    There is absolutely nothing wrong with praying in tongues. However, some people do it in public to show off or call attention to themselves which is not appropriate. That is like making a big donation to the Church and then bragging to everyone about it. When you pray in tongues privately, you are building up your faith. This is a good thing. Not something to be frowned upon. May God bless all who read these words. Amen.

    *Early SDAs spoke in tongues*
    "Early demonstrations among the Millerites, which included swooning, shouting, and praising God with a loud voice, carried over after 1844 into the experience of those who established the Seventh-day Adventist Church, along with at least four documented experiences of speaking in tongues."

    What i mean is that GOD did a supernatural miracle that day and that in the ears of the listener so that they could understand what they where saying in tongues. The disciples did talk in tongues and the listeners could hear them speak the wonderful works of GOD all at once in their own language.

    Something we need to remember is that leading men in the Seventh Day Adventist Church are not to superseded the Bible. So we must remember that Dough Bachelor and Walter Veith or any prominent Pastor in our church are not perfect and can make mistakes. Thus so it is in the understanding of tongues.
    Firstly the Bible is clear. Secondly we have have testimony from our pioneer writings on this subject and apparent silence from EGW. Now I know most people will say EGW was silent on something therefore they will not go to the Bible to see what is truth and continue on in life not wanting to know the truth. But for those who want to know the truth, if you believe the Bible and consider this history you may be kind of shocked.
    "Brother Ralph asked the Lord, in secret, to pour out his Spirit upon us if it was His will that we should go after Brother Rhodes. {1BIO 197.3}
    The Spirit was poured out, and it settled upon us, so that the place was awful, and glorious. While I was inquiring of the Lord if He had sent His servant so far to go with me to hunt up Brother Rhodes, at that moment Brother Ralph broke out in a new tongue, unknown to us all. Then came the interpretation-“Yes, to go with thee.”-The Present Truth, December, 1849. {1BIO 197.4}
    The group knew that neither James nor Ellen White had much faith in the interest that was felt for Rhodes, and she cautioned Ralph “to be sure to get a clear duty from the Lord.” She told him that she thought Edson’s feelings for Rhodes were mere sympathy. Edson continues the story: {1BIO 197.5}
    The next morning we had a season of prayer, and the Spirit was richly poured out, and the Lord gave Sister White the following vision, which was contrary to her former opinion and feeling relating to our going after Brother Rhodes, up to the time that the Spirit took her off in vision.- Ibid. {1BIO 197.6}
    From the account of the vision as recorded in Present Truth we quote the heart of the message: {1BIO 197.7}
    While in vision the angel pointed to the earth, where I saw Brother Rhodes in thick darkness; but he still bore the image of Jesus. I saw it was the will of God that Brethren Edson and Ralph should go. {1BIO 197.8}
    Then I was shown Brother Rhodes’s past labors in the Advent cause; that he had been mighty in word and in deed. I saw him standing before the people, with the Bible in his hand, and a stream of light coming from his mouth, which found its way to the hearts of the people.... I saw that he had proclaimed the Advent with great confidence, and had shown his faith by his works, and when the time passed, the disappointment was very great.... {1BIO 198.1}
    I saw that Jesus was pleading His blood for Brother Rhodes, and that the angel was ready to enroll his name, as soon as he would come out of that dark place, and stand on all the present truth.... I saw that Brethren Edson and Ralph should make him believe there was hope and mercy for him, and tear him away, then he would come among the flock; and that angels would attend them on their journey.-Ibid., 35. {1BIO 198.2}
    Shortly after the vision, the two men started on their way to rescue Rhodes. They found him at work in a field by the Black River. They told him that they had come in the name of the Lord to get him to go with them to see the brethren and go with them into the kingdom. Again there was a speaking in an unknown tongue. Hiram Edson as eyewitness reported: {1BIO 198.3}
    God displayed His convincing power, and Brother Ralph spoke in a new tongue, and gave the interpretation in power, and in the demonstration of the Holy Ghost.-Ibid. {1BIO 198.4}
    Triumphantly, Hiram Edson reported: {1BIO 198.5}
    Brother Rhodes finally consented to come with us, and went about arranging his business in order to leave.... Friday, November 23, we returned as far as Brother Arnold’s of Volney.... They were all rejoiced to see Brother Rhodes.-Ibid.
    The account closes with these words: {1BIO 198.6}
    He stands firm in all the present truth; and we heartily bid him Godspeed as he goes to search out and feed the precious, scattered flock of Jesus.-Ibid.
    Records of the influence and work of Elder Rhodes following this experience attest to his effective ministry. {1BIO 198.7}
    One point in connection with this experience is of particular interest, namely, the coolness of Ellen White toward the demonstration of speaking in an unknown tongue. She was unconvinced until a vision was given to her directly by God that the rescue of Elder Rhodes was in harmony with God’s will. {1BIO 199.1}...
    Now do not get me wrong. The Bible is clear and I was Pentecostal for many years and came out of it. I do not endorse tongues in an unbiblical way and out of all people it makes me very very warrie as I know Satan loves to counterfeit the true and with a little bit of error Satan knows people will never accept the true... Mark 13:22 For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall show signs and wonders, to seduce, if [it were] possible, even the elect.
    It is only when there is perfect harmony with the Word of God can we have any assurance and that includes the character...

