  • Welcome back to Anderson's SmokeShow! Today we have the new Camp Chef SmokePro SG24 Wifi that was sent to us by Camp Chef! We will be unboxing, assembling, and doing the burn in procedure! Stick around and see how we do it!
    I am affiliate for Camp Chef. Sales made through these links will result in commissions:

    This Camp Chef SmokePro SG24 Wifi has a bunch of great features! The upgraded controller has Bluetooth and Wifi capabilities as well as 2 temperature probes! The controller is also a PID controller that allows you to set the temperature with a +/- 5F tolerance all while setting a independent smoke setting! This pellet grill is a "SG" meaning that it has the Slide and Grill technology which allows the user to control direct vs indirect heat. Though this SmokePro is a step down from the Woodwind Series, there is no lack in quality! This grill is built like a tank and looks good in that matte black finish!
    This grill has many similarities with the Camp Chef Woodwind Wifi series. The main differences are the controller and a few finishing touches like the Camp Chef placard, bottom shelf, and stainless steel lid.
    This grill will fit well with my current arsenal of grills and smokers: Camp Chef Pellet Grill, Masterbuilt Gravity Smoker, Pit Boss 5 Series Vertical Pellet Smoker, and Weber Kettle grill.

    Just picked up new for $440 on sale. Had my 15 year old put mine together. Came back to check after 30 minutes, and he had it done and everything tight. Quick and easy assembly. The rack layout and deeper box set it apart from PB and Traeger, both solid grills. You'd have to get the next size up in either of those to have the same space.

    I got the PG24DLX from Camp Chef. Your assembly much more involved than mine. Particularly when it came to the legs and wheels. My only real problem came in installing the optional shelf. I did that, the side shelf and the lid handle all while upside down. Made it much easier for a fat old man. I have to say thank you again for the video on installing. I was going to it backwards.

    Looks like a really nice pellet smoker. I ended up buying a 36" Kinsford Pro Offset with a 18x18x18" firebox, while waiting for my Masterbuilt 1050. I am currently converting it to fully temperature controlled with a QMasterSenior and the larger 50cfm fan. The only thing I haven't got is a pellet but my best friend has a Treager I ended up buying him some Kingsford stainless wood chip smoke triangle canisters to add more smoke to his. It just seems very light on smoke flavor, but he was using Treager pellets so who knows. That Camp Chef looks very Nice, This should help new owners a lot assembling theirs.

    The biggest takeaway from this Unboxing video is covering/stuffing the inside of the hopper when attaching the lid. I almost skipped it but, thought I might as well do it just in case since it was in the video. I had no issues with the first screw but, I totally fumbled the second one. I don't know what I would've done if that screw fell in and got lost. Thanks Andrew!

    As the others have said, very helpful, and thank you very much. I couldn’t tell 100% for certain whether the top grates go into the thinner upper groove in the shelf brackets (seems to me they should, would be more secure and why else have that groove there) or just resting on top of the brackets.
    I can’t get them to fit into the grooves, seems like they are a quarter inch too wide.
    In your video, this is around the 17+ minute mark.
    Thoughts? Thanks!

    • @AndersonsSmokeShow
      @AndersonsSmokeShow  Před 3 lety +2

      There are a couple key differences. First is the stainless steel lid that’s offered with the Woodwind. The next is the colored display on the controller along with 4 probes. The last major difference is the bottom shelf that comes with the woodwind.
      Both grills are great, but I’m going to say that in my mind the upgrades to the Woodwind are nice but I can live without them and save myself $100 and maybe put that towards the sidekick or a grill cover.

      @@AndersonsSmokeShow it is cool. We looked at that version also. There are a few differences. The hopper lid is smaller. It doesn’t exceed the dimensions of the hopper to make a larger shelf area like the non Sportsman version. Also the hopper pellet clean out is different. Is has a shoot about four inches long with the trap door at the bottom. Only bummer is that, although not a huge bummer, the pellets remain in that shoot indefinitely until you empty the hopper. The non Sportsman version has the trap door inside the hopper at the top of the shoot. The glass window on the Sportsman version is nice but I wonder how long the glass will stay clear. Just a little feedback.

    You responded fast. I haven't finished watching your assembly video. Only problem I have is figuring out how to remove the safety grid. The pellets will cavitate to the auger. Without the grid it would be easier to smooth the pellets to improve pellet flow. also, after watching this Have to take the hopper handle off and reinstall. I put the rubber ring on the wrong side of the hopper.

    • @AndersonsSmokeShow

      So immediate difference with the DLX compared to the other two is the slide and grill feature. That allows you to use direct or indirect heat. So I use it mostly for searing. Besides that, the only other difference between that and the SG24 the WiFi controller and the hopper size (SG24 has a 4lb larger capacity).. which for some people the WiFi is not a big deal. I personally like it, but I only really use it on long cooks when I’m not going to be standing right there at the grill.
      Now the Woodwind is a great grill too. It has the Slide and grill like the SG24. It also has a WiFi controller, but a full color display and 4 probes as well. It also has a bottom shelf which neither of the other have. It also only comes with a stainless lid.

    • @mackfan
      @mackfan Před 3 lety

      @@AndersonsSmokeShow it's not your fault. Its just clearly a quality control issue. I did figure some things out that I hope might help others.
      1) I took the controller off and found that the antennae for the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth board was actually detached. You wouldn't notice it if you didn't peel the white stuff off to reveal it. After reconnecting it and placing my router right next to the now plugged in antenna, I was able to get enough signal to actually update the firmware. That was my issue to begin with, it only allowed firmware updates if Wi-Fi was connected.
      2) I noticed after doing the above, Wi-Fi signal was better, but would immediately drop to nearly no signal when I reattached it to the grill. This is likely because of interference from the steel box it's housed in. I decided to hook up an IPEX antenna (the ones used for laptops, basically an IPEX connector with a wire, connected to an antenna you would see on a router), and ran it out the bottom of the box and mounted it on the exterior of the grill. This improved both wifi and Bluetooth connectivity and was finally usable.
      I really hope this helps someone that might have spent huge bucks on this and expected it to work out of the box. It's a bit of trouble, but at least it works.
