    3:48 James May is known as “captain slow” by clarkson and Hammond, the fact that a random man in Uganda knows him as Captain Slow is a real testament to how popular the show was worldwide

      I'm not sure the guys accent was entirely Ugandan though. He did sound like he's spent a fair bit of time in the south of England.

      @@grizzlygamer8891 well I don’t know what a true Ugandan accent sounds like so I can’t comment. However in Syria the top gear team were way more popular than they expected to be so I’m not surprised if Ugandans know who they are (whether or not they’ve spent time in the U.K.)

    its meant to b the colours of the union jack. red white and blue. also, yes, yes the french helped you out "quite a bit". some might say, if it wasnt for france, you wouldnt have even had the guns to fight with. but our main war at that time was with france. the american independence war was more of a side war for us. the war with france was our main one.

      France were so excited sticking it to the British that they bankrolled the whole revolution and knowingly drove their own economy into the ground to do so. Of course the brave men who put their lives on the line deserve the foremost praise, but without France it probably wouldn't have happened. The Britons were quite good at stopping rebellions in the colonies.

    I love how just from watching clips for a few months, you've done the journey almost all Top Gear fans do. Liking Clarkson, then Hammond, then realising just how cool May is.

    You've GOT to check out FoodTribe with James May - he's usually making some weird 70's sandwich, and getting the crew (notably the youngest) to try them.

    I still think Clarkson is the funniest of the three but May is the most intelligent, he knows more about motors and technology than the other two combined.

      Even the grand tour isnt quite scratching the itch, either.
      Im not sure if it was the limitations of budget in the older episodes, might of made it more relatable? Made them work harder with the tools available? Im unsure.

    Supercars eat fuel, Clarksons GT40 did 3-4 mpg. They also did a gallon segment to see which supercar was the most efficient.

  • @waynec3563
    @waynec3563 Před rokem +8

    The miles per gallon they worked out is for UK gallons. 1 UK Gallon = 1.2 US Gallons, so that 9mpg is 7.5mpg in US units!

  • @claudespeed6810
    @claudespeed6810 Před rokem +1

    Mate, these cars drink fuel like an alcoholic out of a rehab. I have a modified tt rs and a Ferrari 328 GTB, if you take the tt rs on track and throw it around you'll barely achieve 3.5 mpg but on the flip side the tt is making 500 hp at the crank. Whilst the 328 is more economical at around 13-15 mpg on city/motorway.

    Hi Connor...most modern tanks get less than 1 mile per gallon...the M1 Abrams is rated at .6 miler per gallon, I believe. Some tanks that do not have turbine or turbo diesel engines could get more than 1 mile per gallon, but those are pretty few these days...again, I could be wrong. Armored vehicles are not normally rated for miles per gallon...they operate more along the lines of a gallons per hour calculation. I am not sure which episode this is from, but it seems like the boys are driving supercars or hypercars, so fuel mileages of 8 mpg or even 6 mpg would not be out of line...these are probably extremely high performance engines.
    Also...14:50 Hammond was supposed to be doing the Union Jack...the British flag...but he did the colors such that they looked like French flags...that clip is from the India special when the boys were assigned the mission of promoting British stuff to Indians.💯✌

  • @PiersDJackson
    @PiersDJackson Před rokem

    Connor, their calculations of fuel economy - mpg - are what's called "back of an envelope calculations" or "rubbery figures".... Clarkson is a Luddite, and had a measurement of how much fuel he just put into his Hyper-car (like a sports car on steroids) in metric litres, he then has to ask May how to calculate correctly against the miles the car's trip meter measured, the MPG (UK) the car did, so his 6.6 or whatever was more likely to be normally around 10 in regular usage, and it'd be similar for Hammond and May.

    Longitude is up and down because you can see a long way up. Latitude is like Lattice fries that are flat on you plate.
    While I'm here I might as well teach you about stalactites and stalagmites, too... The tights come down so your hand might go up. Not sure if you have 'tights' in the US or if you just call them all stockings. lol. They are basically leggings/tight trousers for ladies made out of the same material as stockings/nylons/etc. It works very well in the UK and was taught to me when I was 11 years old by a great geography teacher.

    How can you like the french, even the french don't like the french, and they didn't do you any favours going against us, it would have been a lot better if Britain stayed as the head of the country cos later on we would have given it to the people like other countries and then you would have had a fair and civilised society with all the best things the British have given to many other countries like a fair judicial system, a excellent transport network, free health care, which only people who don't understand it say it's no good, yet in America you pay more in tax for your system which costs around $4000 a year from each person compared to the British which is £3000, a year, and you still have to pay for health insurance on top, so I wouldn't be to pleased with the french they didn't do you any favours or any other countries come to think of it, and I'm not hating on anyone, but just look up what they did to Britain straight after the 2nd world war and then when they tried to stop us joining the European union in the 70s, it was only the french who said no, what more could a country do for another? And after millions of dead British and billions of pounds spent to free a people from the Nazis, how ungrateful can you be, and if it happened again we would still go and help them, thats the difference between the two types of people