    No offense intended to anyone who practices glossolalia, however, outside of a religious or spiritual context, glossolalia is simply an advanced form of learned word-play; anyone can learn to do it. It only has specific significance in a cultural or religious context where it is part of that cultural or religious belief system.

    There was a two fold miracle first GOD gave them the ability to talk in tongues like it says in
    Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
    The second miracle was that GOD gave translation thats why they could understand what they where saying
    8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?

    Bayo Oladaye, your post was good. I'm going to summarize the situation here.
    Speaking in tongues can be in a known language. (Acts 2)
    Speaking in tongues can be a message to a congregation that is supposed to be interpreted. (1 Cor. 14:26-28)
    Speaking in tongues can be a prayer language between a person and God. (1 Cor. 14:14-15, 28)

      it is unkonwn language to people who do not understand this language..so in this case only God can understand it. It is unknown language not unknown bibrish bla bla bla that the person himself cannot understand what he says to God!

    also I would never be a Seventh day Adventist there are some things I like about Doug Batchelor. when he explained the history of worshiping on Saturday rather than Sunday historically he was correct because Constantine and the Roman Catholic Church change the day of worship. however in the history of this denomination they have tried to predict the day of the second coming which the Bible clearly says no one knows and their founder made many mistakes. their church has changed a lot and the one thing that I would never agree with is their belief in soul sleep. As a person who has been baptized in the Holy Spirit through the intervention of a Pentecostal salesman whom I met through my work I must state emphatic li the Doug Batchelor is completely wrong in his interpretation which just goes on and on. Yes speaking in tongues can be attributed in a group where the person hearing that is hearing the tongues in his own language. But Paul also talks about when we pray in the spirit or in tongues we are praying to God and an unknown time for many times we don't know what to pray for. This could be for ourselves or for someone else. We can ask God for the interpretation and it will come to us. In a group setting as in the church service there must be ordered and if someone prays out log in tongues there should be an interpretation. And yes the devil can mimic this gift of the Holy Spirit. Doug Batchelor seems to have so many items in a box. when you are overwhelmed by circumstances beyond your control praying in tongues gives you clarity and if you ask the Holy Spirit he will send this gift to you and it is for everyone for your help. When I run my 2 miles emery day in my subdivision I used to come back and send to the 700 club prayer request line impressions from seeing different people and asking for prayers for them for their needs. I did this in English. with all of the world events happening I believe we are going to be Raptured very soon. There is no reason why the believing church should go through the tribulation based on the Bible scholars have interpreted the Bible. If you have any doubt Google the name JD Farag a pastor from Calvary Chapel in Hawaii. Listen to his CZcams sermons and you will absolutely be convinced and he is a Christian of Arabic descent so he's giving you a very good deal on what's happening in the Middle East what's important is that you are saved and are ready to go when Jesus comes because everything is happening so fast in the world events

      In the context of that verse it says the gift to also prophesy to the church so they may receive edification is much greater than speaking in tonguesnin itself, unless of course you can interpret. Tongues to only edify yourself is no use in the church so we were asked to remain silent.

  • @Rayblondie
    @Rayblondie Před 11 lety

    Yeah we are not supposed to be gabbling in tongues in public. I cringe when that happens. Will they not think we are mad? Unless of course we bring a message using a different or diverse kind of tongue which would be a message from the Spirit to be interpreted. If we do happen to praise or thank in our own tongue then we ourselves are told to interpret it so the other is edified. But it is discouraged.

    These are the signs of Holy Spirit indwelling and you should have one of these evidence. Either the gifts of the Spirit, or the fruits of the Spirit will be sufficient to indicate that you have the Holy Spirit. But the Spirit will also bear witness with our spirit that we are sons or daughters of God. You cam also hear the voice of God as well.Mark 16:17King James Version (KJV)17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;John 10:27King James Version (KJV)27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:1 Corinthians 12:8-11King James Version (KJV)8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.Galatians 5:22-23King James Version (KJV)22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

  • @Rayblondie
    @Rayblondie Před 11 lety

    I think he is confusing speaking in tongues with the gift of the spirit of diverse or different kinds of tongues which is an actual ministry. These gifts fall under the heading of the manifestations of the spirit. When the gift of the speaking in a different kinds of tongues is used it can be interpreted as a message from God which is different from using our own tongue to pray or edify ourselves.

    • @meka94
      @meka94 Před 6 měsíci

      Where does it say that tongues are different? How can I know the difference between speaking in tongues and the gift of the spirit? Is it not the same?

    The New Testament has within it the new covenant, let us understand that the new covenant is the Ten Commandments written in the heart and it is found in the New Testament, now God did not write the New Testament in our hearts according to Jeremiah 31:31-34 but he wrote the new covenant in our hearts, meaning the Ten Commandments in stone is obsolete, taken away, fulfilled by the Lord Jesus Christ and since it is fulfilled it was only to last until Christ fulfilled it and then he would magnify the Law of God Isaiah 42:21 knowing we do not obey the Sabbath today for the scripture teaches we are to live by every word that came out of the mouth of God and not by every word that he wrote. Secondly the New Testament never commands Christians to keep the Sabbath day and never states we are sinning for breaking the Sabbath either. Not one scripture is given in the New Testament rather the N/T teaches we are delivered from the Law of God written in stone Romans 7:6-7 for it is the letter that kills and is the ministry of death 11 Cor, 3:3-9 let us check ourselves to see if we are in the faith or in the denominational faith which will be burned at the second coming of Christ.
