Russia has mastered cold launch technology since the cold war, it is one of the few area's the united states at the time admitted it was behind in compared to the soviets.
most likely the missile will be ejected from the launcher using a half second rocket booster, or using pressurized gas. only after the missile is completely clear of the launcher the engine will fire.
in the case of some variants of this system. the back of the launcher sticks out of the back of the container when in launch position. so if it was a "hot" launched missile, the exhaust would be outside the container.

    • @LupusAries
      @LupusAries Před 4 lety +2

Actually, it does......even in defense you have to obey the LOAC.....you only have a Bit more leeway to Offset the attackers advantage.
For example you can Attack an Army massing at your borders in a preemptive strike, without a declaration of war.
But there must be a "clear and present danger" and you must use Military assets clearly operating under your own flag.
This system violates that as it masquerades as civillian right up to the Attack.
And both the nationality and the Military Nature of the Asset must be shown BEFORE the Attack.
Non-compliance with the LOAC can bring down the qrath of other countries upon you in egregious enpugh cases, you know Like chemical weapons.
Using this system in the way shown here would ammount to treachery and perfidity, it would be abusing the protections for civillians and private properties to make weapons of war immune to Attack.
It would also lead to more civillian casualities as the only defense a nation threatened by those Systems would have is to indiscriminately Attack every Ship, harbour, railyard, freight train, Container carrying Truck, and every single Truck Yard the enemy has.
It basically Forces total disregard for the protection of civillians and private property, and thereby the LOAC......which means a use being outlawed is guaranteed.
I wouldn't be surprised If possesion or development would be outlawed too.

    • @LupusAries

As for your civilian argument, even greater nonsense. Millions of guerilla fighters defended their land from invaders and occupants. According to your rubbish logic of an aggressor (nazis produced same excuses) they all broke this your LOAC BS. Big error wasting time getting around the strike zone, really think the enemy doesnt have eyes in the air too? drones? best strategy is a vertical launch, because there is no way to tell what the target is in reentry, and on it's way down: it's far too late to intercept because 1° angle can change everything! AS for the containers: it's a great logistic :) If your spy spot the stockage area, you take the whole defense system with 1 shot :) And when it is deployed: how many civilian transporters are going to be sunk by mistake and then you'll have to face a war crime trial?

the nazi submarines had this as their main role
way before that, in the ancient times, Roman or later medieval times cargo ships were legit warships during a conflict, equiped with cannons to fight
I see no reason why cargo ships cannot be used as launching platforms for cruise missiles nowdays
the US was also working on "modular" containers for the LCS class ships that got canceled, although there is no clear proof or advertising I find it very likely that the US probably had or still has plans to put loitering munitions or even tomahawks inside containers

Nothing worse than attacking peaceful countries that are much weaker than you. Those weapons are the equaliser.

respect only goes so far when your countries safety and independence are at stake, that is when the little kid gloves come off. sorry to say it but the only way to break the american populations moral and support is to show them they are not safe and cozy in their homes 6000 miles away from the chaos of war. you show them they can be touched and they will not support the government that put them in danger by reckless actions

What I fear is the americans will copy the Russians and start doing this many times to surprise the peaceful countries.

Hopefully our woke military can focus on the job and not what their pronouns or identities are long enough to defend our country.
