@@49ers.for.life.lorax.slays.Same, it reminds me of the one bobby-pin that’s still left in my hair after a performance…..for like two days after 😂(every ballet dancer knows, what I mean 🥲)
@@annaluciaschmitzreal 😭 i can never get it out whatt
Omg I wanna see Josephine in a pointe shoemaker shop getting a full tour and making her own!
I loved the baby.
Yesssss, you know hers would be PERFECTION since she understands dance, the dancer, and more importantly FEET and issues with feet!!!!
6:05: as a violinist I gasped. It was surprising to see someone crush rosin like that… I guess the string players have a place to donate their busted up rosin now lol
That was my reaction too!!
When I was in middle school a good half of the dancers in my class also played violin or Viola and would bring their broken rosin blocks to the studio
SAME 😅
That's funny because we use to actually collect it in an old shoe box from the music hall. lol
Same! 🤣🤣🤣
I cannot tell you HOW BADLY I want to see a full hour long video on Josephine learning to make pointe shoes! It's literally only a suggestion at this point(e heehee) and I'm already HOOKED. I come from a family of jewellers, it's so freaking cool that the shoemakers have their own stamp, just like a hallmark 🤩
I love that you inserted a ballet pun into your comment 😂💖
That little Esmeralda has to be an old soul who was a ballerina in her past life. The precision and control she has there is other worldly even for a child who trains every day. I just hope her instructors do not put her in Pointe shoes until she is several years older for the sake of her feet! When she gets there though, she will be one of the best out there for the time!
I'm willing to bet the little girl dancing Esmeralda has dancers in the family, if not her own parents. She is SUPER impressive!
Her name is Ileanca Bedac, she was 7 years old, she's Romanian.
Her name is Ileanca Bedac, she was 7 years old, she's Romanian.
@@Caroline-jt6ez The name is Ilinca Bendeac.
I see a lot of tears in that child's life.
I can’t even do that at 16
Josephine calling a recorder a clarinet was my cups as pointe shoes moment :o
Literally though that hurt me inside
i felt like i was going to melt 😭😭
- an ex recorder, now flute player
Real oml😂
For a second that tiny little girl at 2:51 tricked me into thinking she was in point shoes and I thought to myself that she was too little for that! She was so good!
No because like she's not even 8 and I've been dancing for 8 years and she's better that me its just so sad😭
I watched that clip with that ballerinas dancing on the church building and I was like... "wait, I recognize that glass stain window" so I looked up some images and I was correct. So I can inform you that the clip was filmed in Aarhus, Denmark (specifically they are dancing on the side of the bell tower of Aarhus Cathedral) and the performers are from a Spanish ballet company called Delrevés who specializes in "vertical dancing".
2:59 - Josephine is amazed by how cute and how good. I'm over here hoping someone isn't making the child train for 8 hours a day 😱
She seemed a little worried about that too
that is for sure what is happening. i found it a bit disturbing how often she said, the child is talented. while it's more like, that child is well trained. it's child abuse.
VERY DISTURBING (early burnout predicted)
From a Romanian news article, it says that Ilinca started dancing 2 times a week four years ago. Now she goes to the studio every day, has individual and group ballet lessons, gymnastics (hence the flexibility and strength in jetes) and contemporary.
She is definitely talented. There are just some things that not all 7 year olds can do no matter how hard you train them. In Dance Moms, Mackenzie and Lilly definitely danced a lot and were highly flexible but both couldn't do a grand jete at that height and with
So what people do not realize with a talent like that I I guarantee you wasn't all just the parents I bet you the child is deathly in love with ballet. I know that's all I dreamed of from the time that was like five and I saw a ballerina for the first time on TV all the way until I was 18 and I had to get a real job. No one could have stopped me from putting on those point shoes and getting out on that stage I wanted to practice 6:00 to 7:00 hours a day. I wanted to and I was going to do it whether I was tired whether I'd other obligations whether it meant that I didn't get to spend time with people I was going to do it.
That little girl is already on a professional level! Wow!!
I know right
She hurts my ego and is so much younger than me, adorable tho, I hope she keeps dancing tho!
The dancer saying "I think I danced to this." is me with the carousel music boxes. Every now and again I listen and go "I think I played that." 😅
Watching the pointe shoes being made... ❤ Thank you for saying how physical making the shoes is.
I have those moments with songs, especially sung by choirs in Latin. I can remember all of the words but not the title nor where I may have sung it before. It's an odd feeling.
8:20 Just to clear things with everyone and Josephine, these little girls are undergoing a really painful part of moving to pointe shoes, this skill is more commonly learnt is Japan because there are a lot more children willing to learn ballet. So basically to explain what is happening in this video, is little girls standing on their toes, having their toes curled up underneath their feet and walking on them. To master this skill, these girls would have to be able to walk like this for an extended period of time.
