    Does anyone have any maintenance tips? The previous owner changed the oil regularly and told me that he changed the coolant about five years ago. The transmission fluid has not been changed. It was always kept covered in a garage, was barely driven, and he kept meticulous care of it. It does not have the original battery. He kept it on a trickle charger. Yes, the car is 30 years old but it only has 15,000 miles on the odometer right now. I don’t know if I should take it to my local Dodge dealership and have them change any fluids or just leave it be. Any tips would be appreciated.

      I would definitely still service the transmission fluid and filter . Just a pan drop . Mopar synthetic fluid and filter . Cost a little more but worth it all I run in mine . I live on east coast of canada so I get mine yearly protected by krown even tho I don’t drive it in the winter

    • @regalgs51
      @regalgs51  Před 6 měsíci

      @JDns-we4fwThank you for these tips! It’s not my daily driver. I always keep it in my garage and I only drive it to work one day a week, which is only four miles each way. Funny thing, I never use the automatic climate control in any car I’ve owned. I just don’t like it. Strangely, I have to have air blowing on my face or upper body area when I’m driving. The automatic mode in every car I’ve had blows air onto the floor and I don’t like that unless my feet are freezing. Anyway, I’m concerned about fluids. The previous owner changed the oil regularly, and changed the coolant about five years ago. The transmission fluid has never been changed. I don’t know if I should take it to the dealership and have them check all fluids and flush and replace any that need it. I certainly don’t want any water pump or transmission issues. It only has 15,400 miles on it now.

    • @Jonathan-dq8hb
      @Jonathan-dq8hb Před 2 měsíci

      Transmission fluid and filter should be changed every 40,000 miles. Use only ATF+4 . Engine is a non interference design with a forged crank and deep skirted block. Very robust. Cam belt on ours ('96 New Yorker) broke at 82,000 miles , but not a big deal. Just replace it along with the water pump and tensioner and you're back on the road . Only big headache is the electronic HVAC control. When it goes out , you'll have to have it repaired. DO NOT send it to the guy in Van Nuys. He doesn't honor his "warranty " .

    • @Jonathan-dq8hb
      @Jonathan-dq8hb Před 2 měsíci

      Go ahead and check the transmission fluid level using instructions in the owners manual. These are nimble, great handling cars. Yours is beautiful ! Hang on to it , they're becoming rare. Take it to a car show.

    • @regalgs51
      @regalgs51  Před 2 měsíci

      @@Jonathan-dq8hb thank you for the advice. I took it to my local Dodge dealer and paid them about $165 to inspect the entire vehicle. They recommended that I replace the timing belt and fuel pump, only due to the passage of time and not because the inspection revealed any issues. Also, I pointed out to them that the engine was making sort of a strange whistling noise while idling, and they told me that it was the serpentine belt, which should be replaced. I decided to only have them replace the serpentine belt, which did cure the whistling noise. They did not find any issues with the vehicle, and so as of now, I don’t plan to have any other maintenance done to it or parts replaced.

    That's amazing! I loved those when they came out (and the 2-dr Dodge Stealth). They were so futuristic and unlike anything else at the time. The Taurus started the trend (in America) of cars that were no longer boxy; we had no other options at the time. But when the Stealth and Intrepid came out, it took that concept to the next level! You paid a great price for that jewel! Good luck with it. (BTW-I'm a 57 yr old mechanical engineer-make sure you keep all the fluids fresh and flowing-drive it at least once a week for a half hour.-it'll go a long way to having this for a long time).

