- Welcome to the World Athletics Watch Party, join the conversation on Twitter with our hashtag #WatchWorldAthletics.
Salwa Eid Naser unleashed a performance which rocked the athletics world by striking gold with the third-fastest 400m time in history.
Competing in front of a passionate crowd inside the Khalifa International Stadium, the diminutive Bahraini dominated from the outset to stop the clock in a dazzling time of 48.14 - the fastest time in the world for 34 years.
The pre-event favourite and Olympic champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo tried to close down Naser, who held a gargantuan lead heading into the home straight, but could not come within striking distance. The Bahamian herself climbed to sixth on the world all-time list with an NACAC area record time of 48.37.

Naser is a beautiful runner, so smooth. And coming to the finish line, not even sweating! Miller wasn’t distracted, she’s a champion. She just got beat! What a champion.
But Naser hasn't the optimal physique to do this. Only a tall, lean and powefull women could run so fast (like Miller Uibo is).
I really have doubt in Naser that season/race.
She just got beat by a doper 🤷🏾♂️
@@Leonidas-eu9bb Incorrect. Most of the women who have run faster then Miller Uibo are/were shorter and stockier than her. And this is the 400m so it's a little less about pure speed and more about holding speed and re-accelerating the most efficiently that will produce success. Of course pure speed helps but it must be used properly to be effective or you end up looking like Tyson Gay when he ran a 44 sec 400m back in the day (started faster than anyone else in a 400m ever then faded badly the last 80m but held on for the win and a new PB).
@@gmaxsfoodfitness3035 lol re-accelerating.. that doesn't happen.
It's all about max speed. Nothing else matters. running asub 20 200 also means you could run 44.0 400.
@@Leonidas-eu9bb Naser . Controversial 2 - year suspension !! Shame to the Athletics Integrity Unit !!!!! Banned until February 2023.
This is just crazy Miller Uibo ran a PB and 48.34 is crazy fast in any other race. This kind of reminds me when Tyson Gay ran 9.71 only to be overshadowed by Bolt

Shericka is currently the MVP of the Jamaican athletic team.
The shortest lady on the track has the longest stride on the track. She is amazing. Won it at the 200m mark.
No, SMU's stride is definitely longer.
@@RKRKRK78 In pure length, yes. But inch for inch relative to body size and leg length, the shortest person's is the longest. You can't argue with the results.
@@MrLewis-lk8us it doesnt make any sense that you talk about her body size when you measure stride length in relation to body size...

@@MrLewis-lk8us it's not only bout stride. There is leg turnover n foot strike. Nasser's leg turnover is higher n she has a very fast footstrike.
She won. N plz, stride length isn't measured in comparison to a person's height!
Personally I feel Miller Uibo would not have ran such a fast time had she not seen the gap Naser had given her and had to accelerate to close the gap.
Another newcomer to the sport of track and field I see.
No shit Sherlock lol
@Joyce Williams , ease up off the crystal meth .
From her looks, Miller still had the strength but I think she miscalculated. She thought Naser would gas out within the last 50m or so.

Watching this again and I'm still stunned by Naser, especially her technique and run ing style. It's so beautiful and smooth to watch.

I remember watching it, I Knew it would be fast cause both had broken 49 seconds in the past but I never though they were capable of that. My jaw hit the floor when i saw the time.
I don't think Naser had broken 49 before this race which made it so unreal
When was this run?
@@colleenposadas8415 October 2019
Hopefully, u have picked up your jaw on the floor that u dropped
Naser had NOT run under 49 prior to this race
That *so-called* world record from 36 years ago *may* never be beaten: these athletes today are the absolute highest performing athletes in their field and yet after all these years of improvements in diet, equipment, training techniques and schedules, they're still not making a dent in the un-credible time set back in '85. Notice how the commentator is making a point of NOT naming the *so-called* world record holder and he used the term *the modern era* to distinguish it from the complete mess of the 1980s.
There are a lot of factors that go into running the perfect race. Marita Koch may have been cheating, but no matter what substances your taking you've still got to go out and race. Marita Koch would have run an incredibly quick time in the race in which she broke the World record regardless.
Nasser will break it when she comes back
Completely agree. I despise records like Koch’s and Kratochvílová’s that are still *technically* the world record. The early to mid 80s records are such a farce and it upsets me to no end that the records haven’t been reset. I think 1988 would be a good year, since that’s the year random mandatory drug testing was introduced
On an even less positive note, I’m very suspicious about Naser’s time. An improvement of 0.94 seconds in a single year? Followed by a 2 year ban for missing three whereabouts drug tests? It’s very suspicious and extremely saddening because Naser seemingly had so much potential
@@silvesta5027 yes she missed 4 consecutive out of competition mandatory drug tests, 3 prior to 2019 doha world championships and 1 after.

Shaunae actually won and Sherika second. Naser was cheating. Unfortunately unlike Ben Johnson, they didn't take her gold medal away. However she was banned from the sport through early 2023. Obviously Shaunae smoked the field in the 2022 indoor championships and is the true champ!
Ms "bronze" won 57 consecutive 100m races. So Y disparage an athlete who in her category is more accomplished than U r in yours?!
@@JACKDAWFISH so where do U get that she cheated? She was banned for a period of time because she ' missed' 4 consecutive drug tests n the bureaucrats didn't accept her "reasons". O btw, only the Best are accused of cheating!
I generally enjoy the 400m more than the 100m. Watching, I mean. Running would be another story.
I lack the words to describe the ecstasy a runner feels when they experience their second and third winds. The runners high. That feeling has got to outweigh the pain that comes after. It takes a lot of training, dedication, and experience to be able to continue to produce fast times. That's where Salwa excels. She knows her body and what it can do.
I believe Miller-Uibo also knows this, that's why she trains for the sprint to the finish. This makes her the fastest runner, but the question is can she run at pace over the full 400 meters. I don't believe she can, because she has a tendency to tighten up near the end of her races.
Nasa is amazing
I'm retired. I drive the 400m these days.
800 and 1600 are the most painful races, 400 I think is the most painful after the finish, but it's over quick....distance races like 10k are painful but your body reaches an equilibrium and it becomes meditative. Those middle distances are just pure lactic acid hell, lol
@@proverbalizer 800 most painful. It is always an all out race no matter if it's diamond league or the olympic final. The mile can sometimes be a sit and kick (like what happened in the Rio 1500m). The 400 is bad but the pain usually kicks in in the final hundred. The entire second lap of the 800 is basically hell.
Naser bad ass, watch out for Sherika Jackson!! She had lane 2 and medal that’s awesome!

@@silvesta5027 no she missed 4 consecutive mandatory out of competition drug tests. 3 prior to 2019 doha world championships, and 1 after. the rule is you are allowed to miss 2 consecutive drug tests in the span of 18 months, once you missed the 3rd drug test, then you are banned for 2 years. missing 3 consecutive drug tests was bad enough, but to miss 4 of them is unforgiveable.