And I see you made a comment on the comfy looking socks, this is because they have to wear something under their toes for comfort and pressure expansion so their tiny little toes don't break under their body-weighted stress. This skill is taught to have them learning to point their toes properly and to simulate what pointe shoes are to feel like, so they introduce and master this skill early in ballet so they can get used to it whilst they weigh less than if they were older.
I hope this clears concerns, and I also hope this makes sense. ✨✨
Omg thank you for explaining
Thankyou for explaining
I was looking for a comment like this.
But that is not how pointe work, though. Curling and crushing your toes under your body weight does not help you to learn how to properly pointe your toes nor how to work your toes in a pointe shoe. It surely grants a great deal of passive flexibility in the metatarsals, but once again, not really useful for pointe work. Maybe useful for RG, not for ballet.
Ahh thank you! But what is the name of this torture device? I would like to search more about it it’s really interesting
So i researched who the kid in 2:54 is. She is Ilinca Bendeac and she is 7 yo at the moment.
Best to you all ❤
Thank you!!!
Yes. Thanks for researching that. All ballet fans watching this now will be looking out for her in a few years.
@@lydwinaofschiedam2685Yeah, need to put a note in my calendar for Prix de Lausanne in 8 years when she’s 15!
SHE MAKES ME LOOK TALENTLESS
I have also seen that video of the baby Esmeralda. The wee lass has no business being this good.
The girl doing the esmeralda solo was competing in the Alana haines dance competition which is held in New Zealand every 2 years. The red background shows that it is the finals. It is very famous in NZ and dancers from Australia come too. Only 120 dancers can do it an there are set variations to learn. Also love the video ❤❤❤
5:28 The child playing Suzume no tojimari on the flute was the best thing I've seen today😂
It's a recorder :) Thanks for the song name though!! Imma look it up.
@@sl33pw17h4ng3l5 A recorder technically is a flute
YES I KNEW IT WAS SUZUME I WAS LOOKING FOR A COMMENT SAYING THIS
THAT CHILD IS EVERYTHING
I watched with my jaw dropped ☠️
When my daughter was a baby we watched a lot of ballets. I have a video somewhere of her applauding at the end of one of the fairy variations in Sleeping Beauty and then trying to mimic the dancer in the next variation.
While wearing a pink onesie with a strawberry on the butt.
3:36 literally- I’m 16 and I’ve been doing ballet for 12 years and this child is better than me help
That little Esmeralda ❤ isn't only very talented (and appears to be enjoying what she does!), she must have incredible teachers too. She gets all the little nuances right, in fact, this is one of my favourite performances of this variation and I have seen plenty! 😍
Ilincana bendeac from Romania. She’s very skilled and talented!
That toddler that mimicked the dancer on the telly had the opposite energy of how I was when I was a kid. Mom told me that when I was about 4 the was a river-dance show on the telly, and I was leaning against the table watching it, and suddenly I said "I'd never have the energy for that" lmao (slightly paraphrased cause translation)
Missy I don’t do ballet, I don’t go watch ballet, I don’t have kids that ballet but I can’t resist watching you cause you are so sweet and kind. Never a bad word . Just sweetness to all . Everyone could learn from you .❤❤❤❤
I forgot my knee-high black spats for a competition once, and someone found black electrical tape and taped up my legs so we would all look the same. I lost circulation to my feet, and by the end of the 6 minute number, I barely had the strength left to get my legs up in the air.
😳😬
I wasn’t expecting this to be so engaging.
For example, the young girl… I can only appreciate cuteness for 2 seconds… but her TECHNIQUE! And your reactions!
I’m going to follow you.
The last segment of the last dance reminded me of my dance instructor. I asked her for a primary role as the Snow Maiden and she replied yes. It was magic. She was happy with my performance and much to my delight, so was she. Such good memories.
I remember seeing a video of that little girl dancing Esmeralda a few months ago! From what I read in one of the comments on there she's only SEVEN YEARS OLD?!
whoa! do you have a link or search details?
Oooh, I guessed right! She probably started young and is on the shorter end for her age. She's amazing!
Yesss. She is missing her front teeth! Oh the cuteness! and the Talent!
But does she know how to do basic math or any subject 😮 the amount of time I bet her parents have her train is not right
I genuinely died when I saw the Rosen as a cello player seeing them just step on it kills me! 😮😅
2:58 Such props though for keeping the kid in age-appropriate footwear instead of pushing pointe shoes on them before they’re developmentally ready even though they’re so advanced
I seem to remember reading in the legendary Maria Tallchief’s biography that she (and perhaps her sister Marjorie) were almost ruined by their first ballet teacher putting them in pointe shoes way too young.
