having and raising babies the old fashioned ways

  • This week I'm answering your questions about all things baby! These days there are so many options and decisions to be made in regards to having and raising a family - too many options if you ask me! Many of my choices are considered unconventional today, but a couple hundred years ago and for all of history before that, they would have been the norm. We've made progress in some ways, but we've lost ground in others. Let's talk about it!

    Information on circumcision: www.yourwholebaby.org/
Should Christians get circumcised? Link: media.ascensionpress.com/podc...
"Today, while nontherapeutic male circumcision remains common in some places, as a general practice it is forbidden in Catholic teaching for more basic reasons of respect for bodily integrity. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states, “Except when performed for strictly therapeutic medical reasons, directly intended amputations, mutilations and sterilizations performed on innocent persons are against moral law” (N. 2297).
Elective circumcision clearly violates that standard. It is an amputation and mutilation, and, to my knowledge, and as you note, no significant medical group in the world defends it as having any therapeutic value. In 1999 the Council on Scientific Affairs of the American Medical Association stated that neonatal circumcision is nontherapeutic because no disease is present and no therapeutic treatment is required."

It has to be super nice and super allll...but not everyone is this lucky. If they give a birth in hospital, there is a reason. I bet many of the hospital birth moms (myself included) wish to do otherwise...there are so many circumstances that can't be ignored and makes the pregnancy not as written in the fairytales unfortunately

    • @MrsMuffin11
      @MrsMuffin11 Před 3 měsíci

@@PapirmacskaI gave birth in a hospital and I had the best L&D nurse and midwife. I was low risk and requested to not have blood taken or even be given an IV. All I had to do was sign a paper saying the hospital wasn't liable in case of emergency if they couldn't find a vein and yadda yadda lol. My L&D nurse was so helpful in getting me to move around, walk, try different positions on the ground, birth ball, in the shower, in bed, EVERYTHING to keep labor going and make it easier on me. My midwife literally sat at the edge of the bed and waited for me to push, never instructed, never asked to check dilation, NOTHING. it was amazing. I finally had to ask her if she could check me and make sure I was at 10cm to push and she said ya, I was just waiting for you to ask 🤣 she had been chilling for 20 minutes by this time haha
After birth I was given the golden hour, my nurse actually told me I needed to wait another 10 minutes when I asked if she could weigh the baby and take vitals 😅 I was at a hospital that prioritizes natural birth and breastfeeding and it was an amazing experience. For my next birth, I will be going back. At home births honestly scare me a bit, even though I know they are the most natural way to go. I'm just not comfortable 🤷
Just sharing my experience so that people see that some moms DO wish to have a hospital birth AND can also immensely enjoy the experience when they have the right caregivers 🩵🩷
If there's any one in Phx, Az reading this comment, who WANTS to have a natural, unmedicated birth, but feels more comfortable in a hospital setting literally 30 seconds away from an operating table in case of emergency, I strongly recommend St. Joseph's. Let them know your birth plan and demands and they will accommodate. The staff is so amazing 🩷

As someone who has had circumstances of emergent nature, being at the hospital saved my life. Every woman is different. I have friends who have done home water births and that was right for them. Hospital has been right for me. Sepsis and transverse positioning can be life threatening from home, so I’m so glad I was in the hospital. Every child is a blessing. And every woman knows instinctively what is best ❤ Look forward to your lifestyle / day in the life content… sounds to align well with the calmer, intentional ways I enjoy too.

@@HopewellHeights About your hair care, I do something similar! Once a week washing, 1 whole egg or 2 egg yolks as a shampoo (only wash in cold though or you will end up with scrambled eggs in your hair!) , rosewater tea (or rosemary tea) as a leave- in rinse. I also rub in 2-3 drops of sweet almond oil into my hair after a shower. Makes your hair stay soft and not become brittle! Also prevents hair ends from splitting and breaking. I have hip-length hair now as a result! :)

You and baby are just lovely! You would make an excellent traditional midwife…women need more wise-women to support them. A side note on shoulder dystocia-I just birthed my daughter a week after you. She was born with a nuchal hand which caused her shoulders to have a little trouble coming through. My body knew just what to do before I was even aware of the nuchal presentation. The difference is allowing that inner maternal wisdom to speak instead of someone on the outside telling me what to do. I know if I were in a hospital they would have cut me wide open…but because I listened to my body I birthed my baby just fine!

I know one thing for sure I like birthing in peace, and birthing in the hospital is not that. I’ve had intervention after intervention in my hospital births and will forever have that first c-section held over my head, midwives where I’m at will not work with me. I’ve had to unlearn and relearn which led me to unassisted birthing. I’m glad the hospital is there for the woman who need it which is very few. In an ideal world woman would continue trusting in their instincts and self educating on the power their bodies have and hold. God bless and congratulations.

