These years of Ford Focus are supposed to use Mercon V transmission fluid for the power steering fluid. It took me killing 2 pumps to figure it out. Looked like the fluid you put it was clear normal power steering fluid. That stuff will kill the new pump.

Not sure about later yrs but 2003, Never run mercon V as pwr steering fluid! manual also states plain mercon for this yr

I dont understand how she got that 4th mounting bolt out without removing the pressure line. Stupid line mounts directly in front of the last mounting bolt. I've been at this for hours, i can't get a wrench on the line because the space is too tight, and i can't get the mounting bolt out because the line is directly in the way. This is why I'm not a mechanic.

Never had any issues with mine at all, very reliable motor, had around 95k on it in 2017 when I got it, has almost 127k 5 years later!
Apart from the normal service items, changed plugs once, oil and filter every year same with air filter and 2 front tyres, part worns lol rears are still the ones that were on it when I bought it, they hardly wear on the rear.
Oh and discs and pads all round, which were very cheap, fitted nyself.
The 2.0 duratec is a solid bullet proof engine! 👌
Thing is over 5 years of owning it the value has shot up to anything up to £2.5k with these crazy 2nd hand price increases, I paid £550 for it in 2017, happy days, cheap motoring!! 😀

I want to thank everyone, the video producer and the commenters here. NOTe. Read the other comments. I found that by pulling the pulley first on the car, and taking the passenger headlight out as in the comments here, that I could use a full sized 18mm on the touchy high pressure connection. Even with the light out, it is HARD to get on the fitting with the pulley blocking the wrench. This would be true with a sawed off wrench as well. Rent the pulley puller and pull the pulley first. I loosened the three motor mount bolts on the passenger side and slightly jacked up the motor to make this easier, but I think it will barely clear even if you don't loosen the mounts. This makes it easier to get a good connection on the new pump as well and no hammer is needed. Other videos will show you how to remove and replace a power steering pulley {its the SAME as other fords, gms and dodges). Pulling the light will save you much suffering as well... I had a hard time figuring out the light, but found a hidden bolt under the fender well (take it loose as you would to access the ac charging port. I just reached in from underneath with mine) The headlight has three bolts/ fasteners on top and one under the fenderwell. You need to take the two bolts on the center grill loose as well to carefully wiggle the light out...

I want to add this in case somebody hasn't done much on this engine type. When I use the pulley puller, I first take the coolant Reservoir out of the way so that the hoses aren't in the way right where I want to use the pulley puller. Only metal should be in front of the pulley. Pulling the coolant reservoir and setting it aside and the power steering reservoir is common practice on these engines when you're working with the serpentine belt or the timing belt , alternator or the water pump. You don't disconnect the hoses to the reservoir. You just pull the mounting bolt and set it aside on top of the valve covers (you don'tloose any coolant). If you search for a video on timing belt you will see them start out this way to get things out of the way

The way you removed the high pressure line is the best way to break it , You should remove the passenger side headlight to get you wrenches in as well as your fitting wrench to remove that line and there is a puller and installer tool to remove & install the pulley. And please show the Guy doing all the important work, He is your Teacher.

Listening to the idle at 15:45, I think that you might have a bad EGR valve. It sounds a bit like it's oscillating. pull the left side off the DPFE sensor (connects to the EGR valve) and see if you can feel the pressure in the hose oscillating.

When I removed the cylinder head cover I found that it was completely flooded! I sucked the water out with a shop vac and used compressed air to make sure it was dry - removed and replaced spark plugs. I also found that the idle air control valve was bad and swapped that out. My friend hasn't mentioned any further issues with the rough idling but if it starts to go bad again I'll give that a shot!
      Thanks for the tip!

By "not small enough" do you mean "not short enough"? I have to work on mine (2001 ZX3 I bought new in Nov of 2000). If I need to buy a cheapie 18 mm to cut down so it's short enough to get in there, I'd like to have it ready. :-) Figure I might as well cut open the closed end and turn it in to a "flare" wrench. :-)

The leak was coming from the sensor, it was coming directly out of the connector pin.

I had this same problem with my 2003 Ford Focus 1.4 zetec se. I just unscrewed the leaking senor without removing anything else and filled it with chemical steel. Cost nothing as I had the stuff there. The sensor isn’t necessary as it tells the engine to increase throttle slightly when the pressure rises. I noticed no difference in how it worked after.

Best way to do this is pull the motor mount through bolt and raise the engine it gives you better access especially on the escort which is a horrible job unless you know what you’re doing ! Ford gave the most stubborn power steering pump ever 😭 after I did the job the o rim inside the line was leaking and so I had to pull the line and the return line and it’s because the bracket holds both together and you have the force the bracket off the old one to get the new line In and it’s a pain this car and the escort is just such a engineered failure 💯 most fords are 😂
