Some of the attempts failed and some succeeded. Where it failed, don't assume it ends there. Learn what these events are during this past year.

I have a twenty two year old car and I have no smart devices in my home. I use Tor browser, and I use a VPN when not using Tor. I have loads of privacy plugins on my browsers. I treat my privacy as if it is actually worth something. No FB, Twitter, Instagram, or Tik Tok for me. It's amazing how little people think about their privacy these days.

How do you keep a 22 year old car running on an affordable budget? I've never been able to keep a car older than 14 years because it gets too expensive and inconvenient taking it to the shop every few weeks.
You know that a lot of websites just don't work with VPNs. What's the point if you have to keep switching it off? Also, the VPN provider can see what you're doing instead of your ISP.
I'm not trying to be pessimistic, but you sound like you live in a fantasy world.

@@sa3270 I bought the car from an elderly couple. The car had less than 71,000 miles on it. It's a big old grandpa car, parts are cheap and plentiful.

And you're trusting your browser, those plugins, the hardware it all runs on, the infrastructure it runs through, the VPN provider you use and the tor exit nodes you go through not to be eve's droppings, logging/storing or transmitting to others your communications/data. It's interesting how many privacy focussed people put trust in things they don't fully understand or cannot see.

Location will always be exact, with a phone, you phone service provider can not be disabled, unless you remove the sim card.

This week, my apt. sent a note that we would be thrilled with the new laundry room washers and company.
I looked up the company. Wow: Their website says the new technology will now take biometric info of us while in the the laundry room, including height, weight, body shape. The cameras will monitor our actions in the room. They also will kerp our name, etc.
Before this, we had a laundry card.
Are we supposed to be thrilled that whenever we do laundry that our biometrics are being recorded?

Since when is my own computer a "platform"? It will be a boost to Linux if they push this client side scanning on Microsoft and Apple.
Of course passkeys are a fake. That was obvious from who would be involved and was pushing it. Why not decentralized public key store where only the possessor of the private key can change it? Some form of ultra fast low fee blockchain could do this. Add DNS settings in IPFS with only possessor of private key able to change it and CAs go away.

It's used for corporations, you can turn it off, well, if you trust it is actually truly turned off when you do and cannot somehow be activated remotely via a backdoor.
Edit: alternatively, you could use something like a Raspberry Pi. Again, assuming no backdoors are in the ARM CPU and the other chips 🤷🏻‍♂️ I've used a Pi 5 as my main desktop since October for browsing and low resource intensive operations and it has stood up well. At the end, it's the choice of software installed and human error that will cause the biggest security and privacy risks

      @lyfandeth Před 4 měsíci +3

Educated guess: Your computer is set up to pull the time of day from the network it is connected to. Networks can each be configured to adjust for "local" time zone. They normally get the actual time by invisibly asking a Network Time Server (NTS) for the real time, in UTC or Zulu, and then adjusting for the location they are in.
That means there are 3 systems that could simply have the wrong time zone setting on them. You'd have to check your OS on your computer, and then if it is right, ask to contact the IT departments for the other two, to check their settings.
This should just be misconfiguration, not a sign of anything worrisome. (Besides poor network management.)
If your OS can be set to seek an NTS directly and use that, that's the easiest solution.
