  • Today I’m flying Business Class on an Iberia A330. It’s an opportunity to try out the long haul hard product with the short haul soft product to see if Iberia Business Class is as bad as its reputation seems to be online.

I’ve just booked this exact flight as the start of a LHR-MAD-DOH-SIN return in August, so I appreciate having some insight before I travel. Always appreciate your balanced view, and despite perhaps needing a bit of TLC, the experience you had definitely didn’t seem as bad as some make out. 👍🏼

Thanks! Hope you have a great flight. At the very least it should be a much more comfortable flight than short haul business class usually is!

Yes, lucky enough to have flown on Concord twice. In 2000, shortly before the fatal crash in France. It was an amazing experience. You really felt the take off, the cabin walls were very warm to touch, and I saw the curvature of the earth fleetingly. 3 hrs and 5 mins to New York. Food and service exceptional as were the gifts. Everyone received a concord stationary pack by Smithson and on my 2nd flight I received a passport friendly travel wallet embossed with Concord which I still use. Tiny cabin really quite cramped and I think its amazing that nothing has superceded Concord. I knew it was heading for oblivion really as it was old and in a way the shocking crash sped up the demise of the plane, economically I believe it had to be 2/3rds full of full fare pax to break even. But nonetheless just a brilliant experience.
Back to reality, your food on Iberia club flight looked better than ive had recently on BA club Europe which seems to have been really downgraded this year.

That’s so interesting that the cabin walls would get warm! And I had no idea about the gifts. I wonder if something similar will ever become viable in the future.

SkyTrax doesn’t seem to agree with the general anglosaxon bashing. 14th best airline in 2023. Not a fancy but better than most American airlines

I did economy class on Iberia from LHR to Madrid last year. Don't remember seeing the flat bed seats, from memory it was the usual three seats with the middle one empty.

This was probably an Airbus A319 or A320 operated flight with the standard Euro business class.

That was the set up I had for the flight home (video of that one coming soon!). I’ll be heading to Madrid again next year and will definitely be aiming for a flight with the long haul set up again. Seems like they do at least one of their many LHR to MAD flights on a wide body per day

The hard product looks a bit dated on the A330. I think the A350 would have offered a more pleasant seat and cabin. The soft product looks pretty good in my opinion, certainty better than BA on this route. It is inexcusable that they run out of Cava though and didn't proactively offer you another drink. I'd be a bit wary of booking an IB longhaul flight on the A330 after watching this, but would fly European shorthaul for the novelty of a widebody on a 2.5hour flight.

Definitely worth it for the novelty. I do have an a350 long haul booked with Iberia for early next year so will be interesting to put them to the test on a longer flight. Hopefully they’ll be a bit better stocked on the Cava!

I fly from NYC to MAD ever second month and always prefer Iberia. The business cabin is surprisingly bland, but the seats are comfortable and the soft product is unquestionably the best on the route.