    Two months ago I found a 1986 Pontiac Fiero SE V6. with only 15,000 original ,miles. Bought the car, for $6500.00 it's all original. Only thing is the older couple that owned it kept it outside most of its life. Had the original tires, but they were dry rot and flat. Put some cheap tires on it and started right up and drove it home. Put about 3K into it, new suspension, fuel injectors, plugs wires etc. my mechanic said it was all original under hood, distributor etc. Got a binder full of papers. Title was clean showing the low miles. Paint on outside is faded bad, but the inside is mint, not faded at all and everything inside works. The husband bought the car as a birthday present for his wife in 1986, but she felt it was too low to the ground and bought a new Chevy cavalier that year as her daily driver. They decided to keep the car and drove it once in a while. Only thing left for me to do is send it down to macco for paint. It runs and drives like a new car. Love your intreped, I'm 51 and remember when those came out. They were known as the cab forward design.

    Great car! I have been an LH junkie since I saw my first one mid 1992 (1993MY). I am a New Yorker/LHS guy. I had a 1994 NYer (Red Metallic) in '94 (I was 23 yo, btw). Had a brand new Spruce Green LHS the following year. A brand new Black Nyer in 1996. The green '95 was with an ex. Traded the red one for the green. Broke up with her. Bought the black one. Later on (1998), I bought a Black '97 Vision Tsi. Since all the new cars, I have had several more LH's. In 2001, I bought a Wildberry 1995 LHS. Had a new 2001 White 300M along with the wildberry 95 in 2001, too. A friend gave me her parents 1994 Emerald Green LHS since I inspired them to buy it. They bought a new White 2005 300C and didn't need the LHS anymore. All that said (sorry it was long winded), I would kill to find an LHS/Nyer with the miles your Intrepid has. Yours is fabulous! Keep it. Forever. And $9,000 is a steal imo. I've graduated to a newer Mercedes E-Class. But those days when I was in my 20's were some of the best and life was easy. All my loved ones were still alive. My son was a baby (10-1992). Had the rest of my life to look forward to. Thanks for posting!

      @@regalgs51 Personally, I would take it to a trusted Dodge dealer for an initial lookover... They will probably suggest some changes/flushes. If finances permit, do them. If you are going to use it a daily driver, follow the maintenance schedule in the owner's manual RELIGIOUSLY. I say that because of the car's age. When the car was new, you may have been able to let something go for a 1,000 or so miles. Keep an eye on the transmission. That was the only problem area I had out of mine. And mostly the 1994 and one of the 1995s. They made a little 'hum' when pulling away from a stop (cool or warmed up). The MOPAR mechanic said that was the 1st sign to watch for on the 3.5L before more serious problems began to present. Most people didn't pay attention to the hum but if they had, they may have saved some headache later on. Keep it waxed a couple times a year (based on your weather and how much sun it is exposed to). In addition to being an LH junkie, I was and am a clean car guy. I usually wash my car no less than weekly. Therefore, I waxed every other month. Most every LH car I've seen these days has some form of clearcoat peel/dead paint. Be diligent with the waxing. Oh, and on the Intrepid, wax the black trim piece on the C-pillar. They seem to fade out quickly. And WAX YOUR HEADLIGHTS. On cars that I bought new, I never had a problem with fading/yellowing because I kept the lenses waxed. I guess that goes for all cars across the board. Well, that is all I can think of off the top of my head. Keep in mind I am not a mechanic/technician. But i have certainly had experience with them over the years! If you have specific questions that I may be able to answer, feel free to message me. I'll do what I can. Again, congrats on an amazing find and purchase!

My first was a 93 and got 300000 kilometers on it and my second was a 1997 and had it just over a year and my wife got in an accident and totaled it. I prefer the 3.3l over the 3.5 I think it was a more reliable engine. I think out of the three the Concord, Eagle and the Intrepid I think the Intrepid is the nicest. DO THE TIMING BELT! And the water pump! Please. Don’t let it kill it’s self from that failure. 3.5 is a good performer at 212hp but weak link is the timing belt and water pump. Done one several times . My mom had the fully loaded model you have there same colur and wheels but it had a rear spoiler and the infinity sound system. And lighted visor mirrors. That square hole on the dash was for the tracton control button. I would push that for burn outs. It would shift all the way into3rd and still be spinning

    Beautiful car. My parents bought a used 1995 Intrepid base model in December of 1995. It was a former rental or program car had 32,000 miles. Of course it was my mom's daily and the main family car, so it was driven a lot. It became my car in 2004 when my mom got her 2001 Saturn L300. The Trep had 162,000 miles when I got it, and in 2013 I sold it with just over 300,000 miles still running strong. Unfortunately I found out it had been scrapped in 2017 when I ran a Carfax on it out of curiosity. If you plan on doing any real miles in this thing please put some new tires on it. I know they look like new, but 30-year-old rubber could come apart at any moment.

