Lyrics
Escape, gotta get away
I need a break, gotta get away
I left my house this morning on my way to work
Some lady on the train spilled coffee on my shirt
And people started laughing like the whole thing was funny
I woulda went home except I need the money
'Cause times is hard, my boss is crazy
The guy that works with me he's so damn lazy
Sits around all day drinks coffee and tea
He expects all the work to be done by me
And sometimes I wonder what they hired me for
To operate computers or run to the store
And when I ask for a raise, they tell me be patient
I've been working three years without a damn vacation
Things could be better but they're gettin' worse
Until I got this job I never used to curse
Well, I've had it up to here with people treating me wrong
So why not tell the DJ to play my song
Escape, gotta get away
I need a break, gotta get away
I buy a lottery ticket every chance I get
And if I hit I got someplace my boss can kiss
My friends are backstabbing so I hang out alone
Think it's crazy on my job it's no better at home
My girl's half-mad, she drives me wild
All she ever cares about is rippin' the styles
She wants diamonds, furs, and now she wants kids
But what she needs is somewhere else to live
My psychiatrist tells me to give her more time
But one more second might blow my mind
The pressure's building up on me more and more
It's gotten so I'm doing things I've never done before
I need a break, y'all, I can't take this place
I feel locked up and I wanna escape
And I wanna escape, and I wanna escape, escape, escape, escape, escape, escape! escape, escape
So you wanna leave your job, but you need the funds
Take a sick day off and find another one
And if your girl or your man ain't treatin' you right
Just the same buncha headaches night after night
Don't go crazy trying to please somebody else
You don't owe them a thing but you owe it yourself
So do what you gotta in order to escape
Take it from me it's never too late
'Cause I'm breaking these chains I may never come back
Going to go out and give myself a rap attack
And if I like it a lot I'm going to make it a double
And if you stand in my way you're looking for trouble
There's only one way for me to have peace
And that's for me to go out and rock the beat, ha
So turn up the highs, boost up the bass
Come on everybody let's rock the place!
Gotta get away
Escape, gotta get away
I need a break
Gotta get away
Escape, gotta get away
I need a break, gotta get away - Hudba
Man it doesn't get any better than that jack.

They deserve more respect The Real rappers
For real!!!
1985 I was 20 yrs old, and the 80s was the best time of my life! you could really feel the music then. Rap was at its best.
Clinton Beck Hip Hop was at its best in 1988 to 1996, numerous classics dropped year after year in that age
@@forcedtohaveahandle No. The Best years were from 1979 to 1996.
I was only 13 in 85, but it's still some of the greatest times ever.
On fire, great beat, was jamming with that big boom box back in the day!!!
I was 6 years old when this came out.. First time I heard of whodini was in a rap compilation in 1989.. Which had friends on it.. Loved em ever since 1989
R.I.P. to John “Ecstasy” Fletcher another hip hop legend has fallen my father had the pleasure of meeting him along with Jalil Hutchins and Drew “Grandmaster Dee” back in the Disco Fever in the Bronx NY man 2020 has been a terrible year for people falling down to this madness he will greatly be missed thank you for all of your hard work and dedication to the rap game.
Rip
Ahh...the Fever...211st and Gunhill Rd....We thought it was the Black 54
Also RIP to the Kangol Kid, also on stage in this video.
When hip hop was good.
Rip Ecstasy, you of the best groups of all time period!!!!
I was at this concert when I was a kid. Brings back beautiful memories.
Cool!!!
In Baltimore for Fresh Fest I, I saw Fresh Fest I and II in Detroit!
@Mein Fegelein that was him. He was 12 years old and a back up dancer for Whodini on the 1984 Fresh Fest Tour
R.I.p Xtacy