When they switched to a different, better studio, the new teacher was *furious* to know they’d been allowed en pointe at the old one. The new teacher made Maria and Marjorie switch back to the slippers for a few more *years* before even thinking of letting them go onto pointe again.
It’s been almost 50 years since I read that book (I’m turning 58 this year) - but that still sticks out in my memory after a half century.
I never got that far in ballet but I love these videos . Thanks Josephine and the countless ballet dancers that did the tiktoks
I love watching variations of Esmeralda, and that child is amazing!
My mum used to do tap on point when she was 14 yrs old. She’s 79 now. Still loves ballet xx
I've never danced ballet in my life, nor do I know any dancers, but I love this channel. The other day I was on the bus I regularly get home from work and as I looked out the window I saw a building that said Freed of London and thought "I know that name! I've heard Josephine talk about them!" so I guess I'm a person that knows ballet shoe companies now?
I'm not a dancer, I'm 100% not built for it, but for some reason I'm addicted to these videos
Your reactions are always so fun to watch and also
informative.
Just as a side note about child dancers, Shirley Temple was three years old when she started dancing and by age six was considered a master tap dancer.
Her duet with Bill Bojangles in The Little Colonel is something to see.
She was six years old!
(Sorry for the rave)
I’d be willing to bet that if you put out feelers to the makers you could score an invite to make a pair!
the weird training is Chinese teachers making kids walking on their toes, like on pointe but without the support of point shoes, but the joints hurt so they wear socks to prevent the brusing.
Poor kids are gonna grow up with walking problems. Not worth it. They're gonna have a limp.
That's harsh!
they gonna have feet problems along with spinal issues
There I was thinking it was mildly amusing that they looked like old fashioned Chinese ladies who had bound feet, but now I think I'm going to be sick.
Coming from a country that, for a millennia, routinely bound the feet of little girls until the practice was finally abolished for good around 1911. This training seems crazy cruel, but I’ve seen the way they “help” tiny gymnasts do the splits, too. Pain, pain and pain. Just cruel.
Josephine is so disappointed in us pointe dancers lol 😂
I love how proud dancers are to be dancers. Forever taking the relaxing stand, even as a retired child mediocre hobby ballerina 😂😂😂🤌🏼🤌🏼🤌🏼
I think at 8:35 they are walking on the knuckles of their toes (if that makes sense). Think the big socks might be for padding. I know some rhythmic gymnasts practice walking like that and some other places teach it.
Ah thanks
The instrument the boy at 5:48 is playing is a recorder.
The little girl around 2:30 is very impressive but the only thought in my head was "Is she ever allowed to relax and have any fun or is she in rehearsal 23.5 hours per day?"
Surely there are other dances she can do that are a little more appropriate for her age??!
@@katherinemurphy2762 most likely it was chosen to show off the child's amazing flexibility. I don't know many dances that have high kicks in them other than Esmeralda's.
My first impression when seeing this video was "wind up key doll"
yeah its bad. i think this level of child abuse should not be given a platform.
I was hoping channels like this would break the stereotypes about all ballet dancers having eating disorders and being beaten like cattle in order to be successful, but I guess you can't get through to everyone.
I really want to see her reaction to that one episode of Supernatural with the haunted pointe shoes 🤣
Omg! What season and episode was that? I haven't seen much past season 6.
@@SimpleDesertRose It's season 7, episode 16. The shoes aren't a huge part of the episode (basically one of several haunted objects they're tracking down), but Dean does take a certain liking to them 🤣
@@propio2957 lol that hilarious. Thanks ❤️
@@SimpleDesertRose I think she'd be torn between traumatized and admiring the dance moves, which is the perfect combo for these videos, lol
@@propio2957 does Dean get out some serious dance moves while Sam huffs and pouts? I stopped watching after Robert Singer stopped writing. It felt like every episode Dean would be out picking up women and Sam would huff and pout and Bobby would be yelling at them and Cas would just hang out and be stupid for a while. I heard it got better for a while after season 6 but I never made it that far.
As a child athlete...whenever i see an amazing kid like that my heart also hurts for them because i know what we went through to get that good...
omg at 5:05 that’s mr leonid he teaches at the royal winnipeg ballet school
2:42 the little smile LOL!!!😂
Omg! The forgotten hairpiece gave me flashbacks to the time my dance team was doing a parade at an amusement park. We got to spend the day at the park beforehand. But when we were changing, I, for a truly panicked 30 second, thought I forgot my uniform shorts. (Luckily I just put them down somewhere weird but I almost had a heart attack.)
3:43 she really went from "oh My gOd sO CUTE" to " what the f-"😂
Motivated to gear up after putting the shoes aside for 40 years. Shout out to On Stage in NYC for helping this old girl get her gear on.
