    Thanks for the review.
Question, if you please: I heard that Hamaguchi uses dialog that would be (much?) more explicit than is realistic for Japanese characters/humans. (Maybe I read in some review that he himself said this) Can you speak to that at all? How blatant is it supposed to be for Japanese viewers? How unique is this choice?
Also: after the town meeting (minute 53), we see the father drawing the two glamping reps in his notebook, above a (polluted?) river, and then he writes some words in the middle. This wasn't in any subtitles that I could find. Can you tell me what it said, and what you think of the drawing?

@@xamishia I'm sorry but I'm not Japanese and I'm not an expert in Japanese enough to just read it or listen to it without subtitles in a film

Thank you so much for this review. Like you I was astonished by Drive My Car, like you I worried that I might fall asleep in a 3 hour film (and I am around 60 years older than you, so actually a real worry any time I am in the warm and dark). Like you I never even came close to losing interest, so fascinated by the characters, drawn in by music and cinematography. Have now seen it 3 times, all at the cinema (we are very blessed for cinema in South East England). Have only seen Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy twice. The second time I took someone with me who had never been to a sub-titled or non-mainstream film- and they loved it too. We had long discussion afterwards as though characters were real. Incredible to have that effect in such short screen stories.
So I had great expectations for Evil Does Not Exist. Not disappointed exactly, but agree with you about first half hour, became invested in the middle and became confused (and a bit cross) by the WTF ending. Now I feel I have dismissed it too quickly as an interesting failure, so will probably try again.
Would be interested in further reviews from you, have you posted one for Burning? Which no surprise was a favourite with me.
Hope the exams went well. I would like to think you did really well as you demonstrate excellent judgement. Good luck with all you do.
