    I do like how they chose to spotlight the more minor Hanna Barbera characters instead of the famous ones like the Flintstones, Jetsons, and Scooby. Gives it more of a charm to it and I also like how the show isn't just about Yogi's adventures in the hospital, there are multiple episodes that barely even have Yogi in it and they spotlight other characters like Doggie Daddy and Auggie Doggie

  • @thenerdbeast7375
    @thenerdbeast7375 Před 3 lety +161

    I honestly like the character change ups whether it be gender, personality or both. These characters are from a simpler time so they are simple characters, to the point that there are many that feel like they could fall into archetypes like "the tie wearing lazy protagonist" (such as OG Magilla, Hokey Wolf, etc.) or "the softspoken sidekick" (like OG Baba Looey or Hardy Har Har) as a few examples so by giving them new character traits it really makes things more dynamic and interesting.
    I feel that is what a good reboot should do, whether it be a show, movie or game; be faithful to the original but make some changes to open the door to new possibilities. In fact I feel like Jellystone might be the best, or at least my favorite, reboot to date.

    • @anonymousgoblin792
      @anonymousgoblin792 Před 3 lety +5

      I still feel like they did Jabberjaw dirty. Too big of a character change for me. Everything else is fine. Jabberjaw in Jellystone just feels nothing like the og one, and that’s fine for the most part. I wanted it to be different but it still needed to honor the original in some way, the new version just doesn’t do that at all.

    • @thenerdbeast7375
      @thenerdbeast7375 Před 3 lety +2

      @@anonymousgoblin792 That is true, I do like the new Jabber Jaw, but I feel the original had a strong enough personality for the new show too. It probably has to do with the original Jabber Jaw's shtick of being a friendly shark wouldn't work as well in this setting, same with Loopy de Loop. Overall I do think the new Jabber is an improvement.
      Still as pointed out by some critics, when was the last time these original Hanna Barbera characters were relevant? Sure they did air a lot on CN in the 90s, but those were reruns to help establish the network. Most of these shows finished production in the 60s and 70s followed with a few new series and spinoffs in the 80s and early 90s. It was time for some changes.

      @MrSandMan961 Před 2 lety

      @@Wubbalubbadubdub2 It's when a character is seemingly non-human in design but carries other noteworthy examples of black culture or representation in their design or speaking mannerisms. Just as an example, Garnet from Steven Universe is black coded because despite being a sentient gemstone producing a hard light construct. She's both designed to look like a black woman and is voiced by one (being voiced by black voice actors tends to be a common reason to say a non-human character is black coded). It's obvious the main inspiration for her design and mannerisms was black culture so she's black coded despite being non-human. Writing is complex and it's next to impossible to create a character devoid of any inspiration from anything so we use language like this to break down a character's core components.
      A character doesn't have to be just black coded they can be asian or hispanic coded too.

    I actually grew up with these characters in the 80s and continued to watch them all throughout the early 2000s. So its hard to see Top cat characters who each had individual episodes have such a big change. A logical solution would have been to introduce new characters. Like Oggy daddy's daughter from another wife where the original kid got old and moved out. In Top cat's case they could have shown that the original members moved out and TC made some new ones similar to them. Re-imagining characters is ok for some like Jabberjaw but only when you explore a dynamic that wasn't explored before like Booboo.
    Also, try to understand that this is a piece of history that the writers are using. Remagining of history will always annoy people, but if you change their gender or race, then you will annoy most people including those that made them and watched for decades.
    After all, this isn't a stage show where the crowd will accept everything because that is what is expected on a stage show.

    The fact that this show made me actually care about Boo-Boos self esteem and can use “doggie daddy” in a completely G rated subtext is amazing!
    And I don’t this fox character but she seems pretty rad. I originally thought this was going to be TTG with Hanna Barbera cut outs, but I was pleasantly surprised.
    And no over abundance of internet slang jokes! Only Gumball can do those justice 😒
    But yeah, good stuff. Wish more re-imaginings put as much effort into their comedy as this does

    I like what they have done with Top Cat and his gang. It is both quite refreshing to see a new look on them. It dont matter if two character were gender swapped. It has not stopped the characters from being who they are.
    Plus, that scene where ChooChoo sees the "anime pillow cat"...LOL

    Im all for different interpretations of media and different ways the same story could be told. So im glad the characters are their own thing and not carbon copies of the shows before, in design, gender, and writing.

    I think the original Yogi Bear was kind of a Ned Flanders and the new one is more of a Homer Simpson. And making the Banana Splits an inept criminal gang was a great idea, although I would love to see them playing music again.

    I love Jellystone. It has a simple humor that will grab you on first viewing.
    Personally, the gender change of certain characters didn't bother me. It had to be done. Among the HB animals, 90% were male.
    For the future I'd like to see guys like: the Knights of Arabia, the Impossibles and even some of the Wacky Races (Dick and Muttley are to be excluded).

    This show reminds me of the Looney Tunes show, I just like a slice of life shows with good comedy. I wish people would stop overreacting to reboots and give them a chance. There is only a hand full of reboots that are actually bad (Powerpuff Girls), most of them are cool or funny like Rise of the TMNT, Teen Titans Go! and Ducktales

    Also let's not forget, those Hannah Barbara cartoons where more often than not just complete shit. They where cheap and where by enlarge not funny. And yes that does include Scooby-Doo. This Jelly Stone is so much better than those other shows.
