  • The Ontario government says it will soon be raising the speed limit along certain stretches of provincial highways, including Highway 401 and Highway 403.
In a news release issued Wednesday, the province confirmed that starting this summer, the speed limit will be raised from 100 km/h to 110 km/h on 10 additional sections of provincial highways in both the southern and northern parts of Ontario.
While none of the sections are in the Greater Toronto Area, Hwy. 403 from Brantford to Hamilton and from Woodstock to Brantford are two areas that have been identified for a speed limit increase.

This is bad news for a survivable climate. At this higher speed, fossil fuel burning vehicles will burn much more fuel to travel the same distance. This will create even worse climate consequences and increase Earth's temperature even more. Last year was the hottest year in recorded history. Climate scientists were shocked at this increase. The forest fires this year will be even worse than last year. The increased CO2 from faster speeds will heat up the planet even more, not just for a few years, not for a few decades, but well into the next century. Increasing the speed limit is madness. That's just this climate scientists expert opinion. Sincerely, Calvin.

Seems so wrong to burn more fuel in these days, while destroying city designs, making life less tolerable, by creating 40 and 30 Kmph zones. "Planners" have it all backwards.... saying that due to the presence of schools and residences, we need to drop the speed limit, INSTEAD they should PLAN.... and say that a school, or more residences, or more intersections are not permitted on a road because of the speed limit of that road by city design . But doing nothing until there is only one option remaining is standard practice for "planners" who won't do the work to plan ahead.