One of the greatest rap groups ever! REST IN PEACE EC.
R.I.P. Ecstasy !!!!!! The best hip hop group that ever did it!!!!!!!! Stage performance mixed with breakdancing plus U.T.F.O. was popping back then. Damn i miss the 80's.
Whodini killed it with UTFO as backup dancers (Doctor ICE being Jalil’s younger brother & Kangol Kid). Fresh Fest was the first major multi-city Hip-Hop tour. R.I.P. Ecstacy
Rest in Peace....Ecstacy from Whodini will be missed!!!
My favorite by them!!!
2020 continues to keep kicking us in the collective nuts.
RIP Ecstasy, today 12/23/20 you passed, and the world minus another original OG.
in 1983, I came to America from Brazil as a young kid, but by the end of1984, barely knowing english, Whodini was my favorite rap I would listen to... 5 minutes to Funk is still one of my favorites....Escape is amazing, ;) that spitting coffee on my shirt line I still remember til this day! Would make me smile as a kid then
Love this so so much. Thank you
R.I.P. to Ecstasy, this one hits hard, when rap music didn't sample and that hard driving funky groove, this group still gets played in the ride and the cookouts , five minutes of funk is the ultimate floor mover.
It does hit hard! So not ready to let him go. 😥💔🙏
Ecstasy was too cool....That hat was a powerful statement !!!
This features a Fairlight CMI which is a digital sampler …
😂what are you talking about? Rap music has always sampled.
@@fmartinjr 5 minutes of funk is a original track with no sampling by Larry Smith.
I'm 61 and this is still my theme song!
R.I.P to John 'Ecstacy' Fletcher of the pioneering rap group, Whodini.

RIP to Ecstasy
Shout out to Larry Smith for the original production
Rest in peace 🙏🏽 Ecstasy🎤🎶
Need some rollerskates and whodini-- them 2 tones wheels on them skates and bucket list completed
Wow!!! This brings back so many awesome teenage memories. It's absolutely tragic how Whodini, and all of the other rappers from the late 70s and 80s, paved the way for the garbage that's being passed off as Hip-Hop today. These guys are LEGENDS and should never be forgotten!!! 🎼🎶🎵🎼🎵🎶🎵🎼🎵🎶🎵🎼🎶🎙🎤
Back when artists actually annunciate their words and pronounced them correctly.
I'm 25, I wish I was alive for these beautiful songs, I wish I got to experience them live
The songs Topic is on point. Jalil stated a list of problems that many ppl face everyday. What I adored is that Ecstasy provided an answer, a way out.
On another note, the curled bangs on the girl and the Jerry Lewis dance at the end, bought happy tears to my eyes! Come back 1984, we miss you!
Word she killed it, I wonder where she is now
So underrated. Whodini is responsible for the best hip hop ever recorded. They were on par with RunDMC. U got Jermaine Dupree and UTFO in the same mix. Amazing!
John Gold u rt bro
I saw them in concert with Run-DMC and Grandmother Flash in San Francisco Dec '84 or Jan '85.
They were jamming!!!
If Russell Simmons wasn't run brother lmao 😂😭🤣 that all you should do

This is my generation, when hip hop was real, really real, about real life and not negative but positive. Whodini, and Run DMC era.

What I would give to be back in the 80s. Especially the early 80s again. And being I live in Maryland, I want to say this was at the Baltimore Arena. Could be wrong about that.
l grew up as a child in the 80s and it was by far the most fun l had in my life
Nope......Baltimore Civic Center 😉
Yep, Baltimore Civic Center. Swatch Watch NYC Fresh Fest Tour 1984. I was there. What a show.

Love Whodini Forever and everyone that know me, no that. We are Whodini!
Wonder whatever happened to Tammy in the video :-)
Whodini to me was the Gap Band/Cameo Version of Hip Hop! Them brothers were street smooth in style. Had the songs that could be played on Urban R&B Stations in the US and Rock it over in Europe! R&B/Funk/ Jazzy/ NYC Hip Hop with that Dolby s Sympathizers European Sound!
Whodini the whole world needs escape from the corona 19 New Jersey Delaware in Philly!!!
Música para o baile de final de semana. ☺🤭
I just had to say R.I.P. to Ecstasy and Larry Smith whom contributed to work with Whodini as a producer. This song in my opinion was like an anthem to get away from all the madness, craziness, wildness and badness.
I need to escape the 2020 c-19 lockdown!
This is my childhood 🥺 and the video was filmed in my home town of Baltimore 😢
RIP King Ecstasy 👑
The O.S.T of my mid 80's score trips to Serenity ( there's only one guy in the world who can understand whot i mean !!!) 😅

RIP extasy damn 2020
One love
Rest In Power Ecstasy!
Yes, we know this is "real" hip hop, how it was better back in the day, etc.
How about we just enjoy the song?
It WAS better than the indecipherable gibberish like B.S. fronting as hip hop now. Don't be mad.
