Unlike chicken breeds with regular black plumage, Chinese black chickens have a unique pigmentation that makes both their bones and meat black. Currently each black chicken in China is sold for about $20 each. Although much more expensive than regular chicken, people still consume large quantities of black chicken every day.

Silkies are called Black Boned Chickens in China. These are separate variety of Black chicken. Despite that, both are medicinally equal.
