First, thank you so much for everything you've posted. I got into this hobby only in the past year, I love it, and you're the one who taught me how to paint. Second, in a lot of your recent posts (such as your Crisis Protocol tutorials) you haven't including a shading step like you did in most of your older videos. Instead, you seem to have started with a darker base color and highlighted up from there. Why the change in technique, and how do you chose which method to employ? Thanks again!
Thanks a lot! That really depends on the level I'm aiming for; I might use Shades more often to paint things quickly to an OK table-top standard, but when I'm aiming for something higher I prefer the more controlled approach of highlighting up from a dark base tone. :)

defo getting into this game this year really like the game play and models plus your tutorials are a great help to work from but i will try not copy exactly as i just mostly use things online for a reference :) but at the moment ive a few bits for Black Stone Fortress to finish a black legion 40k army to finish off and a couple of Word Bearer units to add to my Main army that is 30k and ive decided to do a loyalist 30k Dark Angels Army and also got to re do My Masons Team for guild ball as i bought the new sculpts that came out oh yeah and ive got blood red sky's to do with my son from warlord games lol
Thank you so much for another great video and a new idea to incorporate into OSL techniques (blending into highlight to create localized highlights affected by the light source.) For leather you may want to try a Zandri dust base coat and then go over it with contrast Gore-grunta fur. Looks pretty good. Saw it on Lockwood's Workshop. Pretty good effect and easy for beginners to do too.

I think that it would greatly add to his facial expression. I have watched all of your videos and always look forward to the next one. How often do you use a red toned wash for the corners of eyes? Do you think it overwhelms the eye at this scale?
Hi Dennis! I may have placed a very slight accent on the eye brows, but it's very tricky to pull off as if they're even slightly too thick it can look crazy, so I don't always suggest it for a model of this scale. I also wouldn't try reddening the corners of the eyes when working at this scale - but for a bust; yes! :)

Turned out amazing, as usual :) Having the gradient on the blade turn from a colour to white portrays the glow effect from the movies beautifully. Are you going to stay consistant on having the white end be closer to the hilt or are you going to try it the other way with another mini? I think it’d look better the other way around, even though there are reasons to argue it to be as it is here on this mini. Maybe I’m taking it too seriously, but the lightsaber is an important detail :D
Hey Sorastro! I tested painting the gradient of the lightsaber the other way around and I didn’t get it to look good. It’s better the way you have it :D Might seem obvious. I just really think that there might be a even better way to mimic the effect. A coat of something or something else. Oh well... I suppose there are heavier topics to ponder on at the moment. This was super helpful (Im getting the core set this week) Quick question. If im looking to skimp on flow enhancer can I thin the customer armour mixture with more medium or just water? (I realise you posted this ages ago but any advice will be appreciated. I would leave the enhancer out all together but Im concerned the ratios would be thrown off. Or what are alternatives cos hen I search for it its all, air brush flow improver.

I did my B1s up after seeing your video on them; however I went pure white as opposed to attempting a zenithal- I want to add some edge highlighting to their bodies. Could you give me a citadel paint suggestion for that? They just don’t feel complete to me without edge highlights! ^^* thank you for your time and hard work again!
Ha ha - thanks! For an edge highlight for the B1s I'd be tempted to use white mixed with something like Karak Stone or Zandri Dust maybe, and adding a little silver (Stormhost Silver or whatever) is also an option.. 😀

Hi Piotr! I actually love the pose they've given Kenobi here. Regarding what minis I choose to paint, I actually only take on a very limited amount of commissioned work (namely the Legion videos), and the rest are crowd funded via Patreon, which means I still get to paint the games that I (and my patrons) are most passionate about. And although the minis look pretty cool, Rising Sun just never quite made it into the top 3-4 games that I like to cover at a time. :)
Aargh that's annoying! I'm going to be trying some non-Kolinsky brushes out soon actually, and will be keeping my followers updated on social media.. :)

Thanks a lot Matt! I usually use a nice matte varnish (the AK Interactive Ultra Matte Varnish) 😀

Hi! I wouldn't worry too much about it tbh; you can just thin with a little extra Contrast Medium :)