I was extremely scared and felt the hospital was the safer option. 17 hour labor for my epidural to run out at 8 cm and the anesthesiologist being stuck in an emergency c-section. I love listening to you educate on this topic! While I am well beyond my child-bearing years - I love that you are a voice to this natural and beautiful way. Interestingly enough - I think much of this advice applies to life in general not only to child-birth (ie listen to your body, educate ourselves, don’t have certain expectations of exactly how something is going to go as that sets us up for an unpleasant experience). Great advice for us all!❤

Thank you for this video, I am so inspired by your clarity and succinctness. My children are third generation home births with no immunizations. My family was always seen as so “out there” but I have high hopes that this kind of mother/infant care will be the norm when my daughters are birthing. Thank you for using your platform to help make that possible! I will definitely be sharing this video as a resource for new moms.

Well done! I work as a birthkeeper for nearly nine years now. I supported a mother who chose free birth last year who did have a shoulder distocia. I made a suggestion for a position change, which she did, and the baby was born with the next contraction. Ive also attended mothers who had postpartum haemorrhage and have always been able to transfer to hospital calmly and efficiently. In each of these cases the mothers did not regret their choice to freebirth and felt it was a wonderful experience despite the complications. Most of the time, free biryh goes smoothly. Each of my ownchildren were born without assistance and nocimplications.

I heard from a lot of ppl that they had issues finding a pediatrician, etc if their child would not be vaccinated! The industry really tries to push their agenda on us in many different ways! I am happy to see, that it’s still possible to live a drug free life! All the best to you and your family! Please share more of your knowledge as a mum! You have a new follower! Thank you for covering the manifesting birth topic, I feel like it's the new age faith and we are not able that. The SIDS topic I'm right there with you, my one son had the side effect bronchiolitis from the Dtap every time and struggled to breath at night and my other son stopped breathing almost immediately following the vitamin k injection (I didn't know it had a black box warning 💔). I never want my baby away from me at any moment. We co-sleep (mommy side only), use a carrier, and a pack n play once a baby is older. That first year is so important to have a baby attached to you.
Bless you for this video. Thank you.

Pregnant with number eight and I resonate so much with everything you are saying! I always tell people that there is an inherent risk with every birth. It's part of the punishment due to original sin. However, if you choose to have your baby in a hospital, everybody thinks you are doing the best you can. If you have a home birth, even though it's not fair, you would take more than your share of the blame if anything happened. I think that's something to consider when choosing where you give birth. I personally absolutely love giving birth at home with my wonderful midwife there to support me

I never make comments but just had to say -- YES!! To everything, and especially this part -- "Lord, let your will be done. Whatever you have for me, give me the strength, the endurance, the patience... " Not manifesting. Just like Jesus asked for his cup of suffering to be removed but still, "Thy will be done." So refreshing to hear. Thank you for all you do -- you've already changed this small homestead family in more ways than one. (Made more of your laundry soap today :) Love the Rowens

I just adore these videos of yours and all the golden nuggets. I know how busy you are I appreciate you sharing your time and knowledge. I am currently experiencing my very first miscarriage. This would have been baby #4. I was 8 weeks. It’s been a difficult day for sure with tears on and off. My nutrition is the best it’s ever been, I am happier than I’ve ever been, enjoying motherhood and homemaking more than I ever have; just overall content and healthy; not perfect by any means but just much more improved than my previous pregnancies. I was so excited to gift this little one the health of my body and soul. This would have been my very first homebirth and I was excited to experience it, and to grow this little one, to trust my body to carry and care for this little one, to nurse a newborn again, and for having the opportunity to point them to Jesus. It’s an odd feeling. I keep thinking how did my body fail me and how did I fail this little one. Then I have to silence the thoughts and remind myself it was His will. I will trust in Him and one day meet them in heaven with Him who saves but I am still heartbroken. I will heal and move forward and I am very excited to offer my body to the Lord again and to try to conceive again. I turn 40 in May so my child bearing years are coming to a close and that in itself is a new feeling to bare. I genuinely enjoy motherhood and homemaking. So I will hold on to and cherish these moments until it’s time to move on. I’m very thankful I stuck with nursing my two year old; it’s helped immensely with comfort and with healing my body. Thank you again for sharing this heartwarming and knowledgeable content in a time when I need it so much.

You are truly inspirational. My husband and I only have two children and we don't go out or have hobbies outside of our home and kids. Everyone says we need to get out and have time to ourselves but we don't even have that desire. I own my own massage business so I am able to set my own hours when my husband is off work so that one of us is always home with the children. Financially, we just can't afford for me to stay at home which means I am not having anymore kids sadly.

I was so grateful when you mentioned that rid bit on vaccines in your last video and even more so watching this. My kids are 7 and 16 at this point so I don’t necessarily need this video, this isn’t my time of life, but I love listening to the way you explain things. I homeschool because it’s CA law now to be vaccinated. I felt heavily when I was pregnant (after miscarriage) that I would not vaccinate. Even 8 years ago, this was still very taboo. I was laughed at and mocked by numerous people for years.

@@HopewellHeights Thanks! It was absolutely worth it! We nursed for 18 months! The longest I had ever nursed any of my babies. It only ended because as an L&D nurse in a severely understaffed unit, I was unable to take breaks to pump, which dried me up. I'm hoping and praying that after maternity leave, I can stay home (currently expecting #4).
