  • Sometimes the best plan…is the one that changes. We were driving towards Fossil Creek (Bob Bear Trail), as we can gotten a permit ($8/permit) to hike down to the famous AZ swimming hole the next day. A few weeks earlier during our AZ travels, we had passed by Lake Pleasant, which is a little north of Phoenix and were curious to check it out but didn’t have time.
    🪨 📄 ✂️ Welp, as we were about to pass Lake Pleasant again, we pulled over and let Rock, Paper, Scissors decide our fate for a few days. Lake Pleasant was the big winner!
    ⛺️ We quickly found a huge dispersed camping area on the NW side of the lake near the old airfield for Castle Rock Springs. You can easily locate this boondocking location on Compendium. We filled our freshwater tank at Lake Pleasant Regional Park for $7 near the bathrooms by the boat launch area. The roads are a bit rough and washboarded out for about 5 miles from the North Entrance of the park to the camping area (we would recommend a 4-wheel drive vehicle). There was huge campsites for group camping as well as small established sites. The one big note here is there are a ton of Burros that live here too. Lots of poop everywhere and tons braying can be heard throughout the night. They also are not very shy (probably fed by people - please don’t do that) and walked right up to our campsite several times to say hello and check for food. They are very friendly! 🫏
    🚎 The BIG problem we immediately ran into was our Champion Power Equipment 4000 watt Generator would not fire up. It was in the 90’s for the days we had planned to camp. This generator was an open-frame and bit too loud for camping near others, so in a way this situation was a blessing as we wanted to replace it eventually anyways. We ran to Home Depot and purchased a Craftsman 3300 watt inverter. We’ll tell you both the Pros & Cons of both generators during this video.

    You can buy an external extended run fuel tank and a fuel cap with a hose so that you can run the generator longer without refueling. Another thing you can do is purchase a soft start capacitor for the air conditioners so that they don’t overload the generator. If you find you need more power, you can buy an additional *inverter* generator and a combiner box so that you can have additional power if needed.

    I've seen that 3000 watts is the absolute minimum to run A/C . Wranglerstar has an old video on his channel where he made an auxiliary gas tank for a honda 2000 watt generator. You could do the same thing with a small boat outboard motor gas tank. They are maybe 5 gallons?

    Add a Micro Air Soft Start to your air conditioner..your generator will easily power it

      Yes and Yes. The Micro Air Soft Start is the only way to go. I have had them on all my RV AC's

    You probably should look into solar power there is solar power batteries that could run that rv and have that generator for back up power

    • @JohnSmith-fx4se
      @JohnSmith-fx4se Před 2 měsíci +2

      They really don’t boondock enough for the solar to be worth it. Their air conditioners are really inefficient and would be super tough to run off of solar.

      @@JohnSmith-fx4se nah there's systems that could run that air con and that whole camper do your research

      We would probably have a real issue with finding space for the batteries 🤷‍♂️
