  • The province is planning on upping the speed limit on certain 400-series highways across Ontario.
Ontario’s transportation minister Prabmeet Sarkaria was in Hamilton on Wednesday to make the announcement, calling the move a “common-sense change” that will make life more convenient for Ontario drivers.
“Today I am pleased to announce that starting July 12th our government is raising the speed limit permanently from 100 km/h to 110 km/h on 10 additional sections of provincial highways in northern and southern Ontario,” Sarkaria said.

Raise a truck limit to 110 then they’ll be a difference trucks running at 105 still keeps everything slow they make it sound good but there’s no difference

110km/h is the norm west of y'all in the prairie provinces. 120km/h is the median for what most drivers do with 125-130km/h used to pass for those few moments when needed.

By default the highway limit on Ontario highways is the suggested speed limit because people go over speed limits or under them. Although I think 110 to 120 speed limit is reasonable.

I dont think this will get people home faster though, as we all know in Ontario the speed limit is really the limit plus 15kmh, and 75% of cars are going 120-130 anyways.
What i think it will do is make the slow pokes who cause crashes to go closer to the flow of traffic.

I can comfortably drive 130-140kph when the weather is good and the flow of traffic is moving well. The speed limit should be a suggested limit, obviously no one with any logic will drive 110kph with a snow storm or heavy rain. I've driven as slow as 70kph with snow, everyone adjusted their speed limit. government needs to stop treating society like children. They want everyone acting like adults when its time to pay fines or taxes.

what a load of garbage! "this will help incorporate those speeding over the 100km limit into the legal fold!" The only way to manage the speeding limit is it enforse it!! Look as many European Countries, the tollerance is only 5km over the limit, this might be strict but it makes everything a lot safer when you consider speed differences of 20% between drivers on the same road herer in Canada. The stupidity of this country, you can do 120km on a 400 highway and the police do nothing!

But with these speed cameras, something really needs to be fixed with the "community zones". For instance, there is a huge difference between speeding near a school at 8 am and 2am.
