The only downside to him was just that he showed up so often later on and rarely did anything of note (and often got punked for it) so often that it just lead to diminishing returns to me and he started to feel more like a boring maniacal goon then someone who was supposed to be a threat. I used to want more of the lich as a kid, but now that I’ve seen it all, I honestly wish they held him back a bit more often and just let him cut loose whenever he did get to show up
Remember Billy's girlfriend? (not Canyon, the old lady wearing red) In Finn's dream she's shown in the Bear's mouth. And since she's never seen again after that it probably means the the Bear violently mauled her to death on the Lich's command. He could've used *Fall* on her and just killed her quickly, but no. He made sure that she had a needlessly cruel and painful demise. Now THAT'S Devious!!!!
I always wondered what happened to the bear, why he was serving the lich. It didn't seem like he was under any mind control...but what motive could he have had?? Only until now did I realize The bear might be a descendent of the giant flying bear billy fought in his hero days...but it's more than likely a coincidence
He's worse than the Joker cause the Joker wants peoples alive to recognize his madness. The Witch is a freaking magic terminator who wishes to exterminate alll life. How many people had suffer the fate of being esten and erased by Golb, due to the witch's actions?
Nah the Joker is far worse. The Lich just wants life to end. Joker wants to inflict as much suffering and corruption because it's funny to him. Imagine he shoots your daughter, sexually assaults her and bombards you with distorted truths, surreal imagery, and photos of your seemingly dying daughter naked and bleeding out. And he does all that "To prove a point." The Lich is nowhere near as petty, cruel, or sadistic as Joker. And then you have the Emperor Joker story when he got godlike power and managed to mind rape Batman so bad that it broke him. He BROKE BATMAN! And then there's the fact a version of him made The Batman who Laughs a multiverse level threat because he still had Batman's Plot Armor. If I had to huff the Liches breath, or deal with Joker for a day, Imma take a DEEP breath cause that would be a mercy.
Fun fact: The Lich hasn't been at full power the entire time, we've seen him. Don't forget, Finn stopped him from getting access to the well so he could have his full power.
When Finn and Jake confronted him he had his hands in the well getting his power back. also PB acted like the giant explosion meant he got his power back-I thought that was why the gauntlet was useless against him that time. so yeah idk if I’d say he was at “full power” but he was at least stronger than when billy defeated him :0

What really makes The Lich threatening for me personally is that he never let a defeat or a setback even slightly upset him. Like he said, Finn had this man by the eye sockets ripping his head off and Lich just laughed and then he spent months as a snail coercing some random bear, then spent weeks in Prismo's realm like a statue waiting for the right moment, and even THEN when he was turned into a baby he didn't give a damn, he still bought time and waited
I love the fact that he stayed in that room for that long even with that many people there, he could have killed them at any time but he doesn't want to kill 7 or 10 people, he wants to kill everything.
It can stop him, just not kill him. We literally see in Farm World that the Magic of the Crown(along with some safeguarding from Marcy) delayed the Lich from wreaking havoc for a Long Ass time. Plus he was trapped in Amber, Ice could be just as viable a prison in the right places in the world
Definitely bill Bill is a multiversal threat the lich was at most a planetary threat til he spread himself across all timelines but even then he can probably still be defeated in other timelines. Bill was such a threat that it took arguably the smartest man on the planet to outsmart him because they couldn’t beat him in an actual fight

I remember REWATCHING the episode where Princess Bubblegum was recovering from the Lich's well. The longer she spent on that bed listening to Jake, the more goosebumps I was forming up until she set the whole room on fire. Then Jake looking back to PB with green eyes & melting had me JUMP
If you're looking for another "Downright Devious" recommendation, I'd recommend The Big One, the Velociraptor from Jurassic Park. The way they hyped up the raptors in the movie you almost knew they were going to be a threat the moment they escaped their cage. She was introduced to a group of raptors and she straight up took control and killed all but two of the others. She coordinated with her subordinates to kill Muldoon and was hunting down children in the kitchens like a slasher villain. Were it not for Rexy showing up as a literal T-Rex ex machina, the raptors would've killed Alan and co.
What makes the Lich even scarier is the fact that he goes from different alternate realities destroying all things in those reality before moving onto the next one now there are versions of Finn in those realities and in some of them, Finn wins, but in some of them, the Lich, when he kills Finn and destroys everything and move on with the Lich himself, says you have bested me in many worlds child but I always return
He won in Fiona and Cake, Lich has emotions he laughed was happy when he made the wish he gets upseat and anoyed when it was changed. Him feeling sad that he won there was nothing to do glob didn't notice or care so he was stuck there doing nothing for years. All the cosmic things in adventrue time have emotions Death does
I remember having actual nightmares about this guy and telling myself “he’s not real he can’t hurt you” I would legit be crying in bed at night and my mom was no help at all
The Litch was one of the few characters I'd claim to be true evil. There is no grey area with him. There's no reasoning with him. No appealing to his better half. He just is exactly what his is: the end. And that's what makes him terrifying. Would that make him a euphemism to say he's the end of the adventure time story?

I love the Lich because he is unrelenting. He is a force of nature, like Finn, but isn’t overpowered. He can be defeated, but he will always return and I have found that a more chilling type of villain. Finn struggles against the Lich as well, even though he wins.
I love how after the lich was introduced, he was a constant presence and threat in the world/universe that can fuck up the world and existence itself at any time.
