pitched/nasally voices. JID raps fast over trap production and focuses more on flow changes while the beats Kendrick raps over are more varied and focuses on storytelling. And their voices are nothing alike. When I first heard JID (no disrespect) I thought it was a girl rapping.
This whole thing reminds me how when Trippie Redd came out everyone said he sounded like Uzi but now no one says that. I feel like it'll be like that for JID too.
thekickback It's just something people are exaggerating and running with. Just like with the Logic _biracial_ thing. I guarantee you J. Cole has way more bars about being biracial than Logic, but you will never hear anyone say that. That alone proves that people just take other people's opinion and run with it.
I agree with you, J.I.D doesn't sound like Kendrick.
@@BrotherMalMusic Logic for sure has talked about being biracial more than any other artists.. To the point were it got corny. When J. Cole focuses on race it's more from a political or social aspect of how Blacks are treated. Drake will seldomly bring up his mother or Jewish background n Joyner barely references being mixed at all.
Lala CrownARealOne I don't agree with that at all. I've been listening to Cole since middle school, I'm 23 now, and he has plenty of biracial lines where it's not political at all, just a witty line.
I also disagree about Logic talking so much about being biracial that it's "corny", I doubt anyone has an example. He literally does it the same way as Cole, they both just have lines here and there referencing the fact that they're mixed. Literally the only difference is that the internet chose to exaggerate it for Logic and not for Cole.
And I'm not even riding Logic, he's nowhere near one of my favorite rappers, while Cole is in my top 3. These are just facts. Memes and running jokes make people think they're actually facts when really it's just an exaggeration used so people can get a top comment.
You can have your opinion though.
@@BrotherMalMusic what are some j. cole biracial lines

While J.I.D and Kendrick may have similar voices, word pronunciation and swag differs heavily. Its and West Coast swag for Kdot and a Southern swag for J.I.D. This makes these two rappers extremely different, thats why the fan bases are almost completely different sub groups.
Where is Drake in all of this?
Kevin Andre Drake's whole style is honestly like an evolved Lauryn Hill but that's another convo. I'm guessing they're only doing people that sound alike.

This is copying one person not numerosus lyrics styles etc
Drake doesn’t copy style wise he’s got his own thing going he’s original as far as style goes he’s unique he just steals bars and concepts from other artist past and present
96NickBeats - what???
What's good. I wrote the script. To the points made about JID/Kendrick:
The title is what the title is, but the vid just shows levels of influence rappers can take from each other. The vid does not claim JID is a Kendrick clone at all, just that there are techniques of his that sound like progress on early K.Dot techniques. The two are highly unique.
Also, yes, I did dive into KTT. As much as I know of their discographies, I never would have found some of that early Kendrick w/o some help 🤷🏾♂️
Thanks for watching y'all.

A lot of people don't know that desiigner has always sounded like the way he does. There's a video of him from back in like 09 freestyling some of the lyrics made it on to the song "made it out". This was before future really starting blowing up and desiigner still had the flow and cadence he has now. The only difference is you can understand what he's saying.
Truth be told the him and future aren't terribly similar. The only thing they really have in common is the voice. The flows are different the beat selection is different and the ad libs are different.

Nobody sounds like Kendrick to me, but now I'm going to look Jid up now
Goddamn, do any of the people who compare JID to Kendrick even listen to either of their music?
Yes, JID is lyrical. But there are literally tons of up and coming lyrical rappers. JID doesn't sound anything like Kendrick in style, flow, delivery, subject matter, rhymes, jokes, anything. If you're only saying they sound alike because they're both very lyrical, you could also say that like, 15 other people sound just like Kendrick right now. Of course Kendrick has a huge influence, he's fucking Kendrick Lamar. He made one of the greatest albums of all time. But we should be calling out people who ACTUALLY copied from him, like Logic. Listen to Metropolis.
If you don't know, Metropolis not only uses the same drum sample as Kendrick's Sing About Me, it also covers very similar subject matter and utilizes an eerily similar flow, even including Kendrick's pauses and the "conversation" format of the song. If you think JID is just a Kendrick copy, you probably think that YBN Cordae, J. Cole, Joey Badass, Kanye West, and anyone else who is lyrical and raps about political messages sounds like Kendrick
Wait did you really just say Kayne West is lyrical?
