Another skillfully executed surgery, Doc, and the patient will be even better than before!
The positive/negative motor wires get me almost every time. Also glad I'm not the only one that fights with those same LEDs.
Nice job Dave those installs are getting pretty routine nice video
You never know what your gonna find in any used engines or locomotives! I buy old and used, being a conventional runner. Thanks again
Great video. Thanks for sharing the install.
LOL four small sludgers needed to get that shell off.
Another fun video! Thnak you.
Good install and quite pleasant to watch. 73
The forward/backward thing is easy if you're converting from DC. Make a note of the motor wire connected to the engineer's side of the track (right side) - that's the motor wire to connect to the decoder orange wire.
Shrink tubing suggestion - slide the tubing on the wire before you strip it.
It’s funny how a 50-50 chance means you get it backwards 80% of the time😂!!!
I’ve had good luck using an X-acto knife with a chisel blade. It’s thinner than a screwdriver and usually one on each side gets the job done
cracking running loco dave nice job im sure you will get the direction right one day lol
I now know that if I have a decent control system, the motor wires don’t matter.
Fun stuff 👍🏻
Thanks!
Thank you Michael, that was very generous.
Wiring the Red and Black wire is easy, just remember... Red = Right, than Black will be Left.
The Orange is the (+) lead of the motor... 🙂
that's where the guitar picks would have made that heaps easier Steve
Nice job Scott...do you have an electrical background or is this just experience. When you had trains for the kids did you do all of this experimental stuff or is this all just recent
This is all new to me, although I did wire my entire hot rod.
that's really cool you can do this and do a web show on top not sure I would have the confidence to do it, but if you never try you never know keep up the videos i enjoy watching them
I don't know if it has ever been a problem. However, with those thin wires, I don't like using the soldering iron to shrink the heat shrink tubing. I'm afraid it could cause the solder joint to loosen up inside the tubing. I always use a heat gun instead. Anyone have any thoughts about this? Thanks.
The way I figure, if it’s not hot enough to burn the tubing, it’s not hot enough to melt solder.
Reasonable assumption. @@ScottRails
The heat goes into the heatshrink first plus the movement of the soldering iron prevents heat being concentrated in a single spot.
Another good point. I'm changing my mind. Thanks. @@maltnz