    Wow! You really lucked out in finding that beautiful Intrepid! I would be thrilled to find one like yours. I think the price you paid was actually low for this particular car. I would pay that in a minute for it, and you will see that it will only appreciate in the future. But who cares, it's not an investment, it's a toy! And a wonderful one at that. I also was captivated by all the LH platform cars when they came out, but particularly the Intrepid, and my very favorite one, the LHS of '94. When they first came out, I rented a brand new white LHS with gray leather interior for a long weekend and loved every minute of it. I still have a bunch of pictures that I took of it. I'd love to buy one in the same shape that yours is in! Good luck with your Intrepid and take good care of it!

    Very great! I was a designer of that car. Very good times. Rare times in car design caused by the collision of Chrysler leadership of Tom Gake, Bob Lutz and crew, and the AMC merger requiring the use of the Renault large sedan platform. We had a blast! This is such a beautiful car. I would love to touch base with you to learn how you like it's handling/performing, and if you have any ideas about where I could find one like this to buy for myself? How did you go about finding this? I remember growing up with my dad and he wanted one so bad! We went to test drive one together several times - I'm not really sure why he didn't ever buy one. I have great memories of looking at this car with my dad - he passed in 2022 so it makes me very nostalgic!

    • @regalgs51
      @regalgs51  Před 6 měsíci

      Hi there! I don’t have social media, so the only way I could contact you directly would be for you to post an email address or phone number on here. In terms of handling, it drives and handles just fine. I haven’t pushed any limits; I haven’t even floored it yet! I’m afraid of breaking something! Some day, I’ll floor it. Maybe when it’s warm out. The accelerator is touchy. You barely hit the gas and the front end lifts up. I’ve driven other first generation Intrepids and they are all that way. Takes some getting used to. Considering the fact that all parts, tires, everything (except the battery and the hood struts) are original, I’m surprised it drives and handles as good as it does. 1993 was the first year for the Dodge Intrepid, so they didn’t yet offer the variable power steering that debuted for 1994, which assisted in low speed steering maneuvers by adding boost, making the steering wheel easier to turn. It is a little hard to turn the steering wheel when driving at slow speeds, but that is normal. I found the car pretty randomly online. For a very long time, I was routinely searching on cars.com and simple Google searches for 1993-1997 (first body style) low mileage, clean Intrepids - which are almost impossible to find, as most people didn’t take care of them. One evening, I found this exact Intrepid via a Google search on a website I didn’t know existed: classiccars.com. There is a 1994 Chrysler Concorde on that website right now with under 2,000 miles!! They are asking $18,900! Anyway, I assumed it was an old post and the Intrepid had been sold, but to my surprise, it was still for sale by the original owner in Wisconsin. He was asking $10,000 OBO. I offered $8,000 and he said no. I later offered $9,000 and he said yes. Then I made the 6 hour drive to his house to look it over, and when I got there, it was in his large, heated pole barn with a cover over it. He took the cover off, and I was pretty well astonished to see that it was in virtually brand new condition and was essentially a time capsule. I purchased it, and the rest is history! I’m so happy he babied it as much as he did. And when I say he babied it, I mean it. He literally put two round felt pads on the back of the license plate to prevent any scratches on the paint behind the license plate, even though that is an area that no one will ever see! He also polished the exhaust pipes and muffler! I would like to know why your dad test drove various Intrepids but didn’t buy them. Maybe he wasn’t getting a good enough deal?