Had to laugh at the "I just stand like this". I apparently stand like a dancer. I have never danced XD I've had several people, including my daughters dance teacher, ask if I danced when I was younger. Nope, I literally just stand like that!
Funny, your comment reminds me of all the times I was asked about my running training. I had never run but my quads were so naturally prominent that I got asked All. The. Time. if I was a runner. I finally started running since I was already looking the part, lol
6:15 it’s cool to see how the same thing is used in different arts! Rosin like that is used in orchestras on our bows!
OMG i just got PTSD from the "forgot the hairpiece" clip! LOL!!!
This is a great video! As a non-dancer/coordinated person, I find the poise and grace so fascinating.
It’s also interesting to see ballet dancers doing routines to other styles of music.
Regarding the little girl in the black and gold tutu: do not conflate skill with talent. While it is entirely possible to be talented, it will still take a tremendous amount of effort and time to become this good. She's so good that while I applaud her skill, I worry that she has outside forces pushing her further than is truly healthy for one so young. Dancing, particularly ballet dancing is extremely hard on the body.
Seems to be a very common practice to stand "pointe" that way, since I've done this at ballet classes through all my childhood
I’ve never come across this being taught in school before? If you don’t mind sharing, what country are you from? The ankle, foot & toes aren’t in the same position as they are when en pointe, so it really has no valid use I can think of off the top of my head? It just seems the dangers outweigh any benefits it may offer. Did the teacher tell you why you were doing it? Or does anyone else know? I’m curious to know the reasoning behind it?
Stahhhp, the ballet boy’s were sooo accurate 😂😭😂I’m crying and laughing at the same time
That was so much fun, made even better for me, because we seemed to pull the same faces at the same time! That wee ballerina was EXTRAORDINARY. I struggled to convince myself that it wasn't adult legs photo-shopped onto a child's body. 😊
3:45, that’s not “talent” that’s a kid who’s been drilled in those dance moves to the point of perfection. Not sure if healthy but definitely beautiful.
I think there has to be a level of talent there too though. I'm not sure most children could be drilled into that level of control.
Definitely some of both
My thought exactly, this screams of overly ambitious parents forcing their child to train every minute of every day instead of having an actual childhood. Is that healthy from a physical standpoint, probably. From an emotional standpoint, hell no.
@@pinkpanda5696 If their parents are determined and frankly cruel enough, they can drill their kids into pretty much anything they want. Especially in countries where homeschooling is a thing so they can have full control over their child 24/7.
My old dance teacher competed at Miss Dance in the 60’s with a jump rope toe tap routine ... in a strapless costume.

I would like to start a partition for Josephine to react to figure skating tiktoks!!!!!
IM FIRST OMG HIIII❤ I literally live ballet and have been doing it since i was 3 (im 15)
Me too!
My problem with shrinkflation is that so many companies are raising prices and making things smaller. Most parents already work their butts off to take care of their kids, and this just makes it harder and harder. Especially here in America. I still have all basic needs, but my mom is applying for a second job right now because of how bad inflation has gotten. And back then, we were able to buy more fun treats but now it's only the necessities. Guys, be thankful for what you have..
0:20 I do not and never has thought this 😭 CUS IN SOCCER OR ANY SPORT I WILL BE THE WEIRDEST FOR NO REASON

Hi Josephine I just started pointe 2 weeks ago! These videos make me laugh so hard as I am a dancer!❤❤❤
2:50 The little girl is called Ilinca Bendeac, 7 years old from Romania. She has done Cupid, Graduation Ball and Kitri as well and the videos are on CZcams.
no child should be this talented😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂puts every teacher out of work; so baby we’re done, next week Swan Lake!!!!
girl like ur my Idol now! I never seen someone that beautiful ^^
It’s ironic that so much precise craftsmanship goes into the making of pointe shoes only for them to be altered, broken in and quickly discarded by the dancer.
I would love to see a video of you touring a pointe shoe factory and giving it a go!
The ballroom one is so accurate tho! I'm a ballroom dancer and I literally chacha walk or rumba walk everywhere!

The walks!…so accurate and so funny!
Best one ever...That little one that was using the tambourine, I've seen adult ballerinas do that not half as good. Really enjoyed this video...looking forward to the next one. ❤😊❤
My first pointe shoe was made by a maker so perfect for my feet that I didnt have to tape my toes (and I have a roman second toe) at all as long as I always bought the same maker's signatured pointes. Then Gamba removed individual maker marks and my toes blistered and I lost toe nails despite taping them. The pointe then was never narrow enough nor perfect length enough for my feet like that "W" Gamba maker's did. That maker's pairs hugged my feet like a partner. I didn't even have to really break the shanks in.
I just did the math and this was basically filmed when she just had gotten pregnant I think, making the children reactions even more precious
