- The province is planning on upping the speed limit on certain 400-series highways across Ontario.
Ontario’s transportation minister Prabmeet Sarkaria was in Hamilton on Wednesday to make the announcement, calling the move a “common-sense change” that will make life more convenient for Ontario drivers.
“Today I am pleased to announce that starting July 12th our government is raising the speed limit permanently from 100 km/h to 110 km/h on 10 additional sections of provincial highways in northern and southern Ontario,” Sarkaria said.
When will police enforce passing lane discipline?
Where I come from it’s illegal (India). I’d rather see cows and horses beside me rather than a car.
Raise a truck limit to 110 then they’ll be a difference trucks running at 105 still keeps everything slow they make it sound good but there’s no difference
Ha, I won’t go anywhere near 400 series highways anymore. Toronto is a cesspool.
Ill be sure to avoid these roads when people go 130km an hr on all season tires in a snowstorm.
We already have those limits and it's be proven no extra accidents!
Back in the 60's and early 70's the speed was 70 mph. That is about 110 kph. They lowered the speed due to energy crisis. Glad we got that problem solved.
110km/h is the norm west of y'all in the prairie provinces. 120km/h is the median for what most drivers do with 125-130km/h used to pass for those few moments when needed.
Does it increase in the speed for transport trucks or are they just a slower target 🎯.
No, they're already hard capped at 105 and they ain't changing that.
Speed limit should be suggested speed. 130+kph in the passing lane should be allowed with no penalty.
By default the highway limit on Ontario highways is the suggested speed limit because people go over speed limits or under them. Although I think 110 to 120 speed limit is reasonable.
@@nogreatreset8506lol so true!
Does anyone ever look at the speed limits on the Gardiner, QEW, 400, 401, and 404???
I go as fast as I comfortably can because around the corner are some selfish drivers sticking to 80 even when the limit is 100.
GTA drivers are not bothered by speed enforcement.
Since when does the government care if you get from point A to point B faster.
Interesting. My vehicle actually gets its best fuel efficiency at 85-105 kph.
Would be nice to have a speed limit higher than the current 90 kmh on four lane stretches of Highway 11/17.
Highway 6 south as well. (Linking 401 to 403) it is just 80!
Thats long overdue. The pot hole half engineered farce roads in the maritimes are 110.
I dont think this will get people home faster though, as we all know in Ontario the speed limit is really the limit plus 15kmh, and 75% of cars are going 120-130 anyways.
What i think it will do is make the slow pokes who cause crashes to go closer to the flow of traffic.
It’s good to go from 120kph to 130-135kph
I can comfortably drive 130-140kph when the weather is good and the flow of traffic is moving well. The speed limit should be a suggested limit, obviously no one with any logic will drive 110kph with a snow storm or heavy rain. I've driven as slow as 70kph with snow, everyone adjusted their speed limit. government needs to stop treating society like children. They want everyone acting like adults when its time to pay fines or taxes.
Most people go 120 to 130 at the fastest, although 110 to 120 speed limit is sufficient.
@@nogreatreset8506I love how people like this commenter just automatically entitle themselves to decide what is sufficient for everyone else on the planet
@@D33Lux 130 to 140 is too fast an increases your chances of an accident regardless of the weather, traffic flow or even if its just you on the highway. You should be pulled over. I went around 135 at a time or two and I should have been pulled over, I regret ever going that fast an if I do it again I deserve the outcome that comes my way.
SHould be 130 MINIMUM. 110 is still bicycle speed
I say 120 minimum. Although 110 ain't bad either in my opinion. The safest speed limit for highways is between 110 to 120 kilometers.
Yes, 120 is so common around the world on similar infrastructure.
What about 100 to become 120 in summer (good conditions)
401 has a 130 km/h sorted limit and there’s no problem there
We have a 110kph highway in NS. Definitely decreases travel time and hasn't caused any problems that I'm aware of
Wanna drive fast, eh?
Visit Poland: last time I was there average speed on major highways was 150 km/h.
On several occasions we were driving a van from Warsaw to Kielce 180 km/h for over one hour.
No-one bothers you, no accidents...
Try Germany no speed limits on some parts highway!
@@leecrumble3921 Auto Bahn, no speed limit.
@@leecrumble3921 We know, we know...
Absolutely insane.
That's because you have to be 18 before you get a learner's permit.
Meanwhile the rest of the world has their rural limits set to 140
Sounds scary when everyone is driving a monster truck nowadays.
110..hmmm Does that mean I have to slow down?
Well, that is reality as drivers actually drive faster than 100KPH now. By raising the speed limit to 110KPH now drivers will feel comfortable driving at 120KPH.
what a load of garbage! "this will help incorporate those speeding over the 100km limit into the legal fold!" The only way to manage the speeding limit is it enforse it!! Look as many European Countries, the tollerance is only 5km over the limit, this might be strict but it makes everything a lot safer when you consider speed differences of 20% between drivers on the same road herer in Canada. The stupidity of this country, you can do 120km on a 400 highway and the police do nothing!
YAH.......NO cops enforcing and dysfunction AL's driving.......Nice cocktail.
ONG.
Increase on all to 120 and get people where they want to be.
That should get the transport truck zombies back up to 130KM/H.
Speed cameras are so worthless. Dont get me wrong, it's worth it for corrupt pukes who want to control everything you do. Soon, you will be fined for bad thoughts.
But with these speed cameras, something really needs to be fixed with the "community zones". For instance, there is a huge difference between speeding near a school at 8 am and 2am.
Semi trucks will still constantly pass eachother doing 81 kph
Semis are forced by law to be governed to 105 km/h. The drivers have no control of their speed, do you really think they do that just to screw you over ? you can thank Kathleen Wynn for that.
Holy Moly...110 K . yikes !!!!
The average speed won't change. It'll just put Ontario with the rest of the world.
Best news in years!
How fast camels can travel ?
GREAT! But enforce it.
In Germany they don't have speeding limits.
Yes they do. You’ve clearly never been there.
I think it's only certain sections of the Auto Bahn where that's the case.
@@chrisfabre23 spot on!
At 100km/h it takes 60 minutes to travel 100km.
At 110km/h it takes 54 minutes to travel 100km.
You save six minutes for every 100km, and burn more fuel in the process. Is it worth it? That's up to you.
Well when I drive 16 hours from the east coast to Toronto for work, It is definitely worth it.
People speed anyways, accidents waiting to happen.
BUT MA GLOBAL WARMINS!!
May God truly help us elect wise leaders. This won't make peoples lives any better. Liberals can't leave soon enough.
Faster speeds will decrease fuel economy and the people will burn more gas giving the government more money and making people more poorer and the oil companies will get richer. Now you need to stop more often to buy gas and didn't save any time just burnt more hard earned cash 🤠😳
Faster speed does decrease fuel economy. The faster speed limit won't make a difference due to everyone drives 120kmh whether the limit is 100 or 110.
Lol
Great idea. As the world burns up from climate change, let's pump even more CO2 into the atmosphere faster so we can get to work an extra 3 minutes early every day.
Theoretically you get "there" faster. Realistically, the time doesn't change because everyone is still driving at around 120kmh. The only thing that changed was the number on the speed limit signs.
People speed over 20 kms anyways, so increasing the speed limits and spending money on updating the limit is a complete waste of taxpayers money!
