    You're the most intelligent technician / mechanic I've ever seen on CZcams regarding VVT on Volkswagen and Audi I had a similar problem with my cam adjuster valve it was sticking out and it gave me the runaround I have to do my timing chain six times before I finally was able to find the issue in the cam adjuster valve

    This is amazing info, thanks for the upload. I used to think that if we manually operate the solenoids with test probe at idle than the engine can crank....

    Chris, great webinar info. I’m a UPS pilot with a love of German cars and am a novice mechanic. I recently acquired a 2015 VW CC with 74k miles with the 2.0 TSI motor. Has random misfire codes and presented on day one a cranand camshaft position sensor fault. I bought it thinking oh, easy, change some sensors, or spark plugs and coil packs. Wrong. Learned about oil and carbon build up, media blasted, cleaned everything, serviced all injectors bench checked. New intake manifold and still have rough idle and rough running until about 3000 rpm. Then it all smooths out and it runs perfectly. I am guessing here that the one time the chain skipped a tooth and showed thr cam and crank codes. I reset them and replaced the sensors, probably they weren’t bad, and they don’t return as it only skipped one time. And no bent valves yet! So I either have screen failure and or chain skipped time. I checked my chain is only -.5 on stretch and being a 2015 it should have newer tensioner installed. Because car is running I’m thinking to just open top cam cover and remove cam tower bracket. What is your opinion of the Dorman bracket that has an updated stainless drilled and welded style screen that supposedly won’t ever fail. Or just use a VW one without a screen? And if I remove all screen bits, should I replace the solenoid valve that fits in the intake cam if any small metal particles get in there?

    • @AutologicTV
      @AutologicTV  Před 3 měsíci

      Remove the bridge and inspect the screen. If it’s there more than likely the cam is ok. Look for stretched chain or a failed tensioner

    Nice detailed video . Thank you . One question . Why do you think the cam bridge sometimes dose not want to slide in the cams . I mean looks like the cams are dissaligned significantlly . I am not talking a little bit . I am familiar you can move them slightlly and easilly push it in , BUT in my case cam bridge dose not want to go in at all . I tried another bridge but same. I tried with lossen chain - same . I think one the cams are bent . after seeing your video I thought the adjuster may be the isse because cam is hollow and may easilly bent at the point where most tension is where the ajuster is located . This happens when you wear out the aluminum lob of the cam bridge. Give me your opinion . After 10 years there are tons of things I struggle with I went too far and still oil pressure

    Hi I don’t own a Drive pro yet but eventually I will I do a lot of timing chain jobs on VAG cars and I mess up the first time doing a chain I forgot that I had the crank bolt and spacer off and I move the crank a bit and the timing gear set moved to the wrong notch and I had to reposition the gear at the proper place before installing the chains on I still don’t have the special fixture but now I make sure that I don’t any thing without the bolt and spacer installed before I put any cover back on I always check measure like you showed to make sure all is ok.

    Does anyone know how many degrees is full oil flow and how many degrees is full oil restriction? Got one in the shop thats asking for 28 but floats around -2 to -3 or so, seemingly erratic. I unplug the n205 solenoid and no change is observed on cam angle. Sound like a phaser lock or n205? 2.0 fsi. P0016 and I just did belt, chain, and respective tensioners on salvage yard engine.

  • @jmdesales

    The magnet is super easy to remove, the pin tends to gum up and not move freely. My 1.8 passat ran rough or stalled when cold. You get scary timing codes like you might need a timing belt. Flushed the magnet through the two small holes and pin with carb cleaner till the pin moved freely. Issue never came back. 1.4 vw have same magnet too.

    Hi, I have a CJSA 1.8tfsi engine in my A3, there is a small “tring” noise when starting to load the engine, then unload it( realese clutch) it goes “tring “ again, My Audi dealer are trying to put me off and say there’s nothing wrong with it 😡, at first the said it was the camshaft adjuster solenoid at back of head , nearest the timing chain end , if you put your hand in it you can actually feel it in time with the noise , they changed it and did not solve it . They are now trying to say that it’s a “characteristic “of that engine. I have heard another 6 of these engines and no noise . I have a years warranty left on my 2 year warranty . I bought the car from Audi , had a full service history from Audi . I think they are just trying to fob me off as they will not make any money on warranty work or they don’t know what the problem is . Can you please help with any ideas , I also have a video of the noise I can send so you can hear the noise . Many thanks again, Gordon
